November - RIP Eva Kipler

We lost one of our own this week.  Normally I don't try and censor, and probably never will again.  All I ask is that you be respectful when talking about Eva, and to each other when discussing her. We all deal with loss in our own way.

I will not delete or remove posts that don't follow what I've asked.  I just hope that you can show her the respect that she deserves.

RIP Eva Kipler.

I just wondered why she wasn't at GP.

She was fired along with a bunch of them months ago.

Well that sucks, I don't like shopping at Gingerscraps

Designers - If your store is on sale 30% off and you give out a bonus coupon for 30% off, that does NOT EQUAL 60% OFF! Just like if your store was 50% off and you gave a coupon for an additional 50% off, it would NOT BE FREE.

This is not complicated math...

Anonymous said...

You might be surprised by how annoying coupons can be. Depends on how the sale is set up whether they work in addition to or instead of the sale price. So the designer might have intended 60% but it didn't get set up the right way.

Anonymous said...

I've spent 17.00 in money between Thursday and today. Plus I had a 5.00 gift certificate I also spent, and a coupon for 2.00--so 24.00 altogether. I bought some really nice things from designers I don't usually buy from but they had some terrific sales.

Anonymous said...

I'm getting ready to continue my DSD shopping.Planning on spending $100. I won a few coupons, lost others while trying to checkout but I'm happy with what I got so far.
I'm also going to shop at Vinnie Pierce. She sounds familiar. I knew her a long time ago ( I don't remember from which shop) but then I lost her. I found her personal shop through The Digi Files yesterday.

I've spent about $35 on some basics for the year.

It is frustrating that a store had better sales Thursday and Friday than they are having today on actual DSD. Scrapflower lost a customer over that one. I didn't know of them until today and probably would have purchased something had I not seen that their biggest discount was on Thursday.

Anonymous said...

I've spent about fifty dollars and have gotten some spectacular deals.

Anonymous said...

Scrap Flower didn't go with the flow. I guess they tried to grab early shoppers. I shopped there on Thursday. Got a few things I didn't plan to buy but I couldn't resist the 40% sale.

Maybe shops aren't having good sales because of the 30% sales they are offering.
40-50% is a sale on one can resist.

Anonymous said...

Which designers have you purchased from?

Anonymous said...

At Scrap Flower?
Creashens, honey designs, just jaimee, Rachel B, Lisa sisnero

Anonymous said...

Anywhere. I've never heard of Scrap Flower. I'm not sure I want to say who I've bought from. I would hate for them to get smacked just because I mentioned them.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure it's all the usual suspects, anyway.

Anonymous said...

Probably not. I don't buy from many of the major stores at all. I think most are overpriced for what you get compared to smaller stores. Another reason I'm not posting them.

Anonymous said...

But some of us are stuck in a rut with the overpriced bigger stores. Help a scrapper out! (I know, it's a smack blog but I'm coming up empty at DST.)

Anonymous said...

Seriously. So bored with what I've found.

Anonymous said...

How can you guys not find stuff to buy? I don't have enough money to buy everything I want. I'm trying to buy my most wanted stuff for now and leave out so many and trust me I have lots of digi supplies.

I've spent $40. In the past years, I've been broke and spent $0, so I'm spending more this year. I only shopped at SO. There's a few other things I might want, but I'm at my limit so I'll get them later. I'm not finding 100's of dollars worth of stuff to buy either. Most of what I got is kits I need to do Christmas calendars.

Anonymous said...

I've shopped at SO, GS, SM, and TLP. I got some great deals and I've really enjoyed the fb/blog hops at all those stores except SM (did they have one? I didn't even check). GingerScraps always has dollar deals the first of the month, so there were some great deals there, and I got extra coupons for some TLP designers (I hate that their store sale is only 30% off).
Oh, I also picked up the ScrapStacks Pack and MSA's new program.

Today so far I shopped from:
Scrap Matters won a coupon
Jenn Barrette won a coupon
Scrapbook Bytes won a coupon
Digital Design Essentials won a coupon
The Lily Pad won a coupon
Brit-tish designs 30%

And tomorrow I plan to shop from After Five my last items on the wishlist
Gingerscraps $1 deals
Shabby Miss Jenn 50%
Scrap Stacks $5 Deal
The Digi Chick 40%
if I have money left I'll stop by Scrap Orchard and Sweet Shoppe.

I just discovered a kit that the price went up. It's a kit from Etc. by Danyale at the Digichick. I had it saved as a preview with the price at $6.00 and now it's $6.50.
I remember we talked about this a few days ago.

Anonymous said...

Etc. by Danyale raised all her prices slowly over a matter of months. How long have you had that preview?

Anonymous said...

If you ask me, which of course, you won't, unless you actually make a boatload of money at digiscrapping and you licensed your online business, and trademarked your name along with copyrighting your product, then you really don't stand a chance at actually being able to file a viable and valid lawsuit against another human being because of a so called name infringement. These frivolous lawsuits could go on forever, and it honestly isn't worth the time and effort and wasted money. Lawyers for either party would bring up questions such as business licenses, proper tax information, and more. And honestly, how many out there actually have their shoppe registered in their state, how many file the proper tax forms and pay taxes on those so called thousands of dollars they earn monthly? I'm sure not many do. I seriously don't know why everyone keeps rehashing the BG crap because it sure isn't smackworthy material, it's old news, mistakes were possibly made, who knows and who cares, bottom line is the little guy changed things enough to where they can't be confused with the oh so lovely BG team, gave a home to displaced ladies of the Charly saga, and they moved on, why can't we? So, anyone got any good sales to share? I hear that pisses the blog owner off and is classified as advertising, lol Censorship, on a smack blog, who would have thunk it.

So, I would really like to know the answer to this question. Why don't digital scrappers, who are not designers, make their own papers, elements, alphas, etc? Most who post here claim to know what kits have good quality, great color choices, etc. There are alot of CT folks out there that have better skills than most designers. So why not save yourself the money and time. Do it yourself and then you will love everything in your stash. And the customer service will be excellent!

-----------------

Hi Ginger long time no see. Please do us a favor and zip it.

Anonymous said...

#48 - How is it saving time to make your own papers and elements over the time it takes to buy and download a kit?

I'm a CTM and a retired designer and I still bought over $100 in supplies this weekend. Why?

Say I can make 5 papers and 10 elements in an hour. That's enough for a page or two. Lets round UP and say 2 pages.

In that same hour I can download at least 20 kits. Lets also assume I'll only make 2 pages with each kit.

Lets say it takes me a hour to make those 2 pages.

So, in 2 hours, I can make my own papers and elements and 2 pages. OR I can download 20 kits allowing me to make 2 pages plus 38 more.

In order to make 38 more pages, I'd need to spend another 19 hours scrapping with the kits I purchased or I can spend 57 hours making more papers and elements to scrap with along with making those 38 pages.

Sorry, the time aspect of your statement is false.

Save money? Maybe, but you could get a job working 5-10 hours/MONTH to make enough money to pay for those kits and STILL have a surplus of 28-33 hours over making your own kits.

I'm not saying you need to get a job to pay for scrapping, but if you're complaining about the cost of supplies, you can see how easily you can pay for them with less time and effort than making them yourself.

Anonymous said...

48. I have an answer to that. I get bogged down. By that I mean, I might be scrapping away and have to stop to make a flower that isn't made of silk. Then I sort of lose my mojo or my concentration. Or both. A lot of times I want to make something more intricate and I end up having to reboot my computer because of all the large open files.

If you think about it, writing and scrapping are solitary endeavors. It's nice to get out into a community (because my real life friends do not understand at all!) and read what other people have to say about what they're doing or whatever. I figure the money I spend on kits pays for 1. learning more about Photoshop as I try to fix, recolor or rebuild items to suit me, and 2. the social "dues to the club" and 3. the color palette. The rest I find on Google images.

Anonymous said...

#50, How long did it take you to download that $100.00 worth of product, including shopping for them, adding them to your wish list or cart, checking out, downloading them, unzipping them, organizing them, then actually scrapping with them? I think on a page by page basis, the time would be substantially less for you to take a photo, decide on a color scheme and theme, and then make your elements as you scrap your page. How is that more time consuming? Who says you have to design all of your elements before you sit down to actually scrap a page? Why would you do that anyway?

Anonymous said...

I've spent about $40 so far, much less than last year. I'm not done but I'd imagine I'll only spend another $20-30 if that. The sale prices don't seem to be as good this year.

Anonymous said...

#43, You don't have to have anything registered for it to be protected. Trademark and copyright laws state that outright.

It's true it isn't the most important thing and that's why a lot of this is handled outside of court with a cease and desist order.

I don't understand why anyone would think that the 2nd bella gypsy site had a right to keep that name. I mean what if we had another Scrap Orchard? In this industry orginality is very important. Do your research if you are new because that's what a real business person woul have done.

Anonymous said...

I have some cu flowers in my stash that I can quickly recolor if I need more to add to a layout. But there is no way that I'm making my own stuff. Kits aren't that expensive. And I don't enjoy scrapping at that level.

I felt like there wasn't anything worth buying last year. This year, I made up for spending only $15 last year. I think I was uninspired because I was bored with my stash too.

Am I the only one who feels like if a designer gives you a coupon for a $$ amount that you should spend a couple of bucks? I feel obligated.

Anonymous said...

I have the same feeling right now. I won a coupon from a designer last night and I bought a kit I had on my wishlist. I only paid an extra $0.89.
I want to buy something today but I don't like anything else. I do feel obligated because I didn't get the coupon on time and she sent me a coupon in a pm. I'll definately buy something today and in the future.

Anonymous said...

#62, speaking as a designer, I don't think anyone wants you to feel "obligated," but I would say most designers appreciate a customer like you. Most people take their $$ coupon they got, use it for as much as they can get for free, and then walk away. It's very nice that you support the designer's business by spending a few dollars beyond the coupon you got.

Anonymous said...

Oh, yes, I always feel obligated, too. So much so that I am very, very careful whose coupons I go after on FB or in the forums, to make sure there is enough in the store that I can go over the coupon amount. I usually buy a secondary kit or add on, but in the rare cases that paypal is dry, I actually apologize in the comments section of the order. Catholic guilt. Oh, and about half the time, the thing I add on is an afterthought and it's something I already had, so a total waste. I prefer store coupons!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I'm a designer now, but as a scrapper I felt that way too. I feel like they were generous enough to share without expectation ($2 free vs $2off5 or something) so I try to find something else I like.

Anonymous said...

I don't feel obligated, but if I get a coupon for $3 off I always spend something in their store if I can find something I like, otherwise I just don't use the coupon.

I do the same if I get a drink free at the bar. I give the bartender the money I would've spent on the drink as their tip. In the end I'm still saving money because I would have had to pay for the drink in addition to tipping the bartender. This way they get a good tip, and I get good drinks.

Anonymous said...

62-I got a 2.00 coupon yesterday, but bought a product that was 4.00 (on sale). There were things there cheaper, but like you, I felt I should give the designer something for her trouble. Besides that, I loved the kit I bought better than the cheaper products.

Speaking of PBP, I purchased a few kits from one of their designers yesterday and got an email from her right afterward telling me that I already had those kits (yes I am an airhead). She also sent a coupon for the amount I had spent so I could go back in and purchase something new. There's a first. Impressed

Anonymous said...

#77 - which designer? That was a very nice thing to do.

Anonymous said...

I've done that before. I had someone purchase the same kit from me 4 times. She really liked it.

Anonymous said...

I just realised that I bought something I already have. I sent a message to the designer hoping she'll give me a coupon or something like that. It's hard to keep track of hundreds of digi files.

Anonymous said...

I have to say it. The most generous designer out there is Gina Miller. She was giving away $25 coupons like crazy. I think her total value in coupons was $500.
I was one of the lucky ones who got a coupon.

Anonymous said...

It's not that hard. Just make a list in Word or something and every time you buy a new kit, enter it on the list. Then you can check the list before you buy anything.

Anonymous said...

I keep a folder for each designer. I check that folder before I buy anything from them. It takes 1 minute to check and even less to file it there... it's not hard, people.

Anonymous said...

$83 Not as simple as it sounds especially if you have 2TB of digi supplies.

Anonymous said...

Oh No... I lost the Vinnie Pearce sale.

Anonymous said...

85 - I have almost that myself and if you think making a folder for a designer and putting their stuff inside of it is hard, I wonder how you're able to turn your computer on at all... let alone dress yourself or breathe. Remember, it's inhale, then exhale.

Anonymous said...

85-or more.

Anonymous said...

#84 Do you also like repetitive, look-alike kits with lots of jaggies? Because if it's who I think it is, that's what you'll get along with "that kind of customer service." Customer service is only half the equation. Designers have to make good quality products first and foremost.

Anonymous said...

52 -
I believe she said downloading 20 kits would take an hour. It's really time consuming to click on a couple of buttons to put something in a wishlist from a store newsletter. However does one find the time to click twice?

As for organizing them, drop them into a folder named... wait for it... the designer's name. It's amazing the computer can actually sort them alphabetically, too, making it take seconds to locate it and drop the new kit inside.

If you honestly think it takes 30+ hours a month to shop, download, and organize products, you really need a better system.

Perhaps you and #85 can knock your heads together to get your handful of remaining brain cells to work again.

Anonymous said...

How few kits and/or customers does a designer have if she remembers who ordered what as soon as she sees an invoice?

I recognize my regular customers for sure, but to know what each one has in their stash already? There is no way I could remember that.

I don't think of that as great customer service. I think it just sounds sad.

Anonymous said...

91-
I thought the same thing when I read that. A designer who knows the customer and everything she's ever ordered? Does she have 2 customers?

I'd almost feel stalkish to email a customer like that and if a designer ever emailed me like that, I'd wonder why she's tracking everything I buy so closely...

Anonymous said...

90-Some of us have slower internet service than others, so it takes time to download the kits.

Anonymous said...

#87 I'm guessing you only shop from 3-4 designers so that would be so easy for you.

#90 I recognise that smartass attitude, I'm sure you comment here often. You're such a know it all. I'm guessing you probably don't shop at all.
Well for your information I spent $200 today and it took me all day.I browsed through the shops, checked my wishlists, looked out for coupons, bought the stuff I wanted, downloaded them, saved and sorted previews into files, kept files of orders writen down for credit card check with my bank, unzipped everything, renamed the folders, saved layouts for inspiration in the future.

For both smartasses I do a windows search in my digital orders file and I find everything I want if I have them organized. The last few months I didn't have time to organize all my orders yet so when I searched the product didn't come up.

Anonymous said...

94-I'm #90. Just so you know, I spent about 80.00 today, 60 yesterday, and about 50 on Friday and 45 on Thursday if you have to know so obviously you don't know what you are talking about. It will probably take me most of the week to get it downloaded. But I'm working on it. I'm glad you are so organized. I have my own system after I get it downloaded. It's quite similar to yours. Also, I have commented here before, but sorry, I don't qualify as often.

I'm just reading the comments about the Digi Files for this month. I have no clue what kind of customers you are where you think this month is terrible, but I love this months contributions!
Cindy Schneider - Always loved her templates and this time is no exception!
Dawn by Design - I love those colors.. it's a refreshing change to all the fallish colours that are oversaturating the market this time of year! Her kit is versatile and I appreciate that!
Amber Shaw - Very nice alternative to a thanksgiving theme - you can see she is trying to keep the fall feel with family. I think it's a nice kit with lot's of variety!
Mye de Leon - Who doesn't like this kit - the colors are nice and vibrant and there is a nice mix of elements that make it easy to scrap with! I don't zoom in immediately to study any tiny quality issues - I really don't see anything wrong - but I didn't really check actively either.
Sausan Designs - She is new to me - I like mixed media fun stuff like that - I haven't gotten a chance to play yet, but it looks fun!
Scotty Girl Designs - She is new to me too. I think her kit is simple and pretty for those who appreciate minimalist type kits like that. Nothing wrong with it!
Just Jaimee - holy - this kit is way bigger than the preview showed? There are a whole set of alpha stamps (which were really cool) and journal cards and other brush kind of stuff. I personally like the colors.

#114 I agree with you. It's all about being organized.
But the trolls always try to find something wrong with everything commented here.

Anonymous said...

115-I agree with you. I think the files are great this month.

Anonymous said...

Amen, #114. I like your way of thinking and working.

114: Maybe a designer who knows what their customer bought isnt sad or pathetic, but organized. I keep track of my sales on a spreadsheet. I can tell you who bought which products and when with a quick cross reference. I can also tell you which products sell the most and by what margin. Its called treating your business like a business.
---
Having a spreadsheet is a great idea. If a designer wants to know what's selling, then you can easily find out using a spreadsheet. (Or it's good if you want to know what's not selling--so you don't waste your time making more of the same.) Lots of businesses keep track if you've ever used a credit card at Target or Walmart, then your purchases have been cataloged.) Plus, for tax purposes it's a great idea to catalog your sales. (Or to make sure they add up to what the store owner says they should be.)
Anyway, I bet the designer who sent the email to the OPer probably figured it was better to email/give her a coupon than to have that customer pissed about buying a duplicate purchase. What's that saying? The best defense is a good offense?

Anonymous said...

What happened to the store list and abbr. on the side?

Anonymous said...

#120- I wonder if it was removed because several of the stores, etc. no longer exist.

Anonymous said...

Now that DSD is winding down and you have had a chance to open your purchases, I am wondering if there were any new (or old) designers' product whose quality was subpar?

Anonymous said...

--------------

Nope, everything was absolutely wonderful...beyond my expectations. I'd be contacting the designer(s) if there were "subpar" quality, not posting about it anonymously here.

I'm just reading the comments about the Digi Files for this month. I have no clue what kind of customers you are where you think this month is terrible, but I love this months contributions!
----------

I notice you didn't mention Michelle Godin's contribution. Is it really that dark?

Not everyone has the same taste, there were quite a few who didn't like it, compared to you and one other person who did. It's a good thing we all like different things.

DigiSmacker said...

#120 it was removed because it was so out of date. There were stores on it that had closed 3 years ago.

Anonymous said...

Yes, but some of them are still smack worthy. LOL! Actually I always thought it took too long to load.

Anonymous said...

This year I bought from designers foe the first time and I was impressed. They may be years in the business but it's the first time they caught my eye.
Here are a few:
Little Butterfly Wings
Shawna Clingerman
Libby Pritchett
Thatty Borges
Pixel Geek
Siamese Studio
Meagan's Creations
Kim Broedelet
Enkay Design
Vicki Stegall
Anna Aspnes
Mommyish
Daniel Engebretson
Mari Koegelenberg
Just Jaimee
Inspired Designs

and now that I checked my folders most of my new supplies were from designers I don't know.

Good Call removing what was specifically asked for so when people start using abbreviations we don't get a thousand questions about what's pbp or il. Bang up job directing this boat so far captain! Would you like to remove the search button next?

If it fucking bothered you so much then just fucking update it but it was put there because people ASKED for it to be there.

Anonymous said...

I bought a lot from SSD, SO and a little bit from TDC this year. Designers I bought from for the first time were Amanda Heimann at SO and Elise's Pieces at TDC. I spent about $100 and I'm not done unzipping yet but so far I am really pleased with everything I bought. Im counting it as a successful DSD.

People asked asked anyway because they were too darn lazy to look to the right, either that, or they were stupid.

Anonymous said...

Maybe a couple, but most didn't. I saw a decrease in the number of people asking. Most asked for ones not listed. Either way, it was something that was requested and the new "leader" seems to take it upon themselves to undo what we as participants asked for and Gen was kind enough to do for us in the first place.

Anonymous said...

I would have rather had a star next to the stores that were gone, and the rest left there. I know that was requested a little while back. Just a thought.

Anonymous said...

Maybe the new DigiSmacker is working on a current list.

Anonymous said...

Or maybe she just liked the feeling of being queen. Personally, I find her handling of this blog and posts to be worse than the actual smacking. To me, she is picking and choosing what should be allowed and disallowed. She says no advertising, but every link we post about a kit being copied, violations, designers stores, sales, fb pages, stores we hate, stores we love, every last bit of that is advertising. Hell, we all go look at the kit, the blog train, the store, just so we can join the bitch fest, and of course, we inevitably end up looking through the stores for the hell of it. Sure some come here and of course, didn't need to outright advertise like she did, but it still didn't deserve the shit it received. She removed the list that was very helpful, when she could have asked any of us to simply list the stores we know are gone and she could remove those from the list. I'm done here. It seems since Gen let this blog go, any actual quality smack went with her. It has turned into schoolyard bickering. Most likely the new blog owner knows just how many of her friends are here posting right along with her, since she has no problem with the contents of some posts. I'm going to find a new smack blog, or start one myself that doesn't censor people.

Anonymous said...

I'm done here.
------

Promise?

Anonymous said...

You are so right! Every designer wants to pimp their kit in conjunction with being accused of piracy. That's not at all different from a designer using their own name and trying to advertise her store.

I personally would prefer ad free smack.

Anonymous said...

I can't blame 136. This blog has lost what credibility it had. Gennifer didn't censor posts, so why does this one want to change things? Last time I checked, it was a smack blog, anything goes. Sure there has been some good information shared, we must take it all with a grain of salt because none of us know exactly how much of what is posted here is true and where it came from. If the new blog owner wants to censor things, then there should be no more external links to similar kits, no more bitching about ugly color schemes, ridiculous stores, or who is leaving what store. Why bother to smack? Nothing to smack about if she sticks her nose in and changes things. I might just leave too, and 137 you sure are a snarky little bitch aren't you? Save your sarcasm.

Anonymous said...

Me, too!

Anonymous said...

Perhaps she should not delete the comments from the spam filter for male enhancement pills? We'll just smack that too!?

Anonymous said...

139, it's not your blog. You want to limit rules go start your own.

Anonymous said...

I think you are all over reacting control freaks!

Anonymous said...

Good lord - she told one idiot to stop pimping herself and y'all are just losing it! Get over it already. She fucked up and I'm sure she knows that. Chill out already.

Anonymous said...

Why yes! I am snarky. I do save my sarcasm. But only for you lovelies on this blog.

Anonymous said...

I think if you have to bitch about a smack blog not having credibility, you seriously need to get over it. Goodness, some of you sound like you're going to have a stroke over this. You're going into a high speed wobble over the OWNER of the blog moderating ONE post and removing a list with a bunch of outdated info. Ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I've lost something... Won't there be a blog train for November?

I actually agree with #144. Give her time. Everyone learns from their mistakes when starting a new job. (And this is basically a thankless job anyway.) I'm sure an improved store list will come soon.

Anonymous said...

So true, every designer who gets smacked here gets lots of free publicity.
So keep smacking away and you are helping some designers more than harming them!

Anonymous said...

To learn what ? Open a new thread every month, check your spam folder everyday ? Geezz even a 2 years old could do that.

When you have nothing better to smack about, smack the blog owner!! Just sitting here laughing at the idiocy of it all.

Trish is retiring and there has been some discussion on dst doing its own blog train or someone taking over the old train for Trish.

Anonymous said...

I don't want to complain for the sake of complaining. Thanks for adding the list on the right again and for updating it. However, there was a purpose also for the outdated list of closed stores. I have often noticed references to such closed stores using acronyms, and if they are not current and on the list, that is exactly when I would want to refer to a list. Any way to keep the initial list and put a * in front of the closed ones? just a suggestion from someone who did use that list.

Anonymous said...

Some current stores are missing too. I dont care about the closed ones.

Designers: If you release a kit in store that was previously in TDF, was available free in your newsletter/on your blog, or was otherwise already released for purchase/download, please mention that in your kit description. You can't call something "NEW!" if it's been released before.

Anonymous said...

^^^^
Well said, that is so frustrating, admit that it was previously released, or be like the other designer and let people know that they already should have it, lol.

Anonymous said...

Customers: Keep your files organized and CHECK THEM before you buy something and you won't have problems purchasing something you previously got elsewhere (or free!)

Anonymous said...

How difficult is it to state in the description, previously released as a freebie or previously released at Daily Digi ect. If it has been released somewhere else then it shouldn't be considered new even if it hasn't been released at that store. Some people have all their items on DVD's where they can't check all the time.

Anonymous said...

So every time a designer moves or opens multiple shops she has to tell you that you might have gotten something elsewhere? Seems unreasonable to me- and some shops would have a big problem with that being in the kit description.

Anonymous said...

But saying it is NEW is false advertisement

Anonymous said...

To me its up to me to be organized and know what I have. The designer might be required to put things in as a new release by her shop if they are new to the store, regardless of where they were before.

Anonymous said...

^^^^^^^^^^^^
Amen.

Anonymous said...

To me its up to me to be organized and know what I have. The designer might be required to put things in as a new release by her shop if they are new to the store, regardless of where they were before.

--------------

That I understand but the designer can still mention if it was part of TDF or a FB freebie.

Anonymous said...

Yes it is that easy

Anonymous said...

The smacking hasn't changed at all.

------

What a drama llama you are. The blog owner simply said no advertising which has, somehow, miraculously changed into censoring everything. Old smack blog owners also censored occasionally. Get a grip.

Anonymous said...

I have to agree, it's not that hard to put into the description that something was previously offered for free, part of collab or a membership kit. All the designers I buy from do this.

It's not the same as asking them to put previously released every time they move. That apples and oranges.

Some of you sure do like to overreact to things, don't you?

Anonymous said...

Why does the smack blog have to be about negative things only and not just plain gossip due to anonymity?
I never understood that...
I'm guessing some people have fun being harsh.
It would be nice to have an anonymous blog where we could write opinions good and bad? I would also love to compliment some designers. let people know if they did something kind or generous but I would like to do that anonymously.
Maybe it's time for someone to start a new blog without all the nastiness.
I wish I could but I don't have the time to start it.

Anonymous said...

#171 - it's been tried and failed.

I'm not sure why you would want to compliment a designer anonymously, seems counter productive to me. If they are nice and generous, let the rest of the community know.

Smack talk, by it's very nature and name is negative and harsh.

If you want to gossip or say nice things, there are forums out there for just such a purpose, lots of them. I've never understood why people want to be all nicey nice on a smack blog when there are places that already do that.

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure why you would want to compliment a designer anonymously, seems counter productive to me. If they are nice and generous, let the rest of the community know.
-----

#172 Because we can do it anonymously. I don't want people to know who I am when I compiment or criticize a designer or a store.

Anonymous said...

Then just do it.

Anonymous said...

Customers: Keep your files organized and CHECK THEM before you buy something and you won't have problems purchasing something you previously got elsewhere (or free!)
----
I do organize my files. HOWEVER, sometimes I download stuff and don't have a chance to unzip/add to my Excel spreadsheet. So, when a previous TDF contributor puts her kit in her store--and calls it "NEW!" in the description--it makes me think that I don't have it.
I expect a designer to have multiple stores (and I don't expect her to say "Previously released at my other store." I know that's been released because I frequent her shop). What I do not know is if something was released via MSA HIWTAI, TDF, or The Fix (and now ScrapStacks and MSA's new pass will be in that list). Yes, the designers have to put "new to their store" releases in the store's New Release X-Cart category. But that's all the more reason to correctly state "Was a part of March Digi Files" or whatever. It seems shady to pretend it's a never-before-seen kit. They could use it to their advantage and say "Don't subscribe to the Digi Files? Then this kit is New to You!" (like NBC did with reruns on Thursday nights). I can't imagine a store wouldn't want them to mention it.

Anonymous said...

I don't want people to know who I am when I compiment or criticize a designer or a store.
-----

I understand the anon criticizing part, but not the anon complimenting part.

Anonymous said...

#176 it would be like you're sucking up to the designer. What don't you understand?

Anonymous said...

Looking like sucking up, I guess. It would never occur to me to look it like that.

Anonymous said...

And if the store owner doesnt want references to other sites on their site? Then what?

Anonymous said...

#179 - Not all forums are attached to stores.

Anonymous said...

"Customers: Keep your files organized and CHECK THEM before you buy something and you won't have problems purchasing something you previously got elsewhere (or free!)"
---------------------------------

It would be helpful if designers labeled their stuff clearly with their name. Sometimes it's hard to know whether you have the kit already when the designer changes their name.

Anonymous said...

I've got one of those weird memories that can't remember what I need at the grocery store but I can remember what kits and rubber stamps I have.

Anonymous said...

someone mentioned a while back that NDISB (which store is left off the list I notice) was going to close. Does anyone know if that's true and if so, when they are closing?

Anonymous said...

I love this blog. people are so.... hmm., I would say innocent but I don't know if that's the right word. The smacking here is so nice... look around google for other smack blogs and you will see it's a walk in the park here.

I was reading the 2peas smack blog the other day and whoa, the nastiness these people are capable of is shocking. This blog has nothing on that!

Anonymous said...

#179 - it wouldn't be difficult to simply write "This has been released elsewhere previously - please check your stash"

Anonymous said...

#184 - I couldn't agree with you more. Some of the mommy and parenting boards are much, much worse.

Not to mention that the old paper scrap smack blog was really nasty.

Anonymous said...

I agree #181. Even if they don't name every element, at least put the standard name-kitname-element etc naming scheme. It makes it so much easier, especially if you use more than one kit at a time for crediting (if you have an action or otherwise).

Anonymous said...

Nevermind the boards, have you seen some of the Mommy groups on facebook? You wouldn't believe what they call others who don't have the same parenting style as themselves.

Anonymous said...

DST forget to pay their rent? Anyone else having trouble connecting to the board?

Anonymous said...

183- I mentioned it and yes, I believe it to be true. I have heard it from 3 of their designers.

Anonymous said...

So, who is NDISB? (For real, not being snarky to our blog owner!)

Anonymous said...

184-I didn't know 2 peas had a smack blog--or are you talking about the nsbr board?

Anonymous said...

172-I have tried complimenting a designer here and it ended up in someone else tearing her apart so I don't mention designers names here anymore. Somehow I guess complimenting on a smack blog doesn't go over well.

Anonymous said...

#191 Natural Designs in Scrap Booking owned by Theresa Hernandez and been around about 8 years so wouldn't surprise me if what you heard is the case about it closing, though I hadn't heard anything and I know some designers there.

Anonymous said...

So if they do close, do you think someone will take over ADSR or will it die off with the forum?

Anonymous said...

I was wondering the same thing.
