smack away

I hate shopping for CU at a store that isn't all CU. I used to hate it at Scrap Orchard too. Sugar Hill is so easy to shop at because I don't have to sort through crap.

Anonymous said...

I don't think it sounds like Kim is selling the site or giving it away either. It sounds more to me like she had someone named Holly doing all of the work for her so she could design, and now she needs someone new to be the new Holly.

Anonymous said...

Yeah that's her #9. She doesn't design and has literally almost no admin experience whatsoever other than her time at TDC. Kim must be desperate if she's bringing in people who won't have any clue what they're doing.

Anonymous said...

If I was a designer at TDC right now I'd be shopping for a new store and fast.

Anonymous said...

#7 - looks easy enough to me!

Anonymous said...

SMH, who advertises themselves on a smack blog???

Anonymous said...

Not advertising. Just showing how ridiculously easy it is to navigate to what #7 claimed was so difficult and annoying to find. I don't even shop commercial.

Anonymous said...

SMH, who advertises themselves on a smack blog???
___
Oh, get over yourself. If you don't like what someone posts, just say so. No need to shake that pretty little head of yours. I'd bet it's safe to say no one gives a shit if you're appalled, surprised or offended.

Anonymous said...

Pointing out the obvious "Commercial Use" link in a store when people complain it's difficult to find is not advertising. It's exactly the kind of "hey dumbass, it's right here" thing you'd expect on a smack blog. If you want CU stuff at TLP, then click the CU link over in the side. It even has subcategories. Fancy! And no, I don't work for TLP. I just have eyes.

Anonymous said...

^^this^^
Not only that, if you go into the designers shops at TLP they have category filters right there which is very handy to filter products.

Anonymous said...

Please. When someone on this blog complains that they can't easily find what they want in a store, most of us ignore it and don't waste our valuable time going to a site and pulling links just to prove how easy it is. Why would we waste time doing that, if we don't even shop commercial? The only people who care to take the time to prove how easy it is are the people who want you you know how easy it is, just saying.

Anonymous said...

So who gives a rat's ass if it is someone who sells cu. Really.

Anonymous said...

It takes as much time to grab a link as it does to whine about someone else grabbing a link.

True, but poster #4 above isn't the only one who has caught Kimeric embellishing the facts.

Anonymous said...

I once questioned the content of one of Kimeric's CU packs because most of the stuff in it looked exactly like items from Royanna. She had some crazy story about why they looked exactly the same. Never trusted her after that.

Anonymous said...

Kimeric was caught recently(ish) using an SSD designers items in her kits - she tried to say it was an accident

Anonymous said...

If you type in scraporchard.com into your web address bar, it redirects you to TLP.

I would have left any store she owned as soon as that came to light! What kind of store owner does that? Even being an "accident" is unacceptable. Especially for a store owner. They should be above bar on things like that.

^^^^^^^^^^^
It was misconstrued because of all the pointless chatter about 2+ years ago and had absolutely nothing to do with about finding a new admin. It would have had to be someone who didn't have any admin experience to take a job with that kind of advertisement.

Anonymous said...

#31 we saw that coming
As long as Kami only sold the .com to TLP
and isn't following it over there

Anonymous said...

My newsletters from TLP have SCRAPORCHARD at the top also..

Anonymous said...

How considerate for the designers that didn't go to TLP. She sure does care so much about all of them equally.

Anonymous said...

Oh she'll end up at TLP. Just watch.

I mean this is the same woman who jumped into a designer's post about how sad they were that SO was closing to ensure them that SHE was suffering the most. Classy.

Anonymous said...

Where does it say "SCRAPORCHARD" in a TLP newsletter? I'm not seeing it.

Anonymous said...

Kami sure made a mess of the whole thing. She sprung this on the designers just before the holidays? She sent the designers into a tailspin. Way to go Kami. For someone that was supposed to have their backs, that stinks.

Anonymous said...

If she's that bad, then everyone's better off. At this point, what happens at the Lily Pad is certainly not Kami's responsibility. If they take her as a designer there, that's on them not her. It's possible that the owner of the Lily Pad and Kami came to some sort of agreement for her to refer customers to them. It could simply be a good business move on the Lily Pad's part. At any rate, all these ladies are big girls. Kami might well be a jerk, however, she is not responsible in any way for them at this point nor is she obligated professionally or morally to refer customers to the stores they're at now.

Anonymous said...

I mean this is the same woman who jumped into a designer's post about how sad they were that SO was closing to ensure them that SHE was suffering the most. Classy.
___
Yeah, well it could also be construed as she DID feel bad about the whole thing. Period.

Anonymous said...

Really 41? By making it all about her? Right.

It wasn't "I feel bad for doing this to you all", it was "it's ruining MY life, stressing ME out, affecting MY health", blah blah blah. Typical Kami.

Anonymous said...

Well, it's good she closed up shop then...for everyone. Now people who seemingly really, really dislike her can move on like her designers have.

Anonymous said...

43-It has not been easy for the designers to move on.

Anonymous said...

Well, since there's really nothing they can do about what's happened at this point, it would be beneficial to them if they could. They're only hurting themselves if they dwell on all the unfairness, etc. If Kami is how it's been said she is, then, believe me, she's not dwelling on it as far they're concerned anyway.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure she isn't.

Anonymous said...

Vera Lim is gone from the designers list at SSD

Anonymous said...

I don't know why she even started there or said she was going to..she hardly released anything and never participated.

Anonymous said...

Why do designers feel the need to change their designer name? It's hard to try to keep anything organized.

Anonymous said...

Search and replace isn't that hard.

Anonymous said...

I am wondering how many of the same features SSD will add in their new design that TLP did in theirs.

Anonymous said...

Hopefully none! I cannot stand their new site.

_
Who changed their name? I organize by store and then designer so it's no biggie. Most of them tag well so it's easy to find specific elements.

Anonymous said...

What's your opinion on the landing spots of all of the SO designers? Any surprise you?

Anonymous said...

It really surprised me that Kristin Aagard didn't end up at SSD.

Anonymous said...

What's your opinion on the landing spots of all of the SO designers? Any surprise you?
______________________

Bella gypsy with the Lilypad. Still can't work that out.

Anonymous said...

55 - she didn't want to up her prices, that's why she didn't head to SSD. I thought that was a really classy thing to do for her customers.

Anonymous said...

57 - and that has just made me like her even more!!

Anonymous said...

The new SSD is up.

Anonymous said...

That script font makes my eyes hurt.

Anonymous said...

Yeah I don't like it. To be honest I feel like it looks more dated than it did before.

Anonymous said...

What's your opinion on the landing spots of all of the SO designers? Any surprise you?
___________________________________________
Well, I guess they can't count as "landing spots" since they're still guests but some of the guests at TDP from SO. Honestly, after the mass exodus of designers in Spring 2014, the bar got lowered in my opinion for the quality of designers they let in at SO.

The new SSD is up.
____________________________________________
I find the landing page images way too big. It's a lot to take in, you have to scroll for a minute to read all of the information there. But the colors are cute.

Anonymous said...

That script font makes my eyes hurt.
___________________________________________
Yes. With all the beautiful script fonts available, that's what they chose?

Anonymous said...

That font is WAY too thin. You can barely read it. And they're using one of Pantone's colors of the year. Don't really know how smart that was since no one seemed to really like those colors to begin with.

Anonymous said...

I personally think the colors are ok however I don't like that everything is oversized - even the font size for peoples post in forum threads is huge - I've had to zoom chrome out to make it more normal

Anonymous said...

If they were going for really huge and ugly, then they knocked it out of the park.

Anonymous said...

It's amazing they couldn't please absolutely everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

you have to admit though it's really lame that you can only see two products in the store at a time

Anonymous said...

Also surprised that TLP took Bella Gypsy.

Kristin Aagard and maybe Chelle's Creations and Laura B. are the only ones I would have seen possibly going to SSD. Dream Big is okay, but Red Ivy doesn't make sense to me.

Anonymous said...

Red Ivy makes A LOT of sense to go there. Her designs are a welcome addition, imo. Chelle's Creations suck; I can spot 'em a mile away and think they're awful.

I actually agree that seeing only two products at a time is lame. I'd rather have it the other way.

Anonymous said...

The Digiscrap Parade is a hot mess this time around. So many designers don't know how to create direct download links it's embarrassing.

Anonymous said...

Anyone care to show what's in the digifiles this month?

Anonymous said...

Red Ivy @ SSD is a perfect match, what planet you from? Kristin is class act, she cares about her customers, obviously. Chelle retired when SO closed. Dream Big needed to go to TLP and Laura B to TDP. Tracie S. @ SBG curious if they put up with her one kit every 6 months, before she quits again?
The parade is a mess, terrible swatch choice also.
SSD tried to copy TLP platform and turned out a terrible attempt. Digifiles!!! you are still buying into that? SS monthly isn't bad for Feb. DST still has a monthly, Jan. will change to Feb. about the middle of the month. (slow)
and now for the local news. Did you hear.... (to be cont.)

Anonymous said...

What does Kristin being a class act have to do with Red Ivy being a good fit for SSD? I know Chelle retired; I still think her work sucks or sucked...whatever. I think Dream Big fits in with SSD and obviously she feels the same way. She's there. Actually, the Digi Files are the best they've been in a long time, imo. Lastly, since SSD doesn't NEED to copy anyone or anything to be successful, your take that they were doing it to"copy" TLP is ridiculous...kinda like your entire post.

Anonymous said...

Just checked out preview of last months digifiles. probably the worst i have seen. looks like the stuff you find in low end stores.

Anonymous said...

Last month's did suck. There were a bunch of great designers who contributed to a bunch of really mediocre work. Mediocre is being kind too..Some of it was awful.

Anonymous said...

...and I agree 75, it was the worst I've seen from them and that's saying a lot because they've had some bad ones but NONE of those in Jan. were any good. I actually scrapped with the arty one and am going back and redoing with another kit; the ugliness of the papers, etc. detract from my cute photos!

Anonymous said...

Those were horrific.

Anonymous said...

Agreed, there were some great designers, but not one single kit was saved on my hard-drive. It was complete total rubbish.

Anonymous said...

It was complete total rubbish.
____
^^I couldn't have said it better myself!^^

____
In fact, I was going to cancel my subscription if this month's was all garbage too, however, I like most of it.

Anonymous said...

What they should have done rather than match up good designers with rubbish ones is try to get a bunch of store collabs or something, would have been cool.

Anonymous said...

#74 I was replying to #69
be a bitch about it

Anonymous said...

One plus side of SO no longer existing, no stupid Scrapper Bowl or whatever they hell they called it.

Anonymous said...

So ScrapStacks is closing. It's a shame, there are almost no open galleries anymore.

Anonymous said...

Yea, though I know the gallery at Scraps N Pieces is an open gallery.

Anonymous said...

The Digichick is an open gallery too

Anonymous said...

What is the deal with the title "this is/was awesome" at TLP? It is in the Bingo challenge in March 2016, May 2015 Journaling Challenge, January 2015 Month of Challenges. Do people really want that many pages in their memory books with that same phrase?

Anonymous said...

#85, Scraps N Pieces is not an open gallery, they don't allow outside links

Anonymous said...

87 - That is the same phrase in three challenges spread over more than a year, and you don't even HAVE to use it in the current bingo challenge. It doesn't seem like overkill to me.

Anonymous said...

89-Really? So you want to have three pages in 1 album that have the title that was awesome in them? I don't have a teenager in my household and we don't use the phrase awesome in our home. So to have pages with that would not be realistic for us. it means that I have to scrap a page for the challenge and then change the titlework before I save it for my album. There are millions of titles and phrases out there that could be used - why use the exact same one three times in a year?

Anonymous said...

we don't use the phrase awesome in our home
___
Really?

Anonymous said...

Really. English is not everyone's first language.

Anonymous said...

English is not everyone's first language.

Thanks for that enlightening bit of info. In whatever country in which you reside, I'll bet you're just a little ray of sunshine. If the challenges bother you this much DON'T DO THEM!

Anonymous said...

and FFS it's not like you can't make two copies, one for the challenge, then other with your word of choice for your album. You are a digital scrapper, it's what you do! *sighs*

Anonymous said...

I miss when the Special Edition at TDP was all $1 deals. I felt like I was getting such a good deal. I guess it was too good of a deal, though, and they felt like they were giving it away.

Anonymous said...

I miss when the Special Edition at TDP was all $1 deals. I felt like I was getting such a good deal. I guess it was too good of a deal, though, and they felt like they were giving it away.

________

Special Edition is still a 50% off sale. Pennysaver twice a year is dollar items.

Anonymous said...

I predict TDP will be closing its doors within a few mos.

Anonymous said...

Why do you say that?

Anonymous said...

I predict PCO will close its doors before TDP does.

Anonymous said...

Agreed 99. Honestly I don't even know how P&Co is still open at this point.

Anonymous said...

I only go the TDP for Karla Noel and Creashens, TBH the other designers seem to be less and less interesting and way more generic. Maybe Im getting pickier in my old age!

Anonymous said...

I like Creashens too; I'll have to check out Karla Noel. I don't think I've ever heard of her before. The rest of the stuff there is very average and mostly boring imo.

Anonymous said...

I think PCO will be gone as will TDP-just don't know which will go first.

Anonymous said...

I'm a newsletter subscriber to both PCO and TDP- at least I actually see stuff in my inbox from TDP. It seems like PCO isn't even trying to stay in business.

Anonymous said...

I think TDP is trying; I just don't think they're going to make it. I wish they'd get some new designer(s) in there to shake things up. PCO is a mystery to me as to why they even have a site.

Anonymous said...

Like who?

Anonymous said...

Don't know but they need to do something quickly to compete with TLP and SSD. Both those stores are powerhouses now that they have some of the SO designers. Their forums are more active now and both have recently revamped sites. TDP is just tired and boring;every week is the same old thing. Another turnoff was during the penny saver thing they had some of the same designs they'd had in the previous one. New stuff is the key..new, different, useable stuff. They don't have it. At all.

Anonymous said...

As a customer who shops a LOT I dont even bother going to those two stores now. It all seems to be the same with nothing new to entice me. Agree with 107. I dont think they are even trying.

Anonymous said...

Where do you shop at 108?

Anonymous said...

I thought TDP DID just get a bunch of new designers, from SO?

Anonymous said...

They got a couple, I think. The point is their designs are boring. Since TLP and SSD got the best of SO's designers, it's a moot point. I don't check TDP anymore either. I used to when Mommyish was there but not now. It's a waste of time.

Anonymous said...

TDP has added at least 10 designers since January. They got more of the SO designers than TLP or SSD together. I shopped Pennysaver a little bit and they had around 2x as much brand new items as they had from the archives or whatever they called it. Also Karla Noel is Karla Dudley and she's been around for years but just changed her name, I think maybe she got divorced or remarried?

Anonymous said...

I think TDP is trying; I just don't think they're going to make it. I wish they'd get some new designer(s) in there to shake things up. PCO is a mystery to me as to why they even have a site.
_______

I shopped at TDP all of last year but haven't this year b/c I stopped scrapping b/c of a job change. Got curious so looked at their list and I think all of these people are new since I shopped there for DSD and black friday:

Juno Designs
Laura Banasiak
Little Lamb Co
LJS Designs
Sherry Ferguson
France M Designs
Hat of Bunny
La Belle Vie
Sandy Pie

Anonymous said...

I used to when Mommyish was there but not now. It's a waste of time.

________

Because Mommyish is such a pinnacle of great quality and originality. She was the only reason you shopped at a store? Really?

Anonymous said...

I shopped Pennysaver a little bit and they had around 2x as much brand new items as they had from the archives or whatever they called it.
---

That would have been great if anything had been worth buying but it wasn't...not even for a buck.

Anonymous said...

Idk, I really like this year's TDD so far. I admit, when I first opened my March files I was a bit disappointed...maybe because I wasn't in a spring mood yet but now re-looking at them I like them. Not sure what I'll do with Tangie's portion since I don't pocket scrap but maybe some of them will come in handy...? With all of the digi stuff I have though...I'm sad to say...it will probably be one neglected set. Hopefully others appreciate it more than I did.

Anonymous said...

Because Mommyish is such a pinnacle of great quality and originality. She was the only reason you shopped at a store?
_______

I'm not 111 Anon, I'm a different Anon, but yeah. Mommyish was a major draw for me at TDP, and I'm happy to see her at TLP. Her Photoshop styles and actions are truly awesome, and I really appreciate her tutorials. Mommyish is A-list, and her customers (of which I am one very happy example) will follow her wherever she goes.

Anonymous said...

I am #111 and Mommyish was a major draw at TDP for me too. I enjoy all her designs, templates, styles, and she did/does killer collabs with the likes of Flergs, LBW and many others who are favorites of mine. I have since followed her to TLP as I'm sure many others have.

Anonymous said...

It's because of Mommyish that I discovered and use styles ALL the time now. I'm a huge fan! Her paper templates are a favorite also and those have helped me stretch kits like you wouldn't believe. So yeah.."she is a pinnacle of great quality and originality." I couldn't have stated it better myself. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I'm not a huge fan of hers. I feel like her products are all flash. They look good, but when you get close there's nothing of substance. Nothing original.

I want to like her. She seems nice, but her products are just blah.

Anonymous said...

"It's because of Mommyish that I discovered and use styles ALL the time now. I'm a huge fan!"

Yes, me too (I'm the Anon in 117, btw). I'm currently playing with her watercolor action, and oh wow! So much fun, and the action makes it easy peasy to create really beautiful effects. I also use her chipboard and sticker actions, and her shadow styles, and some other cool stuff too. I think she's unique amongst designers in offering the tools to produce, and not just the finished product.

Anyway, different strokes for different folks, and no one designer is going to suit everyone's styles and tastes. But I was a bit taken aback by the dismissive tone of 114 (snarking on *Mommyish*? really? I don't know her at all, I'm just one of her anonymous happy customers, but she does seem like a really nice person, and I think she's massively talented and kind of special).

Anonymous said...

Mommyish's styles may be good but her extracted CU items are blurry and poor quality. Once I found that out, never bought any more of her elements.

Anonymous said...

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This. Her styles are usually pretty good. Her paper patterns are very basic. I can make them myself very quickly and for free.

Anonymous said...

I disagree on the cu elements. I've never had blurry items or poor quality in any I've bought. I find this is a common complaint made when people don't want others to buy from someone. How about being specific? Exactly which items are faulty?

The paper patterns are basic but she puts them out there for sale so I don't have to make them myself which is the point for me. I don't want to design that stuff, I want to concentrate on photography and scrapping some of the photos I take. Apparently, others agree. There's a whole bunch of designers out there making money from people who don't wish to make things themselves, even for free.

Anonymous said...

I tried her watercolor style and thought it horrible. Extremely fake looking.

Anonymous said...

#124 flowers, charms, especially ephemera have been blurry in the past- anyone buy her pack with the passport? awful quality.

Anonymous said...

If you bought stuff that was blurry from her once, why would you buy anything again?

Anonymous said...

127 because you give people a benefit of a doubt, maybe they were learning, maybe they got better, maybe that was just a really difficult item to photograph and extract. Some designers are hit and miss. Like KimB, some of her stuff has been not so good while others have been great. Bless the people who bought from me again after my first {several} attempts at making kits!

Anonymous said...

Looks like TDP added more new designers today.

Anonymous said...

I'm totally digging the stuff one of guest designers, Rachel Hodge, has out at TDP. Fun and different than most of what's in their store.

Anonymous said...

So so quiet around here

I picked up some really good deals @ Magical Scraps, I know it's CU stuff but I enjoy the flexibility of working it into my pages and matching it to my own themes.

Anonymous said...

What designers in your opinion are underrated? Who should we check out?

Anonymous said...

Just got an email from Scrap Orchard - even though they closed like 4 months ago - and go figure, Kami's still only advertising the designers who went to The Lilypad. How rude to the other majority of her "friends" who didn't end up at TLP.

Anonymous said...

Looks like it was actually Laura who did it. She bought the domain and the list. Seems kind of desperate to me.

Anonymous said...

Where did you get this info?

Anonymous said...

some facebook discussions today

Anonymous said...

Laura who?

Anonymous said...

137 - owner of TLP, not sure of her last name?

And it was stupid of her to do that because technically that newsletter is now spam. Those people didn't sign up for this SO-TLP bullshit.

Anonymous said...

It seems like a waste. Would there really be any customers of value that were on the SO mailing list that weren't on the list for TLP?

Anonymous said...

I downloaded a good majority. Skipped a few that weren't my style but not bad IMO 142

Wasn't SO using MailChimp for their newsletter? Report it as spam. They'll take care of it.

Anonymous said...

Someone explain to me why this is ok to sell? I am very surprised that Robin is allowing this to be sold in SSD http://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/sweetshoppe/product.php?productid=32609&cat=616&page=1

Anonymous said...

Including the word INVADER in order to be able to put VADER in a kit. Clever maybe, but ethical or legal? And the light sabers? Those seem the same as Mickey ears to me in that they have to be trademarked. You don't find those IRL unless it's STAR WARS. http://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/sweetshoppe/product.php?productid=32610&cat=616&page=1

Anonymous said...

Most of Flergs and Amber's kits in that series are full of copyright violations. Robin just doesn't care.

Anonymous said...

#145 & #147 - every time I see a new believe in magic kit I think the same thing.

Anonymous said...

FFS, those are kits at SSD are not copyright violations and the whole including Invader in order to use "Vadar" (note the correct spelling) is really stretching. The word "lightsaber" is indeed copyrighted by Lucas Films but the actual image is not. Want to know why? Because they were around before Star Wars. He 'invented' the word but not the object.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps not copyright violations, but Disney DOES have a trademark on the Mickey ears so if someone from Disney decided to do something about it, they could be in hot water. But as long as there are people fool enough to pay the prices SSD asks for kits, Flergs and co will continue to profit.

Anonymous said...

Are SSDs kits any more expensive than anyone else? I usually wait for at least a 30% off sale to shop anywhere and find that they are pretty much on par with other shops.

Anonymous said...

Pixels & Co finally closing.

Anonymous said...

Wow, they tried to hang in there, but it doesn't seem like it was meant to be. Wonder if any one will take advantage of the closing sale?

Anonymous said...

OMFG #149 you're the biggest idiot. It's not spelled "Vadar" in Star Wars, but nice try. If you're going to defend someone (even your own self) at least educate yourself first. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darth_Vader

Anonymous said...

I'm curious for any designers from the bigger stores, how bad are digi sales? I feel like a more stores than ever are closing and even more are running sales more often.

Anonymous said...

Which stores do you want to hear from?

Anonymous said...

I'm at one of the bigger stores and my sales are stronger than ever.

Anonymous said...

Sales for me are normal. There are certain times of the year (after NSD, DSD, bigger sales, etc.) when sales naturally dip, that's always been the case.

I'm curious as to where you're seeing all these extra sales 155 lol

Anonymous said...

#150 - I wasn't aware that there were Mickey ears in the kit under discussion.

#154 - Vader or Vadar, doesn't negate the point about stretching it by including the word 'invader', all it shows is how much of a fuck I give about the franchise - zero, in case you are wondering. And yeah, I'm totally Amber or Flergs or maybe both

Anonymous said...

My sales are holding steady. Possibly better than last year. The market was over-saturated with designers and so store closures are just weeding out the designers who aren't treating this like a business but a nice little side hobby. Stores have website fees to pay, upgrades to make if they're going to stay in the game and they can't do that with designers who are throwing alphas and journal cards in their store once a month to stay "active". Yes it's sad when a store closes, but when the designers weren't making much to begin with, is it going to be a big loss to them?

Anonymous said...

#155, I think I've noticed Anna Aspnes doing more frequent sales and what seemed like bigger discounts, and I wondered if that indicated a change in the state of things. She has always seemed to keep a tight reign on her discounts.

Anonymous said...

I just wish store owners would weed out some of the designers that are not holding up with their requirements. The store that I am in a couple of people have not produced new product in months or even a year. Need to get rid of them and allow someone in who would actually try.

Anonymous said...

I agree!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, a lot of that passive attitude is what killed Scrap Orchard.

Anonymous said...

No, Kami killed Scrap Orchard. It had nothing to do with sales.

Anonymous said...

But you have to admit several of the designers there weren't putting things out regularly. Why Crossbone Cuts got in after SM closed is still a mystery- made no business sense whatsoever.

Some designers are such rigid, uptight, conservative prisses it's maddening.

Anonymous said...

Lol they still are 167.

Anonymous said...

Flergs really loves violating copyrights doesn't she.

Anonymous said...

She sure does, #169.

Anonymous said...

Well I'm going to be honest. As a scrapper I love those kinds of kits and personally don't give a rat's ass about copyrights. All I care about is making pages that have the elements I want.

Anonymous said...

Well sure 171 but you know who does care? The people who actually created the images she continues to use. She's making money from THEIR artwork, that's the problem. There are plenty of kits out there that are themed that don't violate copyrights.

Anonymous said...

I fully understand, and again couldn't care less. Yes there are plenty of other kits but I buy what I like and I tend to like Flergs' kits alot. So I buy them. If the people who own the copyrights care enough to enforce them, they will. If not, well I guess they'll still be for sale then right?

Anonymous said...

You're part of the problem #173. By buying kits with copyrighted images, you're supporting people who break the law. It's like driving the getaway car for a friend who robs a bank. Shame on you.

Anonymous said...

Nice attitude, 173. I bet you would care if she was using your artwork to make money for herself.

Anonymous said...

I think it's been said here before, but I can't believe that Robin lets Flergs and Amber Shaw sell those kits at SSD. Then again, Robin lets Amanda Yi sell her junk there so I guess she allows anything/everything.

Anonymous said...

I don't feel any shame :) And I'm definitely not alone! bring 'em on!!!!!! love them!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

You should 177. What she's doing is just as bad as actual physical theft.

Little trick for digiscrap parade designers: If you're using dropbox for downloads, change the "dl=0" to "dl=1" at the end so customers can get a direct download. Trust me, they'll thank you for it.

Anonymous said...

The digiscrap parade this month is incredibly boring. I've visited all of it and only downloaded 2 items... the rest was so unoriginal it was sad :(

Anonymous said...

I agree. There were a couple of nice templates I downloaded. As for Hat of Bunny? Dumb move to make people have to join your closed Facebook group in order to get your freebie.

Anonymous said...

How's that different from asking people to subscribe to newsletters for freebies? If you want it enough you'll join. If you don't want it, move on.

Anonymous said...

181 entitled much? If it's that difficult move on to the next one. Jeez you people think designers owe you, they don't!!!

Anonymous said...

#183 You sound just like a brain washed merican.
Let me guess, you voted for POTUS and will vote
for the female running. Obviously you don't understand the business concept very well. The customer doesn't owe the designer anything, without them, where would they be?

Anonymous said...

Not 183 but what the heck are you talking about #184. Nobody said anything about the customers owing the designers. In this case if they want a freebie they can give up their email address or 3 seconds of their time to join a fan group or visit a blog and click on a link. If they don't want it they are free to not do so. It's an equal exchange.

Anonymous said...

Not even an american # 184 you dumb shit. You think everyone's a american???

Anonymous said...

I *love* it when designers jack up their prices because their store is having a big sale. ::sarcasm::

Anonymous said...

Which designers would those be?

Anonymous said...

Yes, please share who, so I can make sure not to shop with them again!

Anonymous said...

I guess it's really bad if they drop them after a sale- but everyone I like seems to be on the same price range-

Anonymous said...

I noticed this too - There's a certain kit designer at the lily-pad especially, but I thought I might have imagined it as I hadn't been there for a few weeks and presumed I'd just missed a generic hike in prices.

Anonymous said...

Isn't this the place to name and shame people?

Anonymous said...

For real. Skip the "certain kit designer" "designers who" BS and just say who it is. This is the shit this place exists for.

Anonymous said...

I'm curious- do tell! I shop at TLP and SSD and kits all seem to be the same price- iif someone raised before a sale and then sneakily lowers the prices after the sale that's not cool at all- but if they just raise their prices to be in line with everyone I don't have a problem unless they are selling crap- idk- this is how a lot of people pay their bills- if they are putting out good stuff- I'll nod to a raise- and if it's not a value- I pass. Simple. I guess it depends on motives.

Anonymous said...

I've heard people saying designers do this before a sale, but I've never encountered it myself, so I too am curious as to where this is being done. Please share.

Anonymous said...

I don't think it's real, someone always posts stuff complaining about designers who do this, yet they never name who they are. Just disregard, this is not happening.

I went to pick up something at SugarHill and the regular price was listed as $6. Then they had a 60% off sale and all of a sudden the regular price had jumped to $12. Awfully pricey for flower vectors.

Anonymous said...

WOW!!! who did that at SugarHill so I know not to buy!

Anonymous said...

Well not to make assumtptions, but the only item for a whopping $12 is Traci Strouds cutsey floral vectors.
http://www.sugarhillco.com/shop/Cutesy-Florals-Vectors/
In saying that I was too lazy to scroll past the first page! Im nosy, but lazy!

Anonymous said...

Miss Tiina has some things at $12 but not flower vectors, which is what 197 said. Traci's overpriced flower vectors aren't showing as marked down, though.

Anonymous said...

Maybe she had them priced at $6 and then decided to leave them at $12 once she saw that someone noticed?

Anonymous said...

I see that Flergs has some Disney inspired kits, but nothing stands out to me as copyrighted material. Can you point to a specific image?

Anonymous said...

I think people were mad about the pokemon kit.

Anonymous said...

Oh, I missed that one. The image of Pikachu on the card does seem a little questionable. But everything else seems ok.

Anonymous said...

What about the egg? the staryu pokemon?

Anonymous said...

Lol that Pikachu isn't questionable. That's an actual image, Flergs/Amber didn't create that themselves.

I'm giving up on TDP. Most of the designers that I bought from either left or no longer put things out on a regular basis. All the new designers are basically craptastic.
It's like they're channeling what's her name with PCO and none of them give a shit anymore.

Anonymous said...

#7 I agree :( The new stuff is not my kind of thing, far cry from the lovely kits they used to put out. I want to support them, but its all so... meh!

Anonymous said...

Which designers in particular are you talking about, #7?

Anonymous said...

I'm with #7 and #8. I used to love TDP, and I'd really like to continue to support them, but nowadays I rarely find anything that says "buy me!" or "must-have."

#9 (I'm not #7, but I'll answer anyway!): in terms of TDP stuff that I don't like, I can't even think of which designers in particular, and that's part of the problem: I find the work of the newer designers to be bland, generic, and uninspiring.

I do like Laura Passage, but I already have a lot of her stuff, and don't really need more of the same. And I also like KimB, but a lot of her theme-y kits don't really work for the kinds of pages I like to do.

Anonymous said...

What designers would you like to see go to TDP?

Anonymous said...

#7 here. Who I'd like to see at TDP . . . I'd like to see Mommyish come back, and then I'd like to see Laura P, Little Lamm, Mari K, and the others who have been there since the beginning go back to making an effort. I'm not sure who else left, because frankly, they've been adding so many mediocre/crappy designers, I can't keep it all straight anymore.

I loved most of the stuff they put out for the first year or so, and thought they were working so well together on the monthly collabs and coordinated kits. AND, they were putting out lots of stuff individually that I loved. Every month, I had to seriously rein myself in, because there was so much good stuff.

I don't know what happened, but now, it just feels like they've been adding anyone they could so they could all sit back and be lazy about putting new things out. The lack of effort and attention is VERY noticeable.

I was so happy to see them break away from PCO and wanted to keep supporting them, but now there's almost nothing coming out of there that I want to buy. This is something that I never thought I'd say, but I find myself going to SSD more and more.

I guess it's not so much about who I want to see them bring in to the store, but wishing that all those designers who were there for the first year or two would go back to making an effort and working together to make sure that the store is full of good things.

And honestly, just about every single one of the new designers they've brought in for the past 6-12 months could go, b/c 99% of their stuff is just bleh. I haven't found anything there that I want to scrap with in months and months. At this point, I only go hoping to pick up stuff on sale that I never got to buy a while back. There's not much left of that, so I'm ready to give up on them for good :(
