Totally agree with #23 on the last page of November's posts about the spamming of The Digi Files with Disney crapola. I don't care about Disney. And if I did, I'd have signed up on one of the other gazillion times she's mentioned Capturing Magic on the show or on her Digi Files email. And besides, her name is very similar to another Disney-themed scrapbook designer's and blogger's name, which is confusing.

Thank you #31(November) for the Lilypad scrapstacks preview.

I'm all for the Disney stuff but I also thought that two emails (perhaps it was a mistake) was a bit of an overkill? And I also was all excited thinking it was TDF itself that had an announcement for that portion of the site instead of advertising a new deal. I just chalk it up to the owner being really excited about her project.

As for the ScrapOrchard vs. Mscraps advent dealio.. I'm not finding anything at ScrapOrchard that looks like what MScraps has up.. in fact I don't think SO has even posted yet for their advent event. I actually went to look in their blog history for last year's event but the feed doesn't go back that far.. so *shrug* yeah.

#3 looks like a fairly new designer but if not new then she does need to do something else. I always give a new designer the benefit of the doubt because we all were new once upon a time and I can guarantee you all those top designers now weren't designing that way in the beginning and a handful still aren't.

Jen Yurko guesting at SBB? Her shop must not be doing well. Bad decision. Does she realize how bad that looks for another store owner to guest somewhere else? Watch for upcoming news about her store biting the dust.

Anonymous said...

LOL #6, I'm not surprised at all. Who owns SBB anyway?

Anonymous said...

Amy somebody owns SBB

Jen's guesting at Digital Studio, too.

Anyone buy and download this month's digifiles yet? I like a few of the designs but wondering how the kits turned out.

C'mon who doesn't see the similarities? Ok yes they're different colors but Mscraps could at least use a layout with same size squares and not the same mixed up style like Scrap orchard.

Anonymous said...

I have a question for shop owners - do you think it benefits shops to require their designers who are in more than one shop, to match prices across the board? I understand requiring them to equally market all shops, but to match all sale prices? To me, that hurts any unique promotions that a shop may have. If a designer is being featured in one of her shops, it makes sense to focus on marketing THAT shop. Or, if my shop is putting the effort into preparing the details, graphics and marketing a promotion, I want to see links to my shop in the designer ads/newsletters, etc. I don't expect to piggy back off of other shop's promos & efforts either. What do you think?

Anonymous said...

http://www.domestifluff.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/silhouette-advent-calendar.jpg

Actually it is from this type of wooden advent box so neither of them are something super new or unique!! I'd call it traditional advent calendar style. Honestly I think it a bit much to call it copying without saying anyone who uses a wooden box style as a template is copying as well.

Anonymous said...

you could require your designers to be exclusive then you wouldn't have that problem!

I'll repeat, SO did not come with this up idea nor this style. We get it, you don't like MS and think they copied SO, well, they didn't. Get over it.

Anonymous said...

I like Mscraps, you're wrong. I'm just writing what came to my mind when I saw their daily advent download.
The only difference I see with Scrap orchard are the colors and that their daily designer has 40% off instead of 50%.
Ok so the advent calendar isn't unique but Scrap Orchard is the only digi store I've known that has been doing it every year with the silhouette layout.
I've seen more extreme reactions on this blog for less copied stuff.
Anyway that's my opinion.

#10 - I have it, I donwloaded it, but I'm not sure how to answer your question. Do you like Retro-style Christmas? (I don't)

Mommyish has one - and she's clipped the side and bottom from one oval frame, the center of her rolled flower is blurry, and there are a host other quality issues, so many I don't feel like wasting my time. Isn't this girl a CU designer? Snowflakes have 6 sides, not more, not less.

The other retro Christmase is from Polka Dot Pixels and is a DHD style kit - flat patterend paper shapes, mostly. 6 retro santa stamps, a couple odf them made into stickers, and plain patterned paper with little texture and hanging ornaments (flat as if they'd been cut from wrapping paper) with words like Noel, Joy, etc.
Big Jaggies on one of the Christmas present shapes I opened, but not on the ornaments.

Kimeric sent in a very nice kit in exactly her signature style with a dozen-plus bonus papers.

MLE Card sent in a Birthday kit - a very cute one.

Snips N Snails sent in an okay winter kit. 6-sided snowflakes, your regular flowers, foliage, snowflakes kit.

Pink Poppy Press sent in a wildflower brush set. Those filled in flowers you used to see a lot of. They are distressed and regular. Plus another set in Katie Pertiet style, except the words are still very legible and would show in a LO. "Calvin to Edward the SIXTH, KING OF ENGLAND" shows so clearly it's as if it's a title. They are cute, but need some more erasing IMHO. She also sent in some distressed textured papers in nice summer colors.

I would say it was worth $7.50 to me, but not a penny more. I dont have a Kimeric kit, so it's nice to see it up close.

..and Michelle Batton had some blocked 'year in review' templates. Four. Two of them go across the page into a double pager and I have trouble with the printing of those in bound books. Two are blocked singles.

Anonymous said...

Re Daily Digi and the "Big announcement", now THAT I would personally consider spam. I subscribed to a scrap newsletter, not a travel newsletter.

I didn't like it but was ok the first time they announced the site opening in a Daily Digi newsletter but it's getting way too much. When I saw the subject in the newsletter, I was semi-expecting news that they're closing or having a change in ownership or taking a break for a month or something, not something so piddly like an App for some other site!

I like Disney but I don't live in a country with a Disneyland and it's unlikely I will ever get to go there so I'm totally uninterested & very much dislike being forced to read news about it.

Anonymous said...

The best part of TDD this month was mle Card's contribution. Not worth anywhere near $7.50. Kimeric's looks very blurry and her preview shadows are horrendous. I hope her quality is better than it looks in the preview.

After last month and this month, I'd rather take the $15 and buy stuff I really want.

Anonymous said...

I've seen more extreme reactions on this blog for less copied stuff.
-----

Because it's not copied, that's why. Not in the least. While you may have only seen SO have that style layout for the advent calendar, other stores have had it before them.

Anonymous said...

13- I think a smart designer keeps their prices the same at all shops for regular priced stuff- I'd be pissed if I paid $8 for something that was $6 somewhere else. (talking regular prices- not special events) But, if you are being featured or one shop is having a special promotion, then it makes sense to focus on that one site for that one promotion.

Well, well, well, looks like Ms. Charly just can't get her shit together again! She has reinvented herself once again and hasn't bothered to cover her tracks. Does she never learn? Any twin or triplets coming out of the woodwork to explain this one?

#24 Give me examples, which stores before SO? Because I've been in digiland for 5 years and I don't remember any other major store doing something similar? An advent calendar silhouette type layout with parts of each designers free kit as a clue,a daily download and that designer having a one day sale.

Anonymous said...

#27 - Quite a few of the major stores were doing it 5, 6 and 7 years ago. Not exactly the same, but the layout was very similar.

Some of them were

Funky Playground
Digi Chick
CatScrap

Geez, what were the other popular stores way back then? I can't even remember.

Anonymous said...

#26 - anyone going to out her? I was feeling sorry for her when I found out some crap but I'm not feeling sorry anymore. I really dislike liars and cheats.

Anonymous said...

No clue 29, I just found it by accident today. I was browsing the store and came across the kit linked above, and kept thinking I had seen it before, then it dawned on me, and I just do not understand this woman's problem. isn't enough what happened back in October? I mean seriously, Sunny Day Scraps, Crescent Moon Designs, wtf. I'm sure once she trolls herself in her, she'll see people are on to her game and she'll either disable the SDS kit, or the CMD kit, one or the other, or say how her sister did the kit or some such bullshit. The paper preview is freaking identical! I don't feel sorry for her anymore either, this goes beyond pathetic.

Anonymous said...

#26 lol what a loser!!

OMG someone's having a 30% off sale. They are totally copying that other store that had a sale for 30% off and they've been doing that for years!

Advent calendars aren't original, Activities surrounding advent calendars aren't original. None of these stores is original! Counting down until Christmas and Christmas sales aren't original. Get a grip. Go drink an eggnog and get frisky under the mistletoe already.

Anonymous said...

Six sided snowflakes!!!! Oh my gosh hold the phone! Are you kiddin me? I like the kit... And even more that she put elements for Jewish scrappers like me. The word art elements were funny as well. So yeah, I think I can look past the five sided snowflakes. Do people care that much about snowflakes to count the sides? Are you OCD or something? I'd hate to be your kid! " I'm sorry Suzy, your snowflake doesn't have the required sides to go on the fridge."

Anonymous said...

" I'm sorry Suzy, your snowflake doesn't have the required sides to go on the fridge."

LMAO.

Anonymous said...

#20 - if you don't have a Kimeric kit yet.. and say it is her signature style.. um.. sorry that seems to not add up. Are you Kimeric or one of her CT members? Hmmm... makes me wonder! It seems only right to keep it on the down-low and cut other designers down while building the one up. We can skip the crazy margarita kit and complain about decent ones. Lets do that.

The Digi Files Contributors:

Mommyish - This isn't a straight Christmas kit but more like a Holiday kit or something? I tried to look for the issues the other poster refereed to. The frame seems to not have been cut off but rather extracted that way? I dunno but it didn't look *bad* to me? I can see what they meant, however. The blurry flower.. I did look for that. It is a rolled flower so it is the very middle bottom that is out of focus but the edges aren't. I've noticed a lot of rolled flowers photographing just like this so I don't see how that is worse than any other designers flower? Not seeing a "host" of other issues. So the verdict : Papers look good. Elements are good.. but the word art is what stands out. Very fun.

Polka Dot Pixels - CUTE!!!! I really like this kit. I love the traditional colors and the retro vibe. I did also find jaggies on the presents but I figure re-sized down it won't really matter. The retro Santa graphics are nice! I like the paper scrapping feel of this kit. So: Elements - Good save for some jaggies (which aren't insane) and Papers - A bit standard but nice!

Snips & Snails - I'm not a huge fan of the palette but all together it is a really nice kit. Some of the elements seem a bit "sharp" if that makes sense. They aren't jaggies though. There is one element I fell in love with.. it is this vintage tag that is really lovely! The sweater-like textured elements are also really fun. The addition of gift tags is nice for those of us who like to print off and use. Verdict : Elements - A good variety, good quality and works with a standard winter theme. Papers - Not amazing, not bad. The texture on the solids is really nice and the snowflake papers are pretty.

Pink Poppy Press - I've never bought anything from this designer before. I don't feel like this is a full-price sort of collection but I do like it! I like the bright papers that are distressed. Generally I hate bright things but this really works. Her stamps are really pretty and gives both shabby/solid versions. Verdict: Not a lot of items, but what is there is very nice!

Kimeric Kreations: I wasn't sure if I liked the almost coral feeling red at first, but it grew on me. It is a pretty kit. When I see kits like this they remind me of my grandma's house. It is a classic frilly sort of feel. Verdict: Pretty Elements.. would like to have seen more word art type things but overall nice. Papers - A bit overdone. Why do I say this? Basically you have a set of normal patterned papers and then your solids, then folder upon folder of "bonus" papers which are basically the same few patterns recolored a zillion times. I feel like most people can do that themselves, but it doesn't seem like an amazing bonus to me.

Michelle Batton - I've never had her templates before. I like these! I've seen her templates before and *almost* bought on a few occasions. I think I may actually buy some now! I'm liking it! Verdict : Nice if you like a more traditional style.

Anonymous said...

MLE Card - I've never had any of her products before so this is new. Her templates are both nice. I've never been one for this more "hand drawn" sort of style but I am really impressed! The drawings and water-colors are really beautiful! In the end that is what stands out in the kit. The papers are ok.. not amazing.. and again the ones that stand out are the ones with the drawings. Verdict : Really unique. Nice standard templates & Super cute kit with a lovely water-color/drawn style!

Overall Thoughts - I like the fact that everything in here isn't 100% Christmas themed.I feel it is well worth the 7.50 if not more, actually. I'm enjoying this months better than last months, for sure.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know who owns DHD? Or any inside scoop about this store?

Anonymous said...

30-A lot of designers sell under two names. You said yourself you liked the kit until you found out it was from her. It does actually look nice. I'm not fond of her usual style, but I do like that particular kit. She's trying to support her family. Let her do it, or she'll be on welfare and we'll all be giving her our tax money. Maybe she already is on welfare for all I know. At least she's trying-more than can be said of most of the people on welfare.

I too loved the Polka Dot pixels kit in the digi files. It was my favorite part of the whole files this month.

Anonymous said...

Why would designers sell under two different names? It seems counterproductive to me if one has to build two separate followings. If the reason has to do with having different types of products, or two different styles, maybe, but having the same products under two names does not seem to make sense.

Who else is (or has been) designing simultaneously under two different names?

Anonymous said...

re TDF: I haven't actually unzipped and looked at the quality of the kits (and thanks to those of you who have...except the person who is mad about the snowflakes. Dude, lighten up.), but looking at the previews made me happy. EXCEPT, I would have preferred no holiday kits. Does that make me weird? Probably. I just think that a designer should do something different than holiday because there's already such a glut of holiday kits. But I like the kits, especially Mommyish's theme. (We're a "mixed religion" family, so it's nice to see a kit include more than Christmas.) And I love mle Card so, for me, TDF is worth it just for her kit (well, I'm obsessed with birthday kits, so hers being bday themed was just icing on the cake).

Anonymous said...

Who design with 2 names ? Cause to be honest except for those who are part of duo teams like Connie and Trixie with North meets south I don't see a designer selling with x name and y name at the same time.

As for Sunny day Crap here is her new blog http://www.crescent-moon-designs.blogspot.ca/

Anonymous said...

I know why she wants a new name. On the new blog she states that she is EXCLUSIVE to PDW. Maybe that is her way to pretend she is exclusive? Is that a requirement at PDW?

Anonymous said...

No it's not and if you see she is not set as an exclusive designer there.

Anybody buy the Holiday Hoopla at MSA? http://www.myscrapbookart.com/xcart/product.php?productid=17533&cat=0&page=&featured=Y
The info says it's from 7 stores and 8 special guests. Anyone buy it and willing to tell us what you think? I looked at all the previews and there are lots of elements/papers that look good, but are they good quality (no jaggies/blurriness/etc)?

I am thinking of buying the holiday hoopla from MSA but I haven't taken the plunge yet.. same with the scrap stacks collab.. I wonder if they are both worth it.. anyone bought them yet?

Anonymous said...

Designers, please only put KITS in the "Kits" category. WA, alphas, QPs, flair packs, paper packs, and other non-kit items don't belong in the Kit Category. If you want to make sure shoppers see those items, then list them (with links) in the kit description. Don't muck up the kit category with other stuff. (Bella Gypsy, I'm talking to you. At SO, when I arranged Kits by Price, almost the whole first page was non-kit stuff by you. And I like you, so please take that stuff out so I keep buying from you.) Oh, and Designers, a bundle isn't a grab bag. It's a bundle.

Anonymous said...

Ummm...does anyone else find it wierd with the MSA collab that all of the "special guests" are in fact from DHD? So why phrase it that way? Why not just include DHD in the list of stores? Something odd is going on there, so who knows what it is? Someone must.

its Charly, aka Crescent Moon alright. Found this by doing a "View Source" on that new Crescent Moon blog. Charly's last name is Lyons. The photobucket source is "LyonsDesigns" - copying and pasting:

href="http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii108/LyonsDesigns/Crescent%20Moon/Product%20Previews/CMD-GBLane-Papers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii108/LyonsDesigns/Crescent%20Moon/Product%20Previews/CMD-GBLane-Papers.jpg" width="400"

Anonymous said...

Oh 39, bless your poor soul. You are obviously not aware of just how much shit Ms. Charly has done. Go back and read through October & November, you'll find the issue isn't with her having two names, the issue is about her lies, dual personality, and getting caught tripping over all her stories because she can't keep them straight. If it were as simple as having two design names, that wouldn't be a problem, a lot of designers do, some because they design with a friend and then on their own, but what she has done is way beyond that. Happy Reading.

Anonymous said...

#46 the same way her new site whois says she is from PA. She obviously used a fake address, or a family members address. Trying to cover her tracks and her ass I would imagine, but looks like she forgot to cover everything if the photobucket account says Lyons. The new blog is obviously her style, too close to her original name, and she might have gotten away with it if she didn't use the exact same kits she already had! She'll never learn, she must enjoy giving fodder for smack.

Ok.. just downloaded Holiday Hoopla from MSA. I haven't unzipped yet (there were like 45 zip files) but looking at each stores contribution preview and the guests it really does look like a steal at 5.00. The Holiday Hoopla kit is very uninspiring. There's nothing new about it. Same old color scheme, same old elements. Good luck to Gen in her new endeavor. I am sure that it is a scary thing, starting a new site, with shops closing all around lately.

I'm not sure scary is the right word... stupid is what comes to mind. Poor economies in almost every developed nation worldwide and digi stores closing left and right and it's still an oversaturated market. Starting a new store makes so much sense... eyeroll

I think blogspot automatically changes the .com ending to .ca if you are in Canada when you view the site. I'm in Canada & it started doing this to all the blogspot sites a few months ago, even to blogs that I know are based in the US. It seems to be based on which country you (the reader) are located in, not which country the blog owner is in.

SO has been doing the Advent thingy for years. They were the first ones I've seen that do a reveal every day, have a freebie each day that all adds up to a complete Christmas kit, and have a designers store or category half off each day. I've seen other stores do sort of similar things, but MScraps didn't even try to make theirs unique or different. Anybody with sense can see that.

Anonymous said...

#81 - no one cares except you and maybe someone else. SO were not the first, even if they were the first that YOU saw.

Other stores have also done a reveal a day with a freebie that adds up to a complete kit. And some designers had sales then too. Not so much now, with all the sales going on in November, but before then, sure.

Anonymous said...

81: So what? I agree with 82 and even if you were right ... WTF? Is SO going to take this to the Supreme Scrap Court and have it dealt with there? Though shalt not have a reveal a day or pre xmas sale... gimme some real smack here...

Anonymous said...

PDW knows that it's Charly. My opinion of them is now worse than it was before.

Anonymous said...

#81 I'm the one that first mentioned the SO-Mscraps advent calendar situation here.
I'm glad someone else agrees with me.
It's fishy that so many people here are defending it like it's not a big deal.
It's almost the same thing. And FYI people just because it's a silhouette whatever copy doesn't mean that all advent calendars have to look the same.
TLP also did a layout with a calendar but they were unique, they did it totally differently.
So did One Story Down with the Naughty Elf..they were unique too.Ok they didn't do an advent calendar but they have an everyday sale.
I Loved that by the way!!
Anyway..SO is getting all my money again this year. I can't resist these everyday 50% sales.
They're too good to be true.
I also bought some $ deals at One Story Down.

Anonymous said...

#81 MScraps didn't even try to make theirs unique or different. Anybody with sense can see that.

Totally agree with you!!

#84 - how do you know that PDW knows it's Charly?

Anonymous said...

It's fishy that so many people here are defending it like it's not a big deal.
---

Fishy? Oh please, it's not fishy. It's not a big deal because it's just a freaking advent calendar. So what? They copied the idea and the layout, according to you. Are the kits the same? Did they; copy those? Huh, huh? Are they? If not, STFU.

Scrapgirls did one years ago and I believe they still do.
So did Funky Playground when Corinna and Tracy still had it.
So did CatSCrap in the early days.
So did ... endless number of the old stores.

Anonymous said...

#88 I don't care what other shops did ages ago. I'm talking about this year and this year Mscraps totally copied Scrap Orchards Daily Download Advent Calendar Idea. There are only 2 differences. The color scheme and the sale.
Don't get me started on copied ideas and kits my list is too long.I'm not referring to Mscraps but to digiland in general.

Anonymous said...

89: So what are you gonna do about it???? Yes they have a similar graphic, agreed.

You are observant, yes. You have made that clear, congrats. Does it let you sleep better (in a deeper, healthier level of sleep) when you know that you are right? Or wrong? I really care to know. I bet mscrap doesn't lose any business because of that. SO is getting all your money? Good for them, good for you! Good for the taxman too!

Anonymous said...

#89 - but SO copied the idea from somewhere else. Why aren't you complaining about that?

Anonymous said...

I saw the advent but didn't think it's such a big deal either. The idea and layout have been around for years and nothing is really original in digiscrap anyway.

What bugs me more is how MScraps sends out a newsletter EVERYDAY throughout the event. (Well it's only day 3 now but the way it's going, I think it's gonna come everyday.) I'm tempted to put them in spam for the month. I'm not a subscriber of SO's newsletters though so I don't know if they do the same?

Anonymous said...

Yes SO sends a newsletter each day too.

#90 There's nothing I can do about it. I'm just complaining because it disturbed me. Like it disturbs me everytime I see one designer getting "inspiration" from another.
Anyway I'm not going to continue this..
It's my personal opinion. I'm over it already.

Does anyone know how often the Bargain Bites at SSD change?

I just saw the Mommyish contribution to the Digi Files and I'm sold already.
Too bad the last two months weren't that good.

DHD says Mary Shaw Owner and Site Admin

Anonymous said...

I'm in total agreement with 89 on the copying. I've been around digi for a long time and SO has used that style of calendar for years. Mscraps copied the graphic (not the idea of giving something out for advent.)

It's not like it is a huge deal but it makes me think that Mscraps really lacks creativity by not coming up with something more original for their advertisement/reveal methods. Pretty low for a company that is supposed to be creative and original.

Anonymous said...

What bugs me more is how MScraps sends out a newsletter EVERYDAY throughout the event.

--------

DUH! It's advent and it's supposed to be daily.

Anonymous said...

87 - Because I told them and they responded.

Anonymous said...

98- I wonder if she told them who she was when she applied? I dont care about the multiple names, but why lie about where you live etc?

Anonymous said...

Maybe they want to give her "a second chance"? However, with all the turmoil that her previous double identity has brought, I am surprised anyone would give her a second chance. If I were a store owner (and maybe it is a good thing I am not), I would very hesitant to take on a designer with that kind of history with her.

Anonymous said...

Considering that the owner of PDW is about the only one producing (from a quick look at the store) I would say they have nothing to lose by adding her. There isn't anything to offer there anyway.

Anonymous said...

Thank you #96, finally a voice of reason!!!

"Mscraps copied the graphic (not the idea of giving something out for advent.)"

Yes!!!They could have been more creative, digital scrapbooking is all about creativity.

Lynne-Marie designs is coming back to designing January 2013.
Is this a new trend? Designers retiring for good and then returning after a few months?

Anonymous said...

I think what happens is you get so very burnt out you forget what you enjoyed about designing/creating and that after a few months away you miss the process. I think it may be a better idea to take a hiatus than say you are retiring.. because you may always end up coming back.

That being said I really liked Lynne-Marie so I'm glad to see she will be back. There was another designer that had quit Secret Something? She came back under Erin Kay with a fresh look etc. I have nothing against folks coming back.. plus I'm a fan of retirement sales. LOL

Anonymous said...

#102 - you know, when a bunch of people say one thing and only two say another ...

Besides, like I said a zillion times, the graphic at SO is not original either.

Does that make me a voice of reason and someone with sense or not? Probably not, because it's not what you want to hear.

Anonymous said...

Is this a new trend? Designers retiring for good and then returning after a few months?
------

New? Don't make me laugh, this has been happening for years.

Anonymous said...

87 - Because I told them and they responded.

Thanks.

I wonder what sob story she told to get a fiftieth chance?

Anonymous said...

Is this a new trend? Designers retiring for good and then returning after a few months?

-----

It's human. It's called changing your mind. Most of the nimrods on this blog apparently don't ever do that because they love to smack designers that retire and return.

Anonymous said...

Besides, like I said a zillion times, the graphic at SO is not original either.

----

You have yet to show us a digital store that used that same graphic design as SO's before they did it and prove it too. Everyone is copying paper companies, so that's lame to say that's what they are doing. But copying within the digital scrapbook industry has always been taboo and bad for business.

Anonymous said...

Anyway..SO is getting all my money again this year. I can't resist these everyday 50% sales.
They're too good to be true.

-----

Me too. I've spent money there every day.

PBP has a 12 days of Christmas 50% off deal going on too. Bought a few things there the last few days

I only found one thing I like at OSD

Anonymous said...

#109 I want proof too!

In the end everyone is copying someone in a good way which is called inspiration or in a bad way which is called copying.
But this is far from just inspiration.
It's almost the same thing.
And I don't care what other stores did years ago, We're talking about today.
Whoever wants to defend the past must show proof or else your arguement will be dismissed.

Anonymous said...

Lynne-Marie designs is coming back to designing January 2013.

I bought several things from her - new kits before she retired - and they were filled with horrible jagged edges. She has such a great style, but the quality is so poor. When her collab with Studio 68 came out, I woudln't buy it.

Anonymous said...

hmmm, seems like someone from mscraps is posting here! I can't think of any other reasons that wouldn't be considered copying on this blog.

I can't find anything about Charly in November apart from a conversation with somebody opening a new store because Charly did something and Bella Gypsy being part of the branding.

#111 who the hell are you to speak for others saying someone's argument will be dismissed??? You're taking this shit and yourself way too seriously. You sound like an Idiotic drama queen! Bad combo...histrionics and stupidity...

Anonymous said...

117, you still haven't provided the evidence that someone used that graphic before SO. I think that is contributing to your anger. Arguments are dismissed on this blog all the time so I don't see what the big deal is. You can still say whatever you want. Talk about drama queen....

Anonymous said...

No, she isn't, 115. Retired from 9&B long ago.

Anticipating the new Pixels & Company store/site, I turned to Google for more info and came across this blog. Many folks have labelled me naive in the past but I wasn't convinced...until now...I've been in and around digi for 5 plus years and scrapping traditionally for 12. Truly saddens me that such a blog exists. I'm going to tell my naive self that the blog was created as a means to facilitate candid communication via an anonymous format. Seems it's gone awry. All this time I was convinced we are a supportive, loving and nurturing community...until now :( God bless you all.

Anonymous said...

I did the same search and this blog didn't come up. Even when I did the blog search.

Sheesh and you haven't even seen the worst of it if you saw just this page. Right now it's just normal candid conversation. I think you need some big girl panties. It's probably about to get ugly.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Your response #121 unfortunately enhances my point :( I did not specify my search parameters so I'm not sure how you were able to do "the same search". For the record, my parameters were 'Gennifer Bursett Pixels and Company'. Said search keywords in Google generate this blog as the 6th result.

Your defense of SO seems fishy

Anonymous said...

I did search. Nothing.

Anonymous said...

SO has nothing to defend. Mscraps does.

Anonymous said...

So, SO copying a Silhouette design has nothing to defend? hmmmmmmm

Anonymous said...

Again, EVERYONE is copying paper. So, no.

Anonymous said...

yep, then everyone would have to defend their work. But copying within digital scrapbooking is generally a no-no. I guess if the the roles are reversed and SO copied Mscraps, then everyone would be pointing fingers. This blog must have a few Mscrap groupies.

Anonymous said...

Can't speak for everyone else but for me, it's not about SO and MS at all. (I have never spent - nor received - a dime at/from either stores.) Even if it were some obscure stores instead of these two, I'd still find this a non-issue. What can you do with an advent calendar anyway? Using a mixed-up boxes and fonts in one and you are now considered a copy cat? Please.

Anonymous said...

#143 so true!

Anonymous said...

No #142 - this blog simply has a few people with common sense. What you fail to understand is that the majority on here don't feel it's copying. I think you must be from SO to continue on like this. Just.Move.On.

Anonymous said...

#145 ... yes really already, they need to move on. Who cares! It's ONE image and the kits are different - there is no proof it's intentional and if you worry so much about something so small then you really really need a life. sheesh.

Anonymous said...

I am not the lady who keeps bringing up how the advent is copying, but I have to agree with her. A simple Google search of "advent calendar" brought up tons of different styles for calendars. I clicked on "images".

Frankly, I've always found SO's design boring, so I find someone being "inspired" by that design even more boring. I really liked the advent with the little bags (http://ohsheglows.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/DIY-advent-calendar-8305.jpg) and thought that would have been much cuter for a shopping sale tied into advent and far more creative.

At the end of the day, 2 stores are giving away beautiful freebies for advent and having great sales. Customers win regardless.

Anonymous said...

There's more than one "lady" on this one, 147.

Anonymous said...

I'm so glad 145 has multiple personalities. What a great way to support your opinion! Just post twice.

Anonymous said...

No #142 - this blog simply has a few people with common sense. What you fail to understand is that the majority on here don't feel it's copying. I think you must be from SO to continue on like this. Just.Move.On.

---

Common sense? BWAAHAHAHAHAHA!
You thinking we're from SO proves you have none. Copying is copying and if the roles were reversed you Europeans would have SO's head on a platter over this one!

Anonymous said...

My $.02 for what it's worth, if they both came out at the same time, Dec. 1st most likely, there is no way one could have copied the other.

I don't know anything either way, was the calendar posted beforehand?

Anonymous said...

SO used their same layout from last year.

Anonymous said...

Oh get over it, like SO has never copied anything.....oh wait, they had a Block Party over DSD which is exactly what OSD's monthly event is called. The SO people will do that advent calendar, the MS people will do that one and the fact that they both have advent calendars doesn't make one lick of difference.

Anonymous said...

Not the same at all. It would be wrong if they had one event every month called a block party and then copied their ads. It was centered around their kit theme for DSD and was a one time event.

MS is a complete rip-off of their graphic and concept for the Advent event. They could have been more creative and made it all their own. By that I mean more than using a different kit.

I have lost respect for MS, too!

Anonymous said...

If I were the powers that be at SO, I would be complimented that someone else liked my idea so much they decided to give it a go. Different store, different kit (I am assuming different colour choices) and customers who visit get free kit(s).
Other stores have done/are doing it but have a different way or template so I do understand what the original poster is saying. I just don't think SO is going to be too concerned about it.

Anonymous said...

Excuses, excuses...if they were truly original they wouldn't have used the same name of a promotion done by another store. But silly me, it's OK because they are SO.

I mean honestly, there is very little out there that is original any more. Whine, whine, complain, complain....

Anonymous said...

Whine, whine, complain, complain....

---

This is the main purpose of this blog. You haven't been around much?

Anonymous said...

You are right, the powers that be at SO probably aren't too concerned and will carry on with their business. I doubt they are flattered though. I'm a customer at both stores and I care that MS lacks orginality and disrespected another store in this manner.

But silly me, it's OK because they are MS.

Anonymous said...

I just don't get why designers think that it is appropriate in any way to insult any fans or potential customers in public. Complain in private, not on a public FB page.

First Royanna crying about an annoying customer on her FB page and pouting that she may just quick because people are ungrateful. (Yeah it was her personal page, but drama queen has her personal page public).

Now Tracy Martin is complaining because too many people downloaded her freebie. Now people are falling all over themselves, apologizing for not kissing her ass for making a freebie. Won't be in a rush now to check out her quality or spend money in her store.

Anonymous said...

sorry!! "she may just quit"

Anonymous said...

Tracy was complaining about the server not the customers downloading. And two people thanking her doesn't exactly mean that "people" are falling all over themselves.

Way to spin that one!

Royanna always equals drama. No spin needed.

Anonymous said...

161: From Tracy: "Theres another one coming friday in the newsletter for subscribers... at least I know they wont be missing out LOL only problem with FB is so many snag and runners than ruin it for the others."

People shouldn't insult potential customers publicly

Anonymous said...

"Snag and runners" are probably the people who like, download, and unlike. They have no interest in anything other than the freebie.

Anonymous said...

Snag and runners (aka freebie whores) aren't potential customers. They hoard kits on their hard drives and never scrap with the freebies they download. They have no intention of spending a penny. Ever.

The ones who stay subscribed are the potentials even if they don't buy something right away. They might purchase some day from the advertising in their FB feeds.

Anonymous said...

It's a fine line between someone who has been lurking and checking out a designer, waiting to see what they might like to buy and someone who hoards.
To call out "snag and runners" can offend people. It was unnecessary. Keep it positive and upbeat.

Anonymous said...

I do agree that FB posts should be kept positive as often as possible. But freebie whores are frustrating too!

Anonymous said...

I guess if the the roles are reversed and SO copied Mscraps, then everyone would be pointing fingers.
-----

No, they wouldn't, why? Because it's not an issue.

Anonymous said...

Again, EVERYONE is copying paper. So, no.

No they aren't. Unless you are the shopper at SO, then yeah, maybe it seems that way to you.

Anonymous said...

You thinking we're from SO proves you have none. Copying is copying and if the roles were reversed you Europeans would have SO's head on a platter over this one!
----

WTF do Europeans have to do with it? And again, if the roles were reversed, we'd be having the same discussion. It's simply not an issue.

Anonymous said...

But silly me, it's OK because they are MS.
---

It has nothing to do with it being MScraps you twat! If you had been around here long enough, you would know that it gets smacked a lot. Just like SO. Oh, wait, does that mean we are copying?

Anonymous said...

But freebie whores are frustrating too!
-----

Being called a whore is frustrating too, no, wait, that's not frustrating, that's insulting.

I am poster #155 and I don't visit, shop or have anything to do with MS, so no it has nothing to do with it being MS. I was simply stating that I don't think SO powers that be are too worried about it. I understand your issue is the fact the template MS is using is the same that SO is using.......is it fact that SO created that template and is exclusive to them?

If they were concerned then I am sure something would be said but I go back to my original statement which is I don't think SO is that concerned. I really don't see why you are so bent out of shape over it.

As a customer of both stores are you not in a 'win-win' situation with two free kits?

Yeah, those are exactly alike! Wow, even the colors, no, wait, the colors are different, but everything else is exactly the same! No, wait, the elements and decorations are different too. And the numbers are in different places. But aside from all those differences, they are exactly the same. Oh no, I just noticed, even the layout isn't the same.

Does this look familiar:

Yes, it's exactly the same as the others. Oh, wait, no it's not. It's a similar idea though

Yes, it is scrapbooking. Just not your sort of scrapbooking.

All the fantasy scrapbookers I know use their own photos.

Just because you don't think it has any memory preservation, doesn't mean that element isn't there. They can look at the page and know exactly what they are saying and what the memory is. If it's because they sometimes lack journaling, then all scrapbook pages without journaling are lacking in memory preservation.
