#199 - Now, that's funny!

If I'm going to pay that much for a box of cereal, I expect there to be at least 20-30 different pieces of crap in it
-------

My problem is that if I pay that much for cereal, I want cereal, not crap. Why call it cereal if there's no or hardly any cereal in there? Why not call it crap with cereal instead of cereal with crap?

Anonymous said...

It is weirdos and not wierdos. I kept looking at my wierdos and couldn't work out why it looked weird. Total brain fart.

Anonymous said...

This blog has never been so much fun.

That just proves carbs rule!

Anonymous said...

Shh, don't say that too loud or the carb police will turn up.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, we already had one miserable skinny bitch who doesn't let herself enjoy life call us "morbidly obese." Quick, put the carbs away before she sees them!

Anonymous said...

The typo police show up,so the carb police can!

Anonymous said...

mmmmmm I love carbs. And toast, and poptarts...come to think of it I am not picky at all when it comes to carby sugary breakfast foods.

Talk about blatant copyright infringement...

Anonymous said...

and a hilarious one. Complete with response.

Anonymous said...

Disney just doesn't care about toasters - digi designers though, oh, they care about them all right!

Anonymous said...

Disney only cares about waffle irons! Mmmm... waffles!

Anonymous said...

Don't forget about oatmeal, she'll want some acknowledgment as well.

Anonymous said...

OMG!!! I just realized I am infringing on Disney copyright when I make those Mickey pancakes for the grandkids. I will hide in the closet when the Disney police come knocking...

Anonymous said...

Oh oatmeal, oatmeal is just so full of itself.

Anonymous said...

What about eggs? They're low carb for the fat police.

Anonymous said...

Who's talking about the fat police? It's the carb police, totally different.

Anonymous said...

12 you do realize this blog is a joke as well?

You don't say? Well, I never ... not in all my born days ...

This blog is a joke???? *gasp* I'm crushed.

Anonymous said...

What is it about bacon? Everyone loves bacon. I think bacon is a talentless hack.

Anonymous said...

Hell, skip the bacon, I'll have a side of beef please.

Anonymous said...

Is there seriously nothing to smack besides poor bacon, cereal, and pb&j?

Anonymous said...

Well, we could smack sausage, now there is a snotty bitch.

Anonymous said...

^Agreed. Casing doesn't make you so damn special.

Anonymous said...

Yup. Take away the casing and she falls all to pieces.

Anonymous said...

^^^Good one!!!

Anonymous said...

Childish

Anonymous said...

Lighten up.

Anonymous said...

Huh. I thought sausage was a guy. You don't find many guys in digi.

Anonymous said...

Is bacon a girl?

Anonymous said...

Who knows? Bacon is in so many stores under so many different names it's hard to tell.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Aly is bacon?

Anonymous said...

Ya had to go there??

Anonymous said...

A smack blog is just not any fun when you know the quack behind the smack. J/k couldn't think of another word to rhyme with smack.

Anonymous said...

Childish
-----

This? On a smack blog? What, did you get rejected by bacon and sausage? I heard their last collab was really good, all about summer BBQs.

Anonymous said...

Is there seriously nothing to smack besides poor bacon, cereal, and pb&j?
---------

You forgot toast, waffles, marmalade and bagels.

Anonymous said...

What about nutella?

Anonymous said...

Nutella is lip-smacking. Good.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if nutella is going to have a CT call soon? I'd like to try it but don't want to pay for it.

Anonymous said...

Nutella is not only a snot, but nuts.

Anonymous said...

well you have to watch with Nutella, I hear she is very cliquey. It will be the same old bread and butter that get on her team.

Anonymous said...

although this really is funny to me, I'm curious who the people are behind all those foods! So far I think I only figured out 1!

Anonymous said...

Bacon has too many stray pixels.

Anonymous said...

I wasn't talking about anyone in particular, just the "same old" that you hear all the time.

Anonymous said...

It will be the same old bread and butter that get on her team.
-----

Bread and margarine more like, although they think they are butter.

Anonymous said...

FFS must we keep on with this charade? We all know no one even eats breakfast anymore. It's all about lunch.

Anonymous said...

Bacon has too many stray pixels.

I like Bacon, I don't mind cleaning up a few "pigsels"

Anonymous said...

^LMAO!!!

Anonymous said...

I just ate lunch and it just was.not.good. Should I email the designer and demand a refund?

Anonymous said...

I would. Why come here and complain about it? Go straight to the source. If the designer won't give you the refund, then come here and whine about it. I don't think anyone should be allowed to talk about bacon anymore. It will hurt her feelings and it's just plain mean. You are all such witches! And don't think bacon can't find out who you are. She has ways...

Anonymous said...

Do bacon rinds count?

Anonymous said...

Do bacon rinds count?

Only the smart ones. Because let's face it, Bacon Rinds don't have toes to help out.

Actually, though, I think Bacon Rinds are just weak Bacon-wannabes.

Anonymous said...

I'm one of them, doe that help?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the laugh #58

Anonymous said...

Bacon is such a porker.

Anonymous said...

I wont buy from bacon because she's so fat.

Anonymous said...

You know who I can't tolerate? Milk!

Anonymous said...

Enough, already! Is there seriously nothing happening in the digi world to smack about?

Anonymous said...

Since you came up with nothing, I guess not.

Quit throwing a tantrum and expecting to be entertained it reminds me of something ... what is it ... eluding me ... hang on, I'll get it, give me a minute ... oh, it's ... no, it isn't that ... oh, I know ... a toddler

Anonymous said...

What would you add/remove/change to make the DSA/DST/MSA type forums better?

Anonymous said...

MSA is a clique fest- I dont bother. DST is okay to me. I still find useful help and info there. DSA isnt busy enough but again useful at times. I dont hang out at any of them really anymore.

Anonymous said...

I do have a question: Any idea how many parts are in TLP summer bucket kit? They don't say for sure and I don't want to register on the forum just to ask.

Anonymous said...

I was wondering that too.

Anonymous said...

Trends you'd like to see go away. That is a decent topic. Once upon a time there was an owl in every kit... It drove me nuts.

Anonymous said...

I love owls.

Anonymous said...

Trends you'd like to see go away.

---

Hexagons. Blech.

Anonymous said...

I love hexagons.

Anonymous said...

If you look and see how many designers they have you can tell. They will each have a part. I would guess at least 16 parts. I hate daily downloads. You miss just one because you might have a life and you have to buy it.

Anonymous said...

#73 totally agree

Anonymous said...

#73 - thanks. That seems like such an obvious answer I feel a little silly for asking. I usually don't like daily downloads either but liked this kit so thought I would give it a try.

Anonymous said...

okay, seriously, time to shut this place down... really... ya'll are so crazy... lol

Anonymous said...

I hate daily downloads. You miss just one because you might have a life and you have to buy it.
---------
ITA. There's way too much going on in the summer for me to keep up with a daily download.
I'd even be willing to buy the kit, but 1.50 to $3.00 for each piece? I don't like it that much.

Anonymous said...

What ever happened to Shannon the original owner of DST? Once she sold it I don't recall seeing her around.

Anonymous said...

"Don't cut off your nose to spite your face" is a warning against acting out of pique in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one's anger, and that's what all you snarky designers are doing by not giving your attention to DST. You are losing business and customers by not enthusiastically supporting a venue that is cheap and popular with customers. It is one of the first places a beginning digital scrapbook might find, and the first one where a beginner can ask questions that are not store specific.

Stupid for those of you who want more business.

Get back to DST if you want to increase sales. And take a look at your photo - you don't have to be a beauty queen, but make your avatar photos look decent.

Anonymous said...

I am not a fan of hexagons either, have seen some pages where they've done a nice job. I am not one of those people, lol.

Anonymous said...

#79- Let me guess you "work" for DST.

Anonymous said...

Not hardly, but I guess I should have expected that to be the first comment.

I am watching some of my favorite designers giving away the store and it pisses me off they are shitting in their own backyards.

Anonymous said...

#79
And take a look at your photo - you don't have to be a beauty queen, but make your avatar photos look decent.
-------------------
Agreed, some of the avatars are downright scary!

Anonymous said...

Oh it's boring again and more active. Now that says a lot, doesn't it?

Trend I would like to see go away? The trend to ask about trends, favorite designers, etc. There's always going to be a trend that some people hate and others love, the same with designers.

Why do we have to ask this stupid question every three months or so?

Anonymous said...

Yes, complaining of boredom is a sure marker of the unintelligent.

I wondered if customers realize how perilously close to closure their favorite stores might be?

Anonymous said...

#85 - trotting out cliches is even more so.

Besides, I never said I was bored, I said it was boring, distinct difference, but I don't expect you to get that.

Anonymous said...

I wondered if customers realize how perilously close to closure their favorite stores might be?
-----

For instance?

Anonymous said...

Post from Traci Reed on Facebook:
"Dudes, if you haven't checked out the prizes for the Sweet Shoppe Summer Games yet, here's a post with a round up of all the AMAZING prizes from SSD, our Sponsors AND our CASH prizes!"

Really?! Dudes?! What is she... in middle school? And even the kids don't use it when addressing a group of primarily GIRLS/WOMEN.

Anonymous said...

I say dude a lot. But I work with construction workers all day.

Anonymous said...

Saying dude is fine but when your promoting a store event not so much. Then again it is SSD. What did you expect?

Anonymous said...

#85- I agree. A5D is on its last legs.

Anonymous said...

IMO, A5D made a big mistake when they stopped doing challenges.

Anonymous said...

A5D - I thought we were talking favorite stores. Although, considering that people have been talking about this store closing for almost two years now and it's still going ...

Anonymous said...

How the hell do Sweet Shoppe keep getting away with infringements. Janet Phillips new template set has the Olympic rings on one template as well as the product title.

Seriously Sweet Shoppe, your not above the law, whether you think you are or not.

Anonymous said...

I hope you reported the infringement to the Olympic Committee. They are very strict and sift to take action.

Anonymous said...

*swift

Typing too fast - pun intended

Anonymous said...

#95 I did. Normally I would just ignore it and stay out of this sort of thing. But this is blatant infringement that goes against the IOC trademark.

How the hell are new designers supposed to get it right when we have one of the so called top stores repeatedly breaking the rules.

Anonymous said...

Kate Hadfield did draw the rings too.

Anonymous said...

OMG - you've got to be kidding. You're reporting someone because of 5 rings??!! Get a life!

Anonymous said...

You get a freaking life! It's not just 5 rings. It's a logo that is trademarked to the IOC.

Anonymous said...

kate's rings were not linked together. they came separately in the kit i believe.

Anonymous said...

If you look at Kate's preview, there are 2 sets of rings. 1 up the top that is clearly not linked, and another down the bottom that is mostly hidden.

Then look at the layouts:

http://www.the-lilypad.com/store/images/D/jordan-07.jpg

http://www.the-lilypad.com/store/images/D/stacy-05.jpg

http://www.the-lilypad.com/store/images/D/suzy-12.jpg

Three layouts with the rings linked exactly the same.

There are linked rings in that pack.

Anonymous said...

They are not joined together. You can even tell in the preview. There are no linked rings. Unless you've bought the kit and can tell me for sure that there's linked rings. Which I don't think you've done. So bored with toast you're just looking to start shit where there is none.

Anonymous said...

I thought this was good info for all small businesses.. Any usage connected or directly or indirectly referencing to the Olympics will be fined....

http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-06-14/dont-mess-with-the-lord-of-the-olympic-rings

Anonymous said...

I meant connected to, directly or indirectly referencing...

Anonymous said...

Does it ever occur to contact the designer with this information before turning them in? At least giving them the chance to take the product down before you ruin their business?

Anonymous said...

SSD has been contacted before about their infringements. They ignore it.

They need to learn a lesson.

Anonymous said...

Kate's had the rings joined and then she removed them and did them separate. I assume because she was informed they were protected and she didn't know so she changed them. Looks like her ct pages were done before she removed them.

Anonymous said...

In any case, designers should google first before using logos in their design or ask someone knowledgeable about these things. It is better to steer clear and not put them in there rather than getting blasted or worse, fined.

Anonymous said...

Dawn Inskip is also guilty of infringing on the Olympics trademark. The torch in her kit uses the logo for the 2012 London Games.

http://www.london2012.com/

Anonymous said...

She also has the rings on the top bubble/flair. Is that infringment? Maybe not if they are not linked but is it ok if not linked but not ok if they are?

Anonymous said...

How is it that someone who is "relatively attractive" be married to a man who is also relatively attractive have the most God awful looking children?

Anonymous said...

I'm not sure but I think it is not OK since it directly refers to the Olympics. I think even the word olympics cannot be used. I did not read through it but this should answer some of your questions.

http://www.london2012.com/about-us/our-brand/using-the-brand/

Anonymous said...

This is a direct copy of the logos/marks that cannot be used

1. What are the protected Games' Marks?
All of the official names, phrases, trade marks, logos and designs related to the 2012 Games and the Olympic and Paralympic Movements (collectively referred to as the 'Games' Marks') are protected by law in a variety of ways.

The following are some of the current items that make up the Games' Marks:

The Olympic Symbol
The Paralympic Symbol
The London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Emblems
The London 2012 mascots
The word 'London 2012'
The words 'Olympic', 'Olympiad', 'Olympian' (and their plurals and words very similar to them – eg 'Olympix'
The words 'Paralympic', 'Paralympiad', 'Paralympian' and their plurals and words  very similar to them – eg 'Paralympix'
The Olympic Motto: 'Citius Altius Fortius' / 'Faster Higher Stronger'
The Paralympic Motto: 'Spirit in Motion'
The Team GB logo
The ParalympicsGB logo
The British Olympic Association logo
The British Paralympic Association logo
london2012.com (and various derivatives)
The London 2012 sports pictograms

Anonymous said...

Does that mean we cannot use the words Olympics???? WOW.

Anonymous said...

If it is for commercial use, yes you can't use it. I read through the FAQ and they clearly state guidelines of using their brand.

If it's for non-profit, meaning you are showing enthusiasm about the games, you are welcome to do so.

Anonymous said...

Kate Hadfield did draw the rings too.

-----

and she removed them very quickly too.

Anonymous said...

OMG - you've got to be kidding. You're reporting someone because of 5 rings??!! Get a life!
------

You are on a smack blog, telling someone to get a life is the height of hypocrisy and the most idiotic and moronic of comebacks too.

Anonymous said...

Does it ever occur to contact the designer with this information before turning them in? At least giving them the chance to take the product down before you ruin their business?
----

No. They should do their research first, that's what a 'business' does.

Anonymous said...

How is it that someone who is "relatively attractive" be married to a man who is also relatively attractive have the most God awful looking children?
------

Because it's not just about the parents. That's basic genetics. Duh.

Anonymous said...

Because the world can't handle that much beauty in one person and God knew that so he made sure that attractive "genes" repel each other in the baby making process. Were you asking about your own kid? Are they butt ass ugly?

Anonymous said...

Maybe they have someone who is ugly in the family?

Anonymous said...

Then Traci Reed must have some ugly ass relatives!

Anonymous said...

#123- Thank you for saying it first.

Anonymous said...

Wow, that's really low, smacking on kids.

Anonymous said...

Maybe they have someone who is ugly in the family?
-------

Certainly the person who is smacking on the kids has someone ugly in their family, themselves.

Anonymous said...

Wow, that is pretty low. Very true, but low.

Anonymous said...

There's nothing wrong with her kids. They look like kids.

Anonymous said...

How is it that someone who is "relatively attractive" be married to a man who is also relatively attractive have the most God awful looking children?
---------

I don't know, why do you?

Anonymous said...

#127- It was nice of you to admit that it was "very true". Adding but low doesn't make it any better.

Anonymous said...

I do believe this blog has reached a new low. I mean really?????? Now you post about children being ugly. Someone needs to get a life!!

Anonymous said...

so since SSD is having their contest made me think...what would you like to see from a contest? what kind of prizes and should they have to buy the stores kits? How to keep it fair? Everytime a contest comes around there are complaints about it so wondering what you all thing would make a contest a good one

Anonymous said...

I don't see anything wrong with Traci's kids, either, and I'm usually the first one to call out an ugly baby. Her entire family looks normal looking including her and her husband.

As far as contests, I think it's 100% fair to require products only sold in the hosting site's store - especially if there are freebies available.

The prizes should be big and plentiful. There are lots of vendors out there who donate prizes for the exposure. There is no reason not to contact them. I really like that SSD is giving cash prizes with the funds from the sale of the collab kit. I think that's a great marketing tool and gives the designers exposure and the site benefits from a generous image. I also love the all-access pass and all the gift certificates to their own store.

I, personally, like the prizes at SSD better than Iron Scrapper at SO. More people have a chance at winning some great prizes instead of the only real draw being ONE person winning a DSLR. Let's face it, the other prizes at SO suck and the winners don't even win SO products. They have some sad consolation prizes ($10, really?) that seem like an afterthought.

Isn't the entire point of a contest to get your products into scrappers hot little hands? SO has really lost touch, IMO. Sure, you could buy their grab bags every week for $4 and the store and designers make some money (which I'm all for), but wouldn't it be great if the contest prizes included products from Scrap Orchard?

To me, SSD understands what gets people motivated for a contest - lots of chances at winning great prizes. Not one person winning the only prize worth playing for.

Anonymous said...

133-To me, SSD understands what gets people motivated for a contest - lots of chances at winning great prizes. Not one person winning the only prize worth playing for.

I totally agree. I'm not taking part in either contest by the way.

It is really sad to see kids being smacked. That does seem pretty low.

Hey MAYA (SBG):

This kind of thing could completely ruin our store's reputation, and the
legal ramifications could be disastrous dear!!!!!I am worried that you do not have a good grasp on the laws surrounding copyright...

#133 - I agree 100%. I thought the prizes for Iron Scrapper sucked except for the DSLR and I wasn't about to attend countless speedscraps, chats, etc on top of making layouts just for a CHANCE to win it.

Anonymous said...

I like that SO is for points and it's a random draw - instead of a popularity contest which is what voting contests always and up being.

Where does it say SSD is giving cash prizes?

Anonymous said...

I agree with 140. At least I have a chance to win the SO contest - I would have no chance at all with the SSD contest so why would I even enter?

How can a designer get away with putting so much into a kit and selling it so cheap? Is it the effect of mass producing cheap kits and getting the money or what? Quality designers get overlooked it seems with the others putting their stuff so big and cheap! Is this a case of quantity over quality? The rest of her stuff is the same!

I wouldn't worry about it - if you hadn't included a link, I don't think anybody here would have even known what you were talking about. Once I saw the god-awful header, I knew there was nothing there for me.

Secret Stash closing in a week, though, now that is news! Somebody on here said they thought she was one of the highest paid designers of all (not just SO). I just checked to see what I had of hers, and I have 5 kits - none of them has been used, and I can't think why I might have bought them. I probably got them from the Farmer's Market.

Anonymous said...

ha! Traci's kids. i have thought that same think every time i see a photo of them. they are not very attractive. but they aren't the only ones. through my scrapping years i have seen quite a few ugly children. have you seen aaron's (sirscrapsalot) kids? ugh.

Those kits have 300+ elements because they include many many many recolored elements, in every single color of the swatch. The "fun" fact is that every kit has the same buttons, ribbons, flowers etc, just in different colors! It's insane! I always end up deleting all this junk, and I keep just the themed elements. So the price is reasonable for just a pack of elements!

Another "fun" fact: her store at SBG was already closed on 7/31. Some kind of misunderstanding with Maya?
