YES! And that is exactly why this blog needs to be here, because we are prevented from having such conversations at DST, our so-called 'conference center' for all things digi. We need a place where we can be honest about people's quality or customer service skills or kit sizes or pricing or whatever it is without being censored.

Yep. It's been said over and over. But there are too many designers out there who will never get it. So, the "smack" blogs will continue to thrive.

Along with people who tell us we all just want to 'bitch' and 'bash' for the sole purpose of hurting other people.

Has there ever been a designer who actually 'retired' for good? I honestly can't think of one who hasn't come back.
-----------

While some of these did "retire" and come back, the next time they didn't come back

Denise Docherty
Jen Caputo
Debra Tope
Karen Hunt
Kim DeSmet
Nicole Hinrichs
Robyn England
Lisa Whitney
Natalie Braxton
MandaBean
Phuong Thon
ON Designs
SaraAmarie
Ursula Schneider

There are more, but that's all I could come up with right now

Yeah, well, if she had a 'goodbye sale' she'd get smacked for doing that too. Doesn't matter what designers do, someone will smack them for it.
-----

No she wouldn't and no, not all designers get smacked, only those who deserve it. Get a grip.

There is no quota at SBG.
------

Yes there is.

Julie if you're here reading and posting there - the DCR- what makes you think others don't as well? Don't assume just because we haven't come out and said oh I'm on the smack blog that means we haven't said what we think to your "face".

Blaming your lack of sales on other designers freebies is a total cop out. People buy kits every day. I download freebies and I buy. I'll download a freebie kit that I wouldn't buy, because all I need to like in a free kit is one thing, I can delete the rest and it's cost me nothing. If I'm paying for a kit, I need to make sure it's worth my money. I went to look at Julie's freebie kit, so I could tell her which piece I downloaded it for, but I didn't download it. Boring patterns and a bunch of ugly gray elements? Pass. I did download Just Jaimee and Gennifer's. Although, as with most free stuff, it's in a folder somewhere I'll probably never go back too.

8-I also download the freebies for one part of it. I discard the rest if I don't like it.

this place is dead

Exactly. What is it? Because I am saying there is not one at all.

It's more of an unwritten sales quota. If designer X is making $2500 a month and someone is making less than $3-400, they will more than likely be asked to leave.

Anonymous said...

So you are saying that it is around $3-400, give or take?

Anonymous said...

So, if there is at least one designer making $2500 a month, others have to follow suit or close? Even a $300 quota is pretty big. I always wonder if new designers joining are making that "unwritten sales quote" from the get go, or how long they have to reach it before being asked to leave (if that is the scenario).

#14- Why do you think there is a huge turnover at SBG. Maya expects the best. Sales included.

Anonymous said...

I guess anyone NOT making that quota when they start could become Maya's intern? Or junior member (as I have seen before)?

Anonymous said...

I don't think the turnover at SBG is as much due to failure to meet quotas as people finding better shops/opportunities.

KCB used to be at SBG-I bought from her a lot back then. Now that she's at SSD, not so much. Rarely, if ever, actually.

While i can't stand SSD, I'm sure it was a better move for her sales wise.

Anonymous said...

When was KCB at SBG? Just curious.

Lauren Greir getting a bit desperate, she has a buy my store for $40 - her personal store.

Anonymous said...

Exactly. What is it? Because I am saying there is not one at all.

Why are you saying that?

New owner of SM: Amber LaBau (Stolen Moments Designs). I, for one, am excited to see how things change there as I like SM for the most part.

Anonymous said...

hopefully her first change is that bingo card mess. What a pain!

Anonymous said...

23- What bingo card mess?

Anonymous said...

Blog Train Blog submissions? Gross, gross, gross...don't any of these designers understand color and contrast? It's one big fat, flat, dark MESS.

Anonymous said...

While I agree there needs to be a LOT more light accents in the blog train, I actually think most of the mini's look pretty good. Haven't DL'ed any yet for a closer look, though.

Is DHD an exclusive store?
