May 2013

I've downloaded a dozen zips from the Digiscrap Parade Blog Train and I'm happy with what I downloaded.  Judging from the previews I've seen of the next DST Blog Train, I say the Digiscrap Parade blog train is a 100% improvement.  Well done contributors, I'll be looking forward to the next one!

What does everyone else think about it ?  Any gripes or praise you'd like to dish out ?

The best blog train ever. Thank you to all who took the time to make freebies for us. You should all open a store together and rule the world. Well done.

Anonymous said...

^^^^^ I agree!!

Anonymous said...

......and so do I!

Anonymous said...

Fantastic train I agree! - were there requirements for this train? all are fairly popular designers in big stores... none of the *new* or errr.... "less-known" designers in it

#4 here, just had a derp moment and clicked that all are from ssd/sm/tlp/tdc

Link please :)

I think it's mostly really cute, I'm very happy with it! However, I have no idea why The Digichick was included, I don't think I downloaded most of their stuff, yuck! And what happened to Scrap Orchard? Are they not a "top tier" store anymore?

Anonymous said...

Looks like SO chose not to participate and do their Technogeek one instead.

Anonymous said...

ITA about TDC. I didn't think their products "went" with the overall feel that the other designers provided.

No offense but if these are the "top designers" from the "top stores" in our business, why can't they afford to host their own freebies instead of making us go through a store to get them?

Anonymous said...

#7 Thanks :)

Anonymous said...

ITA about most of the TDC designers, many of them make such dark and grungy stuff so I passed many up. But there were a few that fit my style and I downloaded those. I liked Wishing Well Creations, Quirky Twerp, Kellie Ratzlaff, Chrissy W, Etc. by Danyale, and Sarah J. I will use those.

Anonymous said...

Since when is this a product that someone sells in a shop for more than a penny? SMH that people will buy this. http://pixelsandcompany.com/shop/Spring-Sweetness-Enamel-Dots.html

Anonymous said...

I guess tastes differ - I found some of the pale entries insipid and didn't download them. I wouldn't say they had no place in the parade, though.

Anonymous said...

Judging from the previews, the blog train products look much better than any other blog train. I haven't unzipped yet, but downloaded almost everything. Some from designers I've never encountered, so we'll see if I keep those.

Even though these are the top shops, the same issues plague this train like the other, "amateur" ones - designers who don't have enough bandwidth (which, I agree, everyone should have their own hosting at "this level"), designers who still don't have their contribution posted, etc.

I thought it was strange SO is affiliated, but didn't participate. I'm not surprised they chose not to for the initial launch, though. Why do the work up front when you can ride off everyone else later? It's their store motto.

Anonymous said...

I downloaded almost everything. The handful of offerings that I passed up on I knew I would never use - not my style. Still, this is probably the best blog/FB train I've seen that wasn't affiliated with only one store. I am eager to organize and start looking at the quality from the new (to me) designers.

Think it was brilliant to do this just before NSD so all these designers will have that many more fans on FB to see their sales and stuff before the weekend.

Anonymous said...

I agree 15 - designers need to be paying for hosting either on their own site or through paid Dropbox or something like that. Using 4shared and Mediafire is so 5 years ago, and I won't touch downloads from there because of viruses. Running out of bandwidth on day 1 is pretty bad too, when you can get good hosting for a very low monthly fee like $5 or less!

Even so, this blog train blows all others out of the water IMO.

Anonymous said...

I downloaded quite a few kits from the new That's Life collab, & everything has been nice so far. Thank you to the designers that participated, I appreciate the chance to try out your stuff. :)

Anonymous said...

I'm only downloading about 1/4 of it. The rest is either not my style or the colors are blah or I already have a dozen other things that look just like it. The quality appears good though, and I'm glad to see an alternative to the DST train (though there are other trains out there that aren't nearly as bad as that one).

Anonymous said...

can't get on pixel and co website. :(

Anonymous said...

@19 - 1/4 of it the colors are ok, but the other 3/4 they aren't?

Anonymous said...

17 - ITA Love most of what was in the train (by far the best I've seen in quite a while), but come on. Get your own hosting for cripes sake! You're supposed to be the best in the business.

I know several designers not in "top shops" that have their own hosting. Surely the creme de la creme can host their own downloads

Anonymous said...

21 - Do people just not read anymore? 19 said 3/4 of it was EITHER NOT THEIR STYLE OR the colors were blah.

Even with a good palette you can still fuck up the color scheme by either making it too grungy, light, or over saturated, etc.

Anonymous said...

I agree it's better by miles that the DST train. There aren't any that really make me flinch and wonder what the heck the designer was thinking.

However, I don't find it to be very special. The colors are nice, but the contributions are just same old same old. I did not download anything, and will not.

It is very certainly not 'the very best' design work I've ever seen.

Anonymous said...

^says a bitter designer who wasn't included and wasn't going to scrap with it anyway

Anonymous said...

Nope. Says a customer who has hundreds of kits and can't see what makes this one so special.

What is the big deal about Snips and Snails Designs? I've purchased and I think he designs are really ugly but she is getting in really known stores...

Anonymous said...

You think the designs are ugly but you purchased them?

Anonymous said...

29 I didn't realize until I got closer look! Sue me for trying out a new designer!

Anonymous said...

Did you see Just Jaimee is guesting at TLP. Wonder if that will go anywhere...

Anonymous said...

If I were a subscriber I would be horribly disappointed with this month. I found several of those quite awful

Anonymous said...

#31 Just Jaimee just opened her shop at Pixels & Co. less than a month ago, so my guess is that she already had the guest spot at TLP arranged (while she was selling at TwoPeas before they closed). I assume she'll stick with Pixels & Co. unless her sales just end up being horrific. It's a lot of trouble to repackage that many times...

Anonymous said...

#13 Looks like she is trying to jump on the popularity of some paper products. My Mind's Eye makes those enamel dots and they are really really popular in paper scrapping. Not sure they work as a stand-alone digi product though. Maybe if they were included with a larger element set?

Anonymous said...

Yin Designs stuff feels like such a rip off. Like really, it's just a bunch of squares scattered around the page. Must say I love Crossbone Cuts kit - if only I had a girl!

Anonymous said...

Love the blog train/hate the slow Pixels & Co site!!

Anonymous said...

Agreed - NSD hasn't even started yet and their site already takes half an hour to load?

Anonymous said...

I think the Digi Files this month are OK, better than last month's at least. I love the princess kit . Must say I'm disappointed with Blagovesta's though. Her color palettes are all so similar!

Anonymous said...

Oh the irony - I HATE the princess kit and Blagovesta is one of only 2 I like (Ju's being the other). To each his own, I guess.

Anonymous said...

I loved the photoshop tips on the Pixels and Co train and the kit is pretty cute, but OMG it's slow.

I thought Snips and Snails stuff looked cute in a preview too...that kit she did with Mari Koegelenberg stands out, but her actual stuff is AWFUL! I think her being in a good shop is a clear case of the store owner glancing at previews and not actually downloading or attempting to scrap with her work.

Anonymous said...

39 - I'm with you. My least favorite was the princess kit and I loved Ju's best, Blagovesta's second.

Anonymous said...

If I'd known Pixels and Co was going to be so slow, I'd never have even started their blog train. It's frustrating and way too time consuming.

Anonymous said...

re The Digi Files: I like this month's stuff except for Yin Designs (the templates). They're not my style and they're boring--just a background layer with a bunch of photo layers. This month's stuff is much better than last month's, so I guess I'm happy.

what do y'all think about this month's MSA Pres. Pass kit? I like it a whole lot better than Gina's contribution last month. http://www.myscrapbookart.com/xcart/product.php?productid=17552

Anonymous said...

P&Co is down, not just slow.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know any details on specials at TLP? I am probably being blind missing them but can't find them either way!

Also, on the MSA kit - must say, in comparison to previous months, it's decent - not my kinda colors though but good to see something actually worth paying a few dollars for.

Anonymous said...

43, this month's is still not something I'd ever use, but it's significantly better than the crap Gina threw out last month.

Anonymous said...

I love the kit at MSA and I agree, way better than last month!

Anonymous said...

Come on, Gen. Get your site together. This isn't your first rodeo.

Anonymous said...

I could do without the religious word art, but it's definitely a step in the right direction. The only thing I liked in the digi files was Allison Pennington's kit. Those templates look like a total rip off from a free template blogger, I can't remember her name though. Amanda maybe? How orginal can a template really be though.

Gennifer said...

I'm definitely embarrassed, 48. We've done what we can, but the rest will have to wait until the middle of the night so we can pull the site down temporarily.

Anonymous said...

Good luck with the site Gennifer.

Anonymous said...

You all might have heard this, but Archivers has filed for bankruptcy. I something that an Archiver's employer said about things that are facing the paper scrapbooking industry right now. The paper scrapbookers are 'aging' customers between the ages of 35 and upwards towards 60.
Younger people don't scrapbook their memories in the same way...they have facebook & social media to store their memories.
I'm closer to 60 than 35 so I fall in that range myself.
Also digital scrapbooking & hybrid scrappers have changed the scrapbooking industry too.
I was wondering what the age range is here for digital scrappers.

Anonymous said...

I just got Bella Gypsy's newsletter. They broke up their kits into separate paper and element packs for the Farmer's Market. SMH. I want kits for a buck. Not packs for a buck each. I'm not trying to be stingy. It's just that, for the past few years, I've expected awesome prices on *kits*, not on packs. I'd rather the Farmer's Market be advertised as kits for $2 than $1 for each coordinating pack. Packs make me think of a stolen car thats' been chopped to make more money on its parts.

Anonymous said...

Anyone else think the colors and theme of this weeks Bella gypsy new release reeks of the digiscrap parade?

Anonymous said...

Uh, the digiscrap parade used all the colors of the rainbow. And the theme was basically life. As much as I enjoyed the *train* it's not a new or original color/theme....

Anonymous said...

@52 - I'm 38. @Gennifer, you're doing the best you can, take it as a sign that people are really interested and that's awesome. @49, do you mean Yin's templates? She's been doing those herself and giving them away for free for years. I have one of hers that's dated 2009. But yeah, there's a MandaGirl or something who also does free ones that are pretty similar.

Anonymous said...

#52- Anywhere from 15 to over 60. I think there are more younger people that do digital than paper. Most people think of paper scrapping as being something old people do. Digital scrapbooking seems to be more hip to the younger people. Just like with Archivers, there have been many digital stores that have closed also. It happens alot.

Anonymous said...

Here's the article about Archiver's files for bankruptcy:

http://www.startribune.com/business/205494291.html?refer=y

Anonymous said...

Lots of stores have closed over the last year. Digital and Paper stores. I know a few digital designers that buy paper supplies from Archiver's to make things to extract for their kits.

Anonymous said...

Farmer's Market open. Nothing really special there - annoys me also that they've split kits into packs - Chelle's kids one is cute and if it wasn't split up, I'd buy it but other than that... My first farmers market, I went nuts and bought over $100 worth and they were full kits etc... the last few I've seen have just been meh.

On saying that, I do like those Brick templates by mleCard. Very cute. Pity I have no use for them! Only thing that really seemed original to me.

Anonymous said...

#60- They are more like mini-mini kits. Last years was just horrible.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the best of the best were even in the Parade. There were some great designers from those stores who did not participate.

Anonymous said...

62- like who??

Anonymous said...

#63- Sahlin Studio, Allison Pennington, CD, Darcy Baldwin, Heather Hess are just a few. Heather and Darcy have really good fonts. I would have loved to see them included.

Anonymous said...

#64. With everyone getting ready for NSD, there were a lot of designers that just didn't have the time. I am sure some of those designers will participate next time. It is totally voluntary so the designers participating will always be changing.

Anonymous said...

I am shocked and a bit saddened by the whole "I expect full kits for $1" mentality being voiced here. Do you think these designers' time is not worth more than $1? They have to make a living, you know!

I wasn't going to shop the Farmer's Market, but now I think I will. And I will happily spend my $2 for Bella Gypsy's two packs to get the whole kit. It's still a huge discount and for you to expect more than that is just gross.

Anonymous said...

And no, before anyone says it. I am not Bella Gypsy, not on their CT and in no way affiliated with SO. I just think the entitled attitude of people above me is horrid.

Anonymous said...

My point was the farmers market used to be awesome. A huge portion of what I spent would go there. Now it's not worth it. There was one kit divided up into at least 4 pieces. I'm sorry but that's NOT a huge discount. That's almost the normal new release day discount. This is meant to be something special.

Anonymous said...

I agree with this. After the stupid techno geek fiasco and now their ripoff Farmers Mkt I m getting to the point where I don't even want to look at their site. I still love Kristin Aagard though!

--
Oh, get off your high horse. I don't think any of us feel entitled to anything as most of us BUY stuff all the time. A good sale is fun though and the Farmers Mkt just isn't one anymore. A kit broken up in several pieces and sold like that is not some great bargain.

Anonymous said...

66/67 - nobody here has a bad attitude about anything. If people here feel entitled to kits for a $1, it's only because SO taught us all to expect it. The past few years, that's what Farmer's Market was and it's how I discovered SO actually. Yes now people view it as them becoming stingy, but that's their fault not ours.

Anonymous said...

64 - I heard that all designers from those 5 shops were allowed to participate, and some chose not to because they were too busy or whatever other reason. I also heard that a lot of SO designers all accepted the invitation and then weren't allowed to do it because Kami wanted them to do the SO Techno Geek thing instead. SMH.

Anonymous said...

I'm kind of disappointed with Farmer's Market too because the designers I'm looking forward to the most have not put in their best work in there. Some of the stuff in there looks like it should be retired. The new kits are nice though. I think I may pick up a few kits even though they're broken up.

When kits are broken up, do you pick up all parts or just some? I usually pick up the papers and the elements, but recently I feel like I can make a lot of the papers, so I just get the elements instead.

Anonymous said...

Can we have the Creative Pixel in the list of stores please? the Creative Pixel = tCP

---------------
I'm not on a high horse. I just think designers deserve to make a living and deserve more than a buck for a full kit. And a "kit broken into several pieces" was not what you (or PP) were bitching about. The rant was specifically about a kit broken into TWO pieces. That is not several. And $2 is still a significant savings over the regular price of a full kit at SO.

And this statement:

I want kits for a buck. Not packs for a buck each.

Sure sounds like entitlement to me.

#71, I'll give you that maybe it's their own fault for training the customers to expect full kits for $1. I'm assuming they've changed because it's ridiculous to sell a full kit for $1. Time to suck it up or appear well less than appreciative if one must bitch and moan about a full kit being priced for $2. I'm happy to get a kit for 1/3 the cost it normally is.

Anonymous said...

I was wondering what the age range is here for digital scrappers.
--------------------------------
50 here and digi scrapping for about 3 years now.

Anonymous said...

I'll admit the first word that came to my head when I was going through the Farmer's Market was "stingy". I have shopped it the last few years and this year is definitely lack luster. Lots of old FB freebies we already have, super old kits that I already have, and then there's that beach collab that has a really bad color palette. Bella Gypsy seems to make the same kit over and over in different colors.

If you're not going to do full kits for the $1 price, it seems less stingy to do minis, like the ones Kristen Aagard has, than to break everything into 3 or 4 kits. But I usually spend $15 to $20 at the Farmer's Market and I'm not buying anything this year. (I know, not hundreds but that's my budget.)

For SO's sake, I hope that other people are more like 75. I'm just SO disappointed with them lately.

Anonymous said...

At SO all they are doing is the farmer's market? No other sale off existing prices? That is ridiculous! I had stuff in my wish list but now that nothing else is on sale I won't be buying there at all

Anonymous said...

Well I thought the Farmer's Market at SO had some great deals. There were full kits and lots of templates for only $1.00.

Anonymous said...

75 - Why do designers "deserve" to make a living? That's a ridiculous statement.

---
The Farmer's Market is Pavlovian: when people hear "SO's Farmer's Market!" they automatically start salivating at the idea of kits for a doller. NOT packs for a buck each. SO designers have shot themselves in the foot this time around because people are grumbling.

And frankly, I don't give a shit what *you* think a designer's time is worth. If a designer sells at SO, I bet you it's in the contract that the designer has to participate in the FM. Therefore, if a designer sells at SO, then she expects to make a brand new KIT that will, for one long weekend only, sell for a dollar. And then, guess what: it goes to full price. So quit your bitching about the designers' time vs. money. I bet they sell a ton more on this weekend to "make up" for any money they may have lost. (You seem to forget this is DIGITAL scrapping, which means they can upload ONE KIT to the server and then sell THOUSANDS of copies.) And did you notice that the regular price for each of Bella Gypsy's new packs is $3.49 each? That means to make a kit (buying both paper and elements, not including "extra" packs) is $6.98. Their current new releases are $6.49. So not only are they making customers pay more during FM, they're making you pay more in order to make yourself a full kit.
While you may be concerned about the designers' time and their financial security, I'm worried about how greedy--and sneaky--some designers are getting.

Anonymous said...

One improvement SO made to the Farmer's Market was breaking it up so that you could search for CU items separately. So much better than having to sort through everything to find the CU stuff.

Anonymous said...

I am happy that some of WM[squared]'s Great Escape items are in the FM. I would never pay full price for them (cuz I can make half that stuff myself if I weren't so lazy lol), so getting them for a $1 a pack makes me feel like I'm getting a good deal (unlike the $1 element and paper and alpha packs. *sigh*)

Anonymous said...

Agreed that if nothing else is on sale, I likely won't be shopping at SO. There are about 5 of Kristin Aagard's kits I would LOVE to buy, but not at full price. Yes, she deserves to be paid well for her work, but not on a weekend that's supposed to be sales nirvana.

Anonymous said...

Saying designers deserve to make a living is entitlement. Saying you want something is just wanting something, not expecting it.

Anyone who uses that "designers deserve to make a living" statement is clueless as to how much some of these designers make selling items for $1. You see $1 and you think it's such a low amount, but add that up with the hundreds of customers who buy that $1 item. If you're not selling hundreds of an item at a store like SO, you're not making anything people want to buy.

I don't sell at one of the self-described best stores in digiland, but I sell hundreds of almost everything I make. If I can and they can't, they don't belong at SO. Not saying that I do, because I don't want to (I can't stand Kami), but really, you need to get a clue about what designers make.

Rarely post here but agree with the assessment of SO's Farmer's Market. Generally spend at least some $$ there- but not this year.

Anonymous said...

So, where are the best sales?

Anonymous said...

87 - People say this every year and every year I still find something I want and for $1 you can't beat it.

Anonymous said...

55- I call BS. The fact that the kit is LIFE themed and a rainbow and released at the same time as the blog train...not a coincidence.

Weird to copy theme and colors

Anonymous said...

88- I shopped at the $2/spot at TDC. Haven't seen great sales at TLP or SSD yet

Anonymous said...

Anything cool other than sales going on this weekend? I looked quickly at DST but not a lot posted there other than sales that I could see. I'm planning to shop a few places, but its always fun to pop in somewhere new for a speed scrap or something. I don't usually have time for that stuff but on NSD I make hubs take the kids and give me computer time!

Anonymous said...

Like this is the first life themed rainbow kit? Get a grip. It wasn't an original idea for any of them. Get over yourselves.

Anonymous said...

89 - I found 2 items and purchased them. Sure, I found something I liked, but I'm quite certain they wish people would find scads of items and not just one or two things.

Anonymous said...

#75 - wtf are you talking about? Bella Gypsy's Hafta Craft kit or whatever IS broken into 4 pieces and is what I was talking about (as #68)

And its not special = I have seen other sites do BYOC for $1 a pack on normal weekends.

Personally, I think it would have been better to break the kit up into 4 co-ordinating minikits rather than packs.

Anonymous said...

Everybody always bitches about SO not have a sale on the whole store during NSD, but every single year they have their birthday sale what, a month before? It's pretty smart of them to not have 2 storewide sales back to back. I love the idea of Farmer's Market and I always spend $$ there. I don't remember them ever putting brand new full kits in FM, only older ones.

Anonymous said...

What's smart is to have a sale when people are ready and willing to spend money.

Anonymous said...

Which is exactly what they're doing.

Anonymous said...

55 and 93 - if Bella Gypsy riding the DigiScrap Parade idea is no big deal - then why the need to name call and be overly defensive?

I think that speaks volumes.

Yin Designs templates for this months' Daily Digi really remind me of Nancy Comelab's templates... which I did buy and use quite a lot of. She retired a while back though.

Anonymous said...

Gah I can't believe people are actually being serious about this Bella Gypsy - Digiscrap Parade crap.

The parade thing is NOT original, no matter how much you try to tell yourself it is. Hell, it matches up with colours from 3 new Becky Higgins Project Life releases - Honey, Jade, and Kraft. I'm also fairly certain that if you actually put some effort in, you will find many digi kits that have a "Life" theme and use a rainbow color palette.

Heck, the colors match what Nettio Designs uses for her templates every time.

If you really want to go on about it - people mentioned various SO designers accepted the invite and then had to participate in the technogeek thing... perhaps BG had already made their piece. I still don't think it's anything to go on about. It's not original and not a new idea.

Anonymous said...

Are we talking about the YOLO kit? Because those horrendous colors bear no resemblance to the subtlety of the train palette. Other than OMG green blue yellow and red.

Anonymous said...

I think we're talking about her 4 new In Real Life products (I'm #103). I think. But YOLO would work too.

Anonymous said...

Since I was one of the ones who complained about Pixels and Co.'s problems yesterday, I must say I just downloaded their "More or Less" and it knocks it out of the ballpark. I thought the "That's Life" collab was really nice; the P&Co. is by far the superior kit for originality, vibrancy and quality. I LOVE IT! Nice work, Ladies, and I'm so glad your site is working AND that the downloads worked without a hitch!

Harper Finch already has 'coming soon' stuff on her Facebook page using CU from the Scrap Orchard dollar sale. The girl is quick. And helped me decide not to buy any of it, unfortunately.

Anonymous said...

Shops that wait until the actual NSD to start their sale should start rethinking that.

I've spent tons over the last 24 hours and now I'm bored of it. That was money that could have easily gone to other stores, but didn't because of the late start.

103 you're obviously not a designer, or else a really shitty one who can't choose colors. The products you listed as having the "same colors" (Becky Higgins, Bella Gypsy, Nettio, and the Digiscrap Parade) don't at all. Yes they are all rainbows in a sense, but if you made them into swatches and lined them up next to each other you'd see how completely and totally different they really are. Unless you're blind, which is what I am hoping because otherwise you are an idiot. I don't think anyone copied off anyone else. Customers like a rainbow. Designers know that. End of story.

"Harper Finch already has 'coming soon' stuff on her Facebook page using CU from the Scrap Orchard dollar sale. The girl is quick"

Yeah, and it shows in the shitty quality that she vomits up. The girl needs to learn some major recoloring skills, what gamut is and how to follow a TOU.

Anonymous said...

She also needs to learn how to put a kit together. A whole bunch of recolored CU does not equal a kit.

Anonymous said...

Ain't that the truth? She basically just flattened KimB's Fiesta templates and called it a Cinco de Mayo kit.

Anonymous said...

109 - You're wrong -- AND an asshole.

The More or Less kit is cute, thank you to the Pixels & Co designers for creating & sharing this. :) My favorites from the kit are the butterfly ephemera card, sequin bow, heart sequins, paperclip with gingham ribbon, & all of the patterned paper with dots/circles.

Yeah, and the fact that owning Photoshop, buying CU and doing shit recolors does not make you a 'designer'. Some of that crap she is regurgitating will hurt your eyes.

Anonymous said...

I'm going to be an asshole. :)
-
Well, at least you know what you are and you definitely ARE one. My guess is you WISH you could design half as well as those who contributed to the kit. You can't so, you're a jerk.

Anonymous said...

And you couldn't even get the code right

Anonymous said...

I just unzipped the P&Co kit. 99.9% awesome. There are two very poorly recolored buttons that stick out like a sore thumb (QQ are the initials on it so assuming Queen of Quirk) like beginner level bad, the exact same button and not any kind of attempt to color the thread differently from the button, just clip a color to it, set it to color or what have you and done. They are just awful! How does something like that get by? Someone has to make the preview and it seems like someone would say that's not acceptable. Certainly won't be purchasing from her anytime soon. The rest though, is very well done and it's a shame to see that in an otherwise wonderful kit.

Anonymous said...

#118, lol!

Anonymous said...

I just did Gingerscraps FB hop. Haven't unzipped anything yet, but I like the palette, and it looks really cute.

Agree the More or Less collab is great!

Anonymous said...

Thank you for posting the code for the P&Co kit :)

Anonymous said...

118 She's actually right. That's the right code.

Anonymous said...

121 Actually no, I'm not a designer and I don't ever wish to be. Lol. I just went through all the blogs and got tired half way through so I posted it for those who are like me.

And for those saying it's the wrong code, quit it. It is the right code. You just have to be logged in to use it

Anonymous said...

Yeah I also think the Ginger Scraps hop is not that bad, but am sure someone will bash it because that is how it goes around here.

Anonymous said...

This isn't the first time the code for a free kit has been posted here from a blog hop.

Anonymous said...

Ever notice that sometimes someone's contribution to a train/facebook hop seems so off that you wonder if they got the same color pallet as everyone else?? Ugh!

Anonymous said...

You have an example 131?

Anonymous said...

I just had a look at the first 15 contributions for the DigiScrap Parade blog train and was so completely uninspired, I can't be bothered looking at the rest.

Anyone care to share their favorites from the train?

Anonymous said...

Anyone know if there is a "Ms" word art in this month's SO mega? https://scraporchard.com/market/May-2013-Mega-Digital-Scrapbook.html

I'm offended they titled the kit "Mr. and Mrs." I didn't take my husband's last name. I'm also offended because I've got wedding photos to scrap of two of my friends getting married. They're both women. I guess SO just wanted to be traditional, but it comes across as stereotypical and prejudicial.

Anonymous said...

I didn't take my husband's last name either, but I still consider myself a Mrs. *shrug*

I never would have considered that some people would find offense in that.

Anonymous said...

128 - You are not correct. There is an error in your asshole-ness.

Queen of Quirk has always had poor quality and items. I'd expect nothing different from this blog train. I stopped buying from her months ago.

Anonymous said...

I'm offended they titled the kit "Mr. and Mrs."
--------

I'm offended by the fact that you are offended by something so trivial.

I'd prefer they get rid of the whole Mr. & Mrs. in the first place, it's archaic and irrelevant in today's world.

I don't see it as being prejudicial in the least and I have a few gay married couples in my circle of friends. The two women are quite happy being called Mrs. & Mrs. or even Mrs. & Mr. sometimes, they think it's a good giggle. The important thing for them was being able to get married legally, not what their married title was going to be.

Anonymous said...

I'm offended they titled the kit "Mr. and Mrs."

If that's the biggest thing you can find to be offended about today, then your life is truly a breeze. Congrats on having it so easy and uncomplicated!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

Anyone care to share their favorites from the train?

Why do you care if you don't like it? Several of us do; you don't. Move right along and find something new to smack. That blog train is so yesterday.

Anonymous said...

I never would have considered that some people would find offense in that.
________
I have found that some people can find offense in just about anything no matter how insignificant or innocuous. These people are usually extremely bored and/or unhappy.

Anonymous said...

132 -- No not really. It's just - having downloaded three trains in the last couple days, going through pages and pages of contributions, sometimes I'd come across one that didn't mesh as well as the rest. I know it shows of peoples various styles and what not, but sometimes it just felt so off that it stood out in my mind. Not really pissy about it - just curious if anyone else ever thought the same thing, lol.

Anonymous said...

Why do you care if you don't like it? Several of us do; you don't. Move right along and find something new to smack. That blog train is so yesterday.
---------

I said I didn't care for the first 15 contributions, I'm not sure how that translates to not liking the whole train. This is why I asked for favorites. Why not take some reading comprehension lessons, your assholiness is so yesterday.

Anonymous said...

I said I didn't care for the first 15 contributions, I'm not sure how that translates to not liking the whole train. This is why I asked for favorites.

Sorry, go look for yourself. Who knows what kind of taste (or lack of) you have. I'm sure what we like would be "uninspiring" to you as well. You're just trying to start shit about the train.

Anonymous said...

I think the Ginger Scraps fb hop is pretty good.

Anonymous said...

The code is wrong BUT it did make me look at the kit and it looks great! So I'm going to get the code now. So the 'asshole' actually just promoted the store.

I also think that this kit is VERY superior to the 'Parade' ... oh, and look, they don't have to call themselves 'the very best' to get me to see that there's some very skilled designers there.

Anonymous said...

145 - wrong again, dumbass. This is from P&Co's owner's stop on the blog hop, in the 2nd paragraph of her post.

"This store (which is called Pixels and Company, or P&Co for short) happens to be my favorite, because it has some of the best designers in the industry. Oh, and it happens to be owned by me."

http://genniferbursett.wordpress.com/2013/05/01/insd-2013-wait-what/

EVERYONE who knows anything about advertising and marketing calls their product the best. It's what you do. Get off your high horse before your ass falls asleep.

Anonymous said...

Holy shit are you KIDDING me? It's one thing to make me go to blogs to find a coupon code, it's another thing to make me scroll through essentially 3 pages worth of text to get it.

Anonymous said...

There's a big difference between 'some of the best' and 'the very best'

I am in marketing for a living. I also study language.

I'm not a high horse, and I'm not alone in my thinking. Some of us are very aversive to elitism. Some of you don't care about it. For my marketing choices, I choose not to create elitism because of that fact - and because it's not necessary.

Anonymous said...

So then just pay $10 for the kit and shut up about it, 147.

LMAO at 146 BTW. Zing! Nicely done.

Anonymous said...

Nowhere on the Digiscrap Parade does it say "they very best" and we've already had this conversation ad nauseum. It says "some of the best designers" in both places. The Parade was just blasted for it because people thought they were being elitist by excluding other shops. Now P&Co is saying the same thing and nobody cares because it's just their own blog train. But it's the same damn thing and it's silly to act otherwise, as though one site said something that the other did not. It's simple marketing, and if you were really "in marketing for a living" 148, you'd know that.

Anonymous said...

So then just pay $10 for the kit and shut up about it, 147.
^^^^
I second this, especially the "shut up" part.

Anonymous said...

Actually, some of the best designers in the industry are at both Pixels and Co. and SSD.

Anonymous said...

There's a big difference between 'some of the best' and 'the very best'

Maybe. The question is: who gives a shit?

Anonymous said...

we've already had this conversation ad nauseum
--
a gross understatement

Anonymous said...

Sorry, go look for yourself. Who knows what kind of taste (or lack of) you have. I'm sure what we like would be "uninspiring" to you as well. You're just trying to start shit about the train.
-----

You don't have to give me any favorites, I'm okay with that, but it seems you are trying to start shit.

If I wanted to start shit I would have something like - I'm amazed anyone can think it's the best train they've ever seen, it's nothing but junk - but I didn't, did I?

Anonymous said...

We have had this conversation, yes, but you forgot that the 'Parade' DID say 'the very best' - just not on their site description (it was in a blog post and has since been changed to 'some of the very best' ... meaning they acknowledge their error)

You'd be surprised, I think, if you did some research on how different groups of people react to the same words. It's not 'silly' it's just a fact.

Just like someone above was offended by Mr and Mrs and others said it was a non-issue. It's not a non-issue to everyone, clearly.

As we all know, you can't please everyone, and there's always going to be groups who are upset at you when you make certain choices - so part of marketing is deciding if you will be offending a big enough group that you should change your approach. The Parade has changed their wording - but for those of us, like me, who are very averse to elitism, it's too little too late.

Anonymous said...

Actually, some of the best designers in the industry are at both Pixels and Co. and SSD.
-----

Actually, no.

Anonymous said...

Maybe. The question is: who gives a shit?

^^^

I give a shit. Other people give a shit or it wouldn't have been discussed so much here.

Just because you don't give a shit doesn't mean no-one else does. It also doesn't mean we can't talk about it anymore.

Anonymous said...

but you forgot that the 'Parade' DID say 'the very best' - just not on their site description (it was in a blog post and has since been changed to 'some of the very best' ... meaning they acknowledge their error)
_____

Show us a screenshot, otherwise one could assume this was all in your head. The header of their site has always said "some of the very best" and that would appear to be their slogan or tagline or whatever you want to call it. I remember looking the day this all came up last time. For you to dig deeper into a single blog post that may or may not have once left out one word, in order to call them all elitist? Sounds to me like you wanted to call them elitist either way. So yes I still think you are a dumbass.

Anonymous said...

The question is: who gives a shit?

The answer is: some people do, as is evidenced by posts on this subject on this blog.

Anonymous said...

K Studio just opened at ScrapMatters. Still wonder what happened with her over at SO... but glad she found a new store.

Nothing happened.

Anonymous said...

I think most "top" stores have at least a couple shining stars in them, including SSD & P&Co.

Anyone disappointed with TLP's BYOC? It seems more scattered than usual. I'm not sure what the palette even was. I just wasn't thrilled with any of it.

Anonymous said...

Actually, no.

What's the matter? Can't get on at either place?
--------

I'm just a customer, nothing more. What a nitwit you are.

Anonymous said...

I count one..you.
------

I'm so glad that you are psychic enough to know that the numerous posts about elitism was just one person. I'm super impressed.

And what's even funnier is that I didn't see it as elitism in the first place, I saw it as marketing.

You really are a silly rabbit, aren't you?

Anonymous said...

It also doesn't mean I can't bitch about you talking about it. Idiot.
------------

You seem fond of calling people idiots. Does it give you a sense of fulfillment?

Anonymous said...

#167 I thought the same thing. Worst BYOC in a long time. It's like everyone used a different color palette.

Anonymous said...

The BYOC is like a bunch of mini collabs and the mini collabs only go with each other and not the whole, which defeats the purpose of the BYOC. They've been doing this for a while but it's usually not as bad as this month.

Anonymous said...

Usually I can find a few things that go together that I like. Not this month. It's a train wreck!

Anonymous said...

There is nothing wrong with having a little pride in your shop designers. I truly believe Gennifer feels she has the best in her shop. Many of them are designers for the big companies, so obviously she probably does have 'some' of the best.

Loved their collab!

Anonymous said...

174 - I'm 146 & 150. I 100% agree with you on all points. I wasn't trying to insinuate that Gennifer was in the wrong for posting what she posted. I was simply trying to point out to some other idiot here on this blog that there's really nothing wrong with saying that something is made up of "some of the best" or "the best" or "the very best" when it comes to marketing. Gennifer did it, and like you said - she does have some of the best at her shop. The Digiscrap Parade did it, too - and I think that those designers are some of the best, and that those shops are some of the best too.

I for real cannot believe that this has become an argument. Sour grapes from people who aren't included in either endeavor, if you ask me.

Anonymous said...

It is sour grapes. Some of these people can't handle that both the P&CO and the Digiscrap Parade collabs have gotten good reviews. People seem to really like both.

Anonymous said...

I think most "top" stores have at least a couple shining stars in them, including SSD & P&Co.
---
Yes, I agree. It's obvious these both have top designers no matter what anybody says.

Anonymous said...

TLP down >.< and someone posted 2 hours ago saying it was down.. sigh.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone know anything about the sale at SSD? Will there be one? How big?

Anonymous said...

I didn't find the whole Parade thing offensive at all. I understand if you're advertising the world's greatest coffee, you probably don't have the world's greatest coffee.

What I find weird is that the Parade was chastised for it, but P&Co is being praised for it. Do some of you realize what hypocrites you are?

I also find it pathetic to have a 35% off sale for iNSD, P&Co. What's in my wishlist will stay there - unpurchased.

Anonymous said...

^^^^ This attitude is just so mean-spirited and it happens so often here. Everyone assumes the worst and then reacts with the worst. Did you notice that a lot of the P&Co designers gave extra discounts to their subscribers? If the store discount alone had been huge, then they wouldn't have had much wiggle room for offering their own personalized specials and discounts.

Or when people give codes or show the previews for the Digi Files. Designers and owners put lots of time and effort into those things hoping for a certain return on investment, whether that's money or followers. Those of you who spoil that for them are being (like the person who shared the code above knows) assholes.

Have you never put your heart and soul into something only for that one rotten apple to come along and screw everything up?

Anonymous said...

What's up with DSA? Is there a blog hop, because I saw a designer advertised that she had a kit there, but I couldn't find it on her blog, and the entire site is down.

Anonymous said...

181 - That's all fine and good for people who follow them everywhere, but I don't want 100s of emails in my inbox or to waste time going through countless posts on my FB feed to find a coupon for 10% off. Put your store on sale for the % you're willing to give it to EVERYONE.

This is what designers need to understand. You can't make customers work to get your products. You need to make it easy - especially on a busy weekend like this one when everyone and their brother is competing for your business.

It's not mean-spirited, it's called running a BUSINESS. I'm not here to be your friend, but I am trying to be a customer. As a designer, you decide why you're putting products in a store for sale.

Anonymous said...

I just got a bunch of May Company Stash at P&Co for a $1 a pack, so there ARE good sales if you look, and they did give away a huge mega as well.

Anonymous said...

Designers don't always have a choice. Sometimes the owner will ask their opinions, other times the sale is what they say and you have no choice but to offer coupons if you are only allowed to offer the sale the store is.

Anonymous said...

Hey 180 - that is a general store discount - no different than many other store sales out there plus they have their $1.00 BYOC which is pretty good if you ask me.

Maybe you should follow the designers at that shop because I know that many of them offer further discounts this weekend.

How can Becky Higgins be a featured designer at The Digi Files this month when she didn't actually create/design the kit being featured? That was created by Nisa Fiin. I mean, I know that Becky created the Project Life concept, but she's not the designer behind ANY of the kits. Doesn't that seem contradictory to what the purpose of TDF is?

Great point. Actually Teresa Collins doesn't or didn't design her stuff either. Unless somethings changed in two years. She had a designer on staff and then slapped her name on product she doesn't create. Makes me wonder about Leeza Gibbons...

Anonymous said...

182 - The blog train doesn't start until tonight, I believe.

DSA is not down, just their front page. Add /forum after the address. Yes, they really should fix that.
