I've downloaded a dozen zips from the Digiscrap Parade Blog Train and I'm happy with what I downloaded. Judging from the previews I've seen of the next DST Blog Train, I say the Digiscrap Parade blog train is a 100% improvement. Well done contributors, I'll be looking forward to the next one!
What does everyone else think about it ? Any gripes or praise you'd like to dish out ?

«Oldest ‹Older 1001 – 1200 of 1253 Newer› Newest»Suprising change for Suzy. She will have to change her style drastically to fit in at SBG.
I have no idea why Suzy is leaving SO (I'm not behind the scenes there). Frankly, I don't care why she's leaving, but I am curious as to why she's moving to SBG. Just doesn't seem like a natural fit. I'm not bashing Suzy or SBG... I'm just saying that when I think of Suzy, I think of "bright colors and a traditional paper scrapping feel. Usually kid-centered doodles/themes." When I think SBG, I think "art journaling or altered art, more of a diary-type style of scrapping. Lots of stuff for grown-up pages." (I'd say "adult-themed," but you'd all snicker.) Maybe SBG is trying to cast a wider net? IDK.
Good luck, Suzy! I hope you do well at SBG.
Well, their call did say that they were specifically looking for more traditional designers. They've recently taken Digilicious and now Suzy so yeah, I'd say they either aren't seeing the sales they want from the art journal direction or they want to diversify some. I think we'll see some more traditional designers come on through their call.
3, I'm post 2. I don't design so I never looked at their call. It makes sense to me that they'd want to take on different types of designers; however, will customers think to check SBG for traditional kits?
If you're reading this and you scrap in a more traditional, paper-looking way (like SuzyQ), will you start shopping at SBG now?

I think the font is Janda Happy Day

Her path "no longer fits" with SO's path and that's why she's leaving - why don't I believe that? LOL.
194 - Do you realize how ignorant you sound? BTW lesbian and bisexual - completely different. If you knew any gay people, which you must not because you're so incredibly ignorant on the subject, you'd know that.
Most lesbians don't dig on bisexuals and they don't like girls who flirt with girls just for shock/erotic value. I still don't get how hitting on someone is acting "lesbian". If you flirted with a guy no one would say you were acting "straight". Slutty maybe depending on the circumstances, but not "straight".
You clearly know nothing about either lesbians or glbt people. I know several glbt people and bisexuals specifically and none have ever hit on me to try and 'act lesbian'. I think they'd find the thought of 'acting' anything that had to do with orientation offensive.
Go educate yourself.
certainly like your web-site however you need to
check the spelling on quite a few of your posts.
Several of them are rife with spelling issues and I to find it very troublesome to tell the
reality on the other hand I will surely come back again.

Great spam message!
4-no. I don't care for that store.
I'm looking for a new digital home. One with good challenges, a normal gallery, and a welcoming forum. Does such a thing exist?
I wanted to like Pixels & Company but I don't like the way their challenges are set up. I don't like SSD and loathe SO (especially their new gallery).
My style is more traditional. Enable me please!
ScrapMatters
I agree - I think you would like ScrapMatters.
Gotta Pixel has some good challenges and you get points towards product.
I thirdsy ScrapMatters.
ScrapMatters.. They have really good challenges and I like them because you can "bank" your points and save for real money coupons to the store to buy a whole kit.
Another vote for SM - they are a great place!!
I like challenges @the lilypad !
4 - I HATE the look of SBG. I'll look there once in a blue moon but I just hate navigating that place! Did I say I hate it there???
You clearly know nothing about either lesbians or glbt people. I know several glbt people and bisexuals specifically and none have ever hit on me to try and 'act lesbian'. I think they'd find the thought of 'acting' anything that had to do with orientation offensive.
-
I wouldn't be surprised to hear that no one ever of any orientation had "hit" on you. You sound like a self-righteous, insecure and overly defensive asshole. Go get some therapy and put your computer away until you can calm down.
11- what about TDC? They offer points for challenges that convert to $ off purchases. You also earn points with purchases
What's so bad about the challenges at Pixels and Co? Am I missing something?
I haven't been inspired by the P&C challenges, either. I think they all require a template?
Don't bother downloading Bella Gypsy's SO newsletter and SO FB freebie; they're not work your time or hard drive space. Jagged edges, blurry elements, unnecessary shadows, lack of texture. It's a hot mess.
24 - I'm not a fan and don't particularly like the kit but I just looked at it and didn't see any glaring horribleness.
What specifically had jagged edges and was blurry?
I'm not the OP, but a quick look at the elements...
The balloons have a blurry edge at the top at 100%. Not a big deal at all for printing. The button has a shadow in the buttons holes that should have been removed. The clip is horrible (poor picture quality). The pale yellow curl ribbon has jagged edges at 100%. Not a big deal for printing, but the picture quality of both curl ribbons is awful, too.
I don't get the lack of texture as many of the elements border on too much texture for me and the papers are perfectly fine.
It's not perfect, but hardly anything that would impact printing.
^^^^^
Except that if you use an element like the ribbon curls at 100% on your layout and print it, it looks like crap because the element is poorly made.
Do designers not look at their elements at 100% view to see the actual quality of them? I can't think any designer would look at that element at 100% and think it looked OK.
FTR, I'm not the OP.
I'm 26 and I my comment about printing did not include the 3 horrible quality elements. Sorry that wasn't clear. I would just delete those and not use them because the image quality is very poor.
The other things you wouldn't see in printing.
#20 Actually, they sound like they, themselves might be gay (or maybe a family member or friend) and find it offensive that someone refers to anyone as acting gay or lesbian.
You sound like the asshole here. Not them.

Yeah, right. Most of us have someone who is gay or bi-sexual whom we care for deeply. That still doesn't explain why the poster went postal on the op. You actually have no idea what is going on here unless you're a mind reader which I highly doubt.
Who are our favorite designers at Scrap Matters? I can seldom find anything I like there. Maybe I'm missing something?
Sorry..who are YOUR favorite designers ..
KimB
31 - Amy Stoffel, Juno Designs, Kim B, Litabells, River Rose, and Stolen Moments. I like a few others, but they're more hit and miss (like LDrag Designs and K Studio). I think Scrap Matters has a nice variety of designers and there are other good ones there, but they're not my favorites because they're not my style (like Victoria Feemster and geniaBeana).
At ScrapMatters I like Clever Monkey, geniaBeana (she doesn't release a lot though),KimB, LDrag, Litabells, River Rose, and Stolen Moments.
I don't shop at SM bc I can't find a consistent fave

==========
It seems pretty obvious to me that SBG isn't doing well, and Maya thinks that the way to correct it is to go after the style of designs that seem to sell better elsewhere. She sees places like SSD and SO and SM and TDC with "traditional designers" doing well, and she wants a piece of the action. From her standpoint it makes sense.
The part I don't understand is how/why these designers are falling for it? If she needs you in order to attract that type of customer, what is SBG offering you? A big fat pile of nada. I am very surprised that Suzy is falling for it. Digilicious makes sense, as I am certain she wasn't making much in her previous store. But what makes an established designer like Suzy who has a totally different style than SBG think that going there is a good idea?
And don't tell me it's not for the money or sales, because it's not for the company. It's a well-documented fact that Maya is a giant PITA to work for.
According to posters here, Kami is not the easiest person, either. Maybe that's why. Maybe it has nothing to do with it. Maybe Suzy thinks Kami is amazing. Maybe she hates her.
Sometimes, you choose a place with lower sales, because they are just not worth it.
40. Well documented? Let's see it? I've only ever seen people here rehash a couple of public issues, but never have I seen any stories told of what goes on behind the scenes at Scrapbookgraphics. I'm curious. Maybe I want to apply to this call. The only thing I have ever read is on this smack blog and never with details of how Maya or Kami are difficult to work with. I call bullshit until I get some details. Smells like designers or store owners trying to sabotage competition if you ask me, or sour grapes.
41, you're so naive. Just because you've only ever read about things on this blog doesn't make them untrue. I've received actual correspondence from Maya before in which she was a major bitch in a situation where any other human being would have been polite. She's a PITA. I've talked to other designers who have had similar experiences, and have shared similar e-mails with me. I have documentation, but before you even ask, no I will not share this info b/c it would out who I am. Either way the point is that my original statement isn't made-up BS.
40 here, and I didn't say it was well-documented. I'm saying that a rep here isn't what anyone should base their store decision on.
Did anyone listen to last week's Digi Show? Curious to know your thoughts, particularly when they are talking about commenting anonymously.
I have trouble listening to the Digi show. It always seems to turn into SNL's Delicious Dish and I get so bored.
What is "SNL's Delicious Dish"?
I wanted to apply at SBG...
Who are the best and more professional store owners ?
I'm not an ass kisser.
#46: This is "Delicious Dish."

LOL 45
"Anonymous said... 47
I wanted to apply at SBG..."
I would take the testimonials from current SBG designers (included in the call) much more seriously than anonymous griping here. I don't know Maya, have never interacted with her, but I do know that even a sweetheart can be driven to bitchiness by harassment. Perhaps the complainers here share some responsibility for the unpleasantness of their encounters.
#48- OMG! Yes it is LOL.
Lol! I only knew it as Schweddy Balls!
I agree with 50, but I would include former designers as well.
45 - LOL! Ditto. I tried listening to it, but they sound like a bunch of boring twits who have nothing to say I couldn't read elsewhere in 2 mins - yet they make a 30+min episode about it.
SuzyQ posted this on FB:
"For the curious. :) I've had a LOT of questions & concern from fans & customers about why I am moving stores, especially after being in once place for so long. It's not a secret, so I'm sharing it here. :) Scrap Orchard is a wonderful store, and it was the right store for me for the last 3+ years. Over time, though, my business model has changed & I realized that it no longer matched Scrap Orchard's. I'm not the best fit for their store anymore, and their store isn't the best fit for me. So I resigned on Monday. I picked to move to Scrapbookgraphics because their business model matches mine more closely. My store at Scrapbookgraphics will open on Monday. If you have any questions, I'm happy to address them. Feel free to email me at suzyqscraps AT gmail DOT com. Thank you for your concern & continued support!"
In other words, Scrap Orchard sucks as much as many of us on this blog have been saying for months. Good for Suzy. I hope she does well at SBG.
Where did you see the news about Mscraps & Scrapflower merging?
Good luck to Suzy. She works very hard and will do well wherever she goes. If she is leaving SO, then there is a story there. May not be a juicy, ugly story, but a story, none the less.
I still cannot imagine Suzy Q at SBG. I think it's a real bad move on her part and I think you'll see her at another store w/in six mos. SBG is a pit. Their site looks awful and several of their designers are as well. I think at one time it was an awesome store. That time has well passed.
I don't think it looks awful. I think it's one of the most attractive sites in digi. Different tastes. I think SO is one of the ugliest.
I'm not a fan of either... I think they both need to be updated. I really like TLP's new look, and I think P&CO looks good.
#60 - I agree with you on both counts.
I still cannot imagine Suzy Q at SBG. I think it's a real bad move on her part and I think you'll see her at another store w/in six mos. SBG is a pit. Their site looks awful and several of their designers are as well. I think at one time it was an awesome store. That time has well passed.
-----
Totally agree with all of this. I think it's a HORRIBLE move on her part.
I think she really left because she wasn't doing as well as she used to at SO...why she thinks she'll do better at SBG is beyond me.
IMHO Scrap Orchard's downhill slide began with the dumbass change of the gallery.
64 - I totally agree! I used to spend a ton there and participated in quite a few challenges. Now it's such a PITA I don't bother and don't buy a lot either, except for templates I can use with other designer's kits and other sites.
65 - This is me 100%. I wish Little Green Frog and Liz would go someplace else so I can take SO off my list entirely.
63 - If she wasn't doing well at SO, then why in the world should she stay there? That makes no sense to me. I'm not sure SBG is the place for her style, either, but she must think she has a shot. Suzy isn't stupid. I don't like her style at all, but she seems like a pretty smart designer. I would have liked to see her go to ScrapMatters, personally. I think she would fit in well there.
One of the designers posted on her FB page (I forgot which) that MScraps and Scrap Flowers are merging and they're going to have a "party".
I agree about the stupid gallery change at SO. I used to buy from there and participate in challenges - I don't anymore. I liked to look through the categories in the gallery. It's a dog's breakfast now IMO!
The downhill slide started before the gallery change (though I pretty much gave up on them entirely when they changed it - I've hated the gallery from the second I saw it!).
There was a contest (to win a new camera I believe) and you got entries doing various things. One of which required you to use a new release on a layout - using a NR got you extra entries. I remember waiting each week for SOMETHING to come out to buy. And I remember there was virtually NOTHING released each week (aside from tons of templates). When other sites have similar contests, you can believe they go crazy with the releases cuz duh - it's a great sales tactic to release tons of stuff during contests like this.
So yeah - SO was dying back then. The gallery was the last straw for me. And now it feels like everyone is jumping ship. Hope the others can find stores to join up with when SO finally fizzles and dies.
I agree.
I remember that (was that Iron Scrapper?) and I also had a hard time finding anything I'd want to buy in the new releases.
Is that what they called it? That's sounds right. I can't remember though. They've had a few celebrations where new releases would have sold well, and each & every time they come up WAY short. I keep thinking next week will be different, and then nothing. It's too bad, cuz I spent a lot of my early digi life there, but it's just not like it was. Not sure what's up - wish it could be better, but it's been months now, and things only seem to be getting worse...
I've been happy with some of the new releases at SO. I think Dream Big has been putting out some cute kits every other week. The solid producers there are doing their every other week for bigger releases but there have been some real hit or miss designers. Amanda Heimann (?) barely EVER gets a kit out. I heard that she is kind of flaky with collabs too. The other designer has to wait forever for Amanda to finish.
The past few weeks at SO have been a lot better. I agree that it seemed like the end of last summer things just stopped. I don't think I'd say that the store is dead though.
Hey, any know who made Megan Turnidge's team?
Hey- did anyone apply to that call?
Why bother? She'll just retire.
it amazes me why so many are so interested as to who is on which CT team-why?? What does it matter??
Most of the biggie designers like Teresa Collins don't design themselves. They have a concept and have others design for them. Why do you think so many of the scrapbook companies only put their name on a product rather then the actual digital designer'a name who designed the product. Yeah the digital designer gets paid for the work but never gets the glory. I sure wouldn't work for a company that wouldn't give me the credit for my work unless they were paying me big big bucks. Teresa Collins is a big name in the industry and has a lot of product that she probably couldn't design and keep up with it all herself. There are a lot of companies now using others designs for their products. I think the only big name out their who actually designs most all his stuff is Tim Holtz. Other companies like Sizzix, Ranger etc produce his products but his name is on everything he designs.
where the eff did that rant come from, 78?
#78- I think it's a response to something they read a few pages back about CT teams and digital designers not having their names on the paper lines they design. Alot of digital designers are designing paper lines and they don't have their names on the product. It's usually the company that produces it. So the rant came from a lot of pages back in the thread LOL!
I'm #80, I meant to say #79 not #78 in my response.
#78- I think alot of digital designers who design lines for paper companies know their names won't be on the actual product. So they go into it knowing they won't get the credit 100%.
#78 - and what does any of that have to do with your question about why people want to know who applied to Megan Turnidge's CT call?
I'm 63. What I meant was that she's not doing as well as she used to as SO, but at least she's doing decent. I guess I didn't word it the right way. I don't think she'll do well at all @ SBG because she doesn't fit in. Unless she's planning to change drastically, and if she is, she could lose a lot of customers who buy from her because of the style she has now. I guess we'll see how it goes though.
84. SBG has many styles in their store. Who would she need to fit in with? I like shopping in a store where all styles be different rather than everything looking the same.
SBG does NOT have many styles in their store. They especially do not have anything like what Suzy Q designs which could be a good thing. IMO, it's not in this case because SBG is a mess and who wants to weed through that mess to find something different?
84. -----I like shopping in a store where all styles be different rather than everything looking the same.

quote.
megan's list is up. maybe she reads herem too?
http://www.designsbymeganturnidge.com/blog/?p=2668
84 I prefer a store with similar styles. Not all the products should look the same but I like when the designers are all kinda in the same style. I won't shop at a store where there's only one thing or designer to buy from. It's a waste of my time.
imo the whole point of a store is to have several designers in the style you like at your fingertips. I think that's why SSD works so well (not affliated). Because they are all similar styles and it works for them. They have a cohesive look.
To me when a store has several different styles I think the owner may not have a real idea of what she wants for the store or where she wants the store to go kwim? jmo
1. Suzy Q obviously has a good reason to move stores. Though I actually think SBG is a terrible move. I don't shop there. The layout of the store is crap. I think SBG groupies are happy. But they don't have much hope of attracting new clients just because Suzy Q is coming
2. http://scrapsandthecity.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12_430&products_id=6761 <= this is why some people shouldn't be designing.
^^^
197 elements for only $1! What a steal.
But really. If people who shouldn't be designing all quit, who would we smack?
Actually, it looks better than the crap Harper Finch vomits up. Those ugly ass glitter roses that she recolors and puts in every kit are the worst.
I always get a kick out of how informed everyone here seems to be about how well a store or designer does or doesn't do. This information is not public. I also find it funny how every change a store makes is a clue that the store is losing money or on the way out. Serious lack of imagination considering the possibilities of any decision made. You can speculate all you want but the fact is you know nothing at all and your expert opinions are meaningless rants meant only to make yourself feel bigger, better or smarter than you really are.
19 papers and 197 elements is a megakit???
Hope she didn't exhaust herself making that much!!
93 - Given this blog is primarily designers and store owners along with some creative team members and the occasional customer only, I'd say they're privy to quite a bit of information.
Absolutely no one changes stores for any other reason that money and/or a difficult owner. Period. Why else would a designer go through the extremely time consuming process of repackaging, reuploading, etc?
Seriously.
So glad to see that 2 of the new Sugar Babes could scrap this week. Most of them haven't made more than a page or two since they got taken on. What a bunch of great choices made there. This is what happens when you pick the suck-ups. Once they get on the team, they slack off. I can understand Tara with the tornado, but the others? Slacker suck-ups.
I thought the same thing, 96. I haven't seen anything from the new babes other than Kim and Natalie who already CTed for everyone there anyway.
95 - If you also add store plan/set up, I'd agree. Sometimes designers leave because they don't like the requirements or the way the ct is handled which has more to do with the store vision/plan than the owner specifically.
Then there are some designers that just like to hop for the sake of hopping and there are others who have the opportunity to get into their dream store and go for it.
95. You know for a fact that it is all store owners and designers here? I am sure they are all here too, right? And I am sure all of the store owners are here spilling the beans about how much everyone makes too, right? I don't think so. I have seen a few designers mention their income, but that doesn't mean there are plenty more that make much more than mentioned but don't bother to waste their time here telling you about it. Why would anyone tell everyone if they are making more money than everyone assumes?
As for your conclusion that no one every leaves unless they are not selling well or there is a difficult owner, well that proves my point that you lack imagination. For one thing, I can think of half a dozen reasons why a store owner may let someone go, something you never even covered. I can also imagine reasons why someone may want or need a change that has nothing at all to do with sales. Not everyone is a lazy ass that can't be bothered repackaging.
Sometimes there is a personality conflict between designers too.
#99 how about you log off the computer and go get the 4" diameter corn cob stuck up your ass removed?
Personally, I think Suzy left SO because her sales have taken a nose dive, and she blamed SO instead of putting the blame on herself where it belonged. I stopped shopping in her store a while ago because she kept putting out the same kit with the same flowers and similar color schemes every single week. I liked her style, but the repetition of the same elements over and over really turned me off. I'd imagine I'm not the only customer she lost because of that.
About SBG- I still love them. The challenges used to be better- but they still do have some decent ones. Some of my favorite designers are at SBG (Lorie Davison, Ztampf!, ViVa, Tangie- etc. Yeah- I'm sure some of you could care less-but oh well- posting my opinion anyway.
For the scrapper looking for a welcoming forum and good challenges- I do echo the ScrapMatters recommendation. Do I love ALL of their designers? Nope. But- they have some good ones. River Rose, Stolen Moments, and Clever Monkey Graphics are fabulous (in my opinion- which I am POSITIVE that some of you will not share...but offering it up anyway) I like Litabells Designs too from the limited amount I have scrapped with her kits- and KimB is great. Quite honestly, as well, I do get the most thoughtful comments on my pages at this site as well. Whether they are arguably "real" comments or not because of requirements for the CT- I really don't care. They do take the time to actually make comments about the page itself and different aspects of it- and I appreciate it.
How the hell does Splendid Fiins get $10 (regular price) for 32 journal cards?! http://the-lilypad.com/store/June-card-kit.html
6 of them have a graph paper background, 2 have the same lined background (in different colors), and 2 have the same cloud background. Obviously they have different sayings, but it's still the same. So, to say there are 32 "different" journal cards seems a bit of a stretch.
I think Dream Big has been putting out some cute kits every other week.
^^^
Funny I think shes is, by far, one of the weakest designers there.
I don't think 99 is that far off. Hardly worth the cob in the ass comment.
There are tons of reasons why designers leave stores and they don't all have to do with money or owners. Those may be tipping points in some cases, but hardly the only reasons.
99 - Name your 6 reasons and your post may have had some credibility. Hell, name even 3 and you would have had more, but you didn't.
Same with you, 106.
Give us all some real, known reasons why designers have left stores that don't have to do with money or the owner - from your own experience of changing a store or a designer friend you know. Getting asked to leave isn't the same as leaving on your own and therefore isn't a reason.
Getting asked to leave isn't the same as leaving on your own and therefore isn't a reason.
---------------
That is true, but which designer will advertise "I was asked to leave store X. I will open soon in store Y". So any designer who "leaves" a store, might not be choosing to leave either. Unless this falls under the "owner" reason.
107. I have no problem utilizing my own imagination. Sorry you were unable to meet the challenge and come up with some ideas on your own, but if you need schooling . . .
These are not "real, known reasons" because none of us know why a designer leaves somewhere unless they are a friend someone whom will confide in us. The point is that there is no absolutes here and any of these suggestions (and I am sure more) could possibly be valid reasons.
1. Designer still thinks there is somewhere up to go. We all have different perceptions.
2. Designer wants to sell somewhere that her friends are selling (I actually know someone who did this)
3. Designer feels her style, quality, personality fits another store better.
4. Designer just wants a change because change is often inspiring.
5. Designer's life changes or she simply has a change of heart and no longer wishes to keep to the contractual obligations of the store.
6. Store makes changes that have nothing to do with the owner being difficult, but designer can't get behind those changes.
7. Designer has issues or conflict with another designer.
8. Designer is simply curious about her potential elsewhere. She is doing well where she is but perhaps plateaued , so maybe she could do better. Maybe she is confident with her customers loyalty and looking to reach into a new market.
9. Designer thinks there may be potential for her to expand her business into different areas besides digi or even scrapbooking through her moving. Many store owners and designers have contacts and connections with magazines, paper lines and other graphic design options that she may have more access to if she is in with that crowd.
10. Designer did a collab or guest spot at another store and was blown away by the results. So she moves to get more of that. This is similar to above but with specifics.
11. Designer thinks she is hot shit and too good for everyone around her in her current store.
12. Designer spends too much time on a smack blog believing the crap that is dished out here and naively changes stores because she thinks the perceptions of this bunch (who love to smack her store) are the way people see things across the community.
13. Designer is insecure and despite how successful she is, maybe she worries that people don't like her where she is. Maybe she imagines that she is not as good as everyone else at that store. Maybe other designers are actually really mean to her or intentionally leave her out of things, completely unknown to store owner.
14. There are of course, just as many reasons why she may have been asked to leave and she is not about to damage her reputation by telling the world about it if she was caught pirating, or infringing on copyright or has a bad attitude that causes disruption.
I could keep going but why bother? You can't seem to break free of the idea that the way you see things is the only way there is, and that a designer only leaves due to bad store owner or poor sales. These are not absolutes as you seem to think they may be.
Well said.
12. Designer spends too much time on a smack blog believing the crap that is dished out here and naively changes stores because she thinks the perceptions of this bunch (who love to smack her store) are the way people see things across the community
-------------------
That is not the case? Shocking!!!
*faints*
109 - I'm 107 and not the OP, so please use your imagination to think there is more than one other person on this blog in addition yourself.
I wasn't being uncreative in not naming reasons. I'm just sick of people saying stupid ass shit like "there are tons of reasons and I can think of a ton right now off the top of my head" then they say NOTHING.
You have something to say then say it. You haven't proved anyone wrong or proved yourself right by saying you can imagine a whole list of things in your head.
LOL @ 112. I can imagine being a size 4, filthy rich, with perky boobs and my 18 year old ass. That doesn't make it so.
109
Your list was good (albeit a bit sad if some people really make decisions for those reasons), but your attitude really does diminish your credibility.
Has anyone purchased Tangie's "The Vault"? Is it worth it? If you don't know what I'm talking about, here it is: http://shop.scrapbookgraphics.com/The-Studio-Tangie-Vault-Exclusive-Access.html
While I think it's cool that you're getting access to 6 years' worth of retired product, I'm pretty sure that the quality of the early stuff isn't up to my standards. If anyone has Entered The Vault already please let me know what you think! Is it worth $60?
IMO, it's so not worth it. I haven't purchased the Vault, but did make a few purchases from her a few years ago and I see some of the things I bought in there. I was never very impressed with her work, and ended up not using just about all of it.
The whole "I GUARANTEE there will be over 300 things by the end of 2013" thing would send me running. When has one of these "lifetime" subscriptions with "guarantees" of tons of products ever worked out in digi? Not once that I can think of. But I remember a lot of pissed off unhappy people complaining about designers who flaked out on these kinds of things.
Finally, $60 is way too much for some of the crap that's in that preview. Some of that stuff is just crap.
Could the twits over at The Digi Dares get their shit together? As a designer, I will not sponsor your site and I'm not sure why anyone else would, either.
Today's post...
Hi everyone! Karah here posting for Kim … we had a little date mix-up in the back end (totally my fault – I blame it on end-of-the-school-year-brain!) and today’s dare is getting posted just a teensy bit late – so sorry about that!
Last week's...
IMPORTANT NOTE: oops! Last week we said that this dare had to be posted by 5/30, but the deadline is actually TODAY! Because of our oversight, we will give you all one extra week to do this dare (so it must be posted by 5/23). Thanks for understanding!
The week before that...
Sorry to leave you guys hanging again, but we have some fun things in the works and decided that we need just a bit more time before we were ready to share it with everyone. So please be patient with us as you’ll have to wait just ONE more week for our next Digi Dare!
The week before that...
We are taking a week off… but you should use this week to work on our Dare #320. Yep, we are giving you one extra week to finish Dare #320.
Before that...
Hello fellow darers! It’s Christina this week with a very LATE post!!
Didn't they just have a call? Are there really no reliable digiscrappers out there?
I think the site redesign threw them off a bit. Well, last month. Not sure what happened this week.
Are there really no reliable digiscrappers out there?
-----------------
There really aren't.
The DigiDares people are all or mostly lilypad people. There's your explanation right there.
I agree so much with #102 re: Suzy leaving SO that I could have written that post myself! I think she was losing sales to Kristin Aagard (who is a BY FAR superior designer with similarly themed kits) and maybe even Bella Gypsy who seem to be top of the heap over there these days.
118-Yes there are reliable digiscrappers. Apparently the site you are referring to just aren't some of them.
I think Dream Big has been putting out some cute kits every other week.
^^^
Funny I think shes is, by far, one of the weakest designers there.
-----------
Really? Can I ask why you think she's "weak"? I guess I just don't really understand your interpretation.
there are some very reliable CTs out there, and some darn good ones. I think I am one of them and know a few others. Funny thing is we are mostly on the same teams. We get our stuff done right, on time, and get picked for GSOs often. The designers I create for are in top tier stores, and are very organized also. That helps! I have been on some flaky designer teams that were so talented, but their drama just wearies me. Here is my kit, it goes live in 20 minutes, any chance of a top notch page? uh no
If a designer gives me a kit at the last minute and wants a page that moment, I definitely don't drop my life and jump. I don't care if some people think that makes me a bad CTM, but if you want quality team members who are reliable, then you need to get your shit together as a designer.
117 - How does a site redesign throw anyone off? Did they work on it as creative team members? Creating a digi dare and making a page doesn't seem like a site redesign would cause a delay in pulling your head out of your ass and schedule a blog post on time. If there was no blog, I can understand that, but if they can post they're delayed, there is clearly a blog...
"I think she was losing sales to Kristin Aagard (who is a BY FAR superior designer with similarly themed kits) and maybe even Bella Gypsy who seem to be top of the heap over there these days."
------------------------------
Is Bella Gypsy a big seller? I downloaded a few Bella Gypsy freebies this year & was disappointed. I'm not sure what word I'd use to describe it, maybe unrefined? The stuff seems a little clunky, & I haven't used any of it yet. Is it popular with other scrappers?
SuzyQ's stuff was really cute a year or so ago but I also got tired of seeing the same kit, again and again, in different colors. I think she found a formula that sold well, and followed that formula ... avian and again ... and now it's just worn out.
I think Dream Big has been putting out some cute kits every other week.
^^^
Funny I think shes is, by far, one of the weakest designers there.
-----------
Really? Can I ask why you think she's "weak"? I guess I just don't really understand your interpretation.
^^^
I think her colors are really bad on most of her kits, and her kits overall lack depth. There is not a lot of variation in her kits and overall, including texture variation within and across kits. She seems like a very inexperienced designer.
The digidares have been so very flaky for several months. They are crazy slow responding to emails as well. Disappointing to say the least.
I personally used to love Bella gypsy stuff that was new last summer. Then I bought some older stuff- that thankfully has been retired!! Too many acrylic-y pieces and almost every kit seemed to have a quality issue on a paper or ellie. I'm not impressed with their new stuff since they moved to SO last year. Very formulaic. I do tend to like their word art in the kits
116: the week off wasn't unplanned: they said it was for a site redesign. Lots of sites take time off when a site has to be redesigned. (But it seems "worse" when the site only posts once a week, like the Digi Dares).
And the due date problem...didn't they making it right by giving you an extra week? They explained the date mix-up (for those who caught it), and then they gave you an extra week. It means you have more time to scrap, which I'd think was a good thing.
But I admit I really like the digi dares (and you usually get a coupon from the sponsor just for reading the little bio/interview). A few burps during a site redesign don't bother me. I wish more scrappers would participate, but I like a little bit of competition.
If the week off was planned - then why did ^^
not OP, but Digidares keep coming back with "you've got one more week!" Be upfront.
And yes - giving an extra week for the first dare back does correct that they gave out the wrong due date first. But hey- let's focus on the REAL solution being to get your shit together and stop messing up and making excuses.
I really like Dream Big Design's stuff. They're mor e kid-oriented but I have 2 kids that I can use a lot of the stuff for.
Fuuny, I think Bella Gypsy's word art is some of the worst things in their kits. It's often not immediately apparent what the WA is-- words split in weird ways and such.
I like Dream Big too. Some of her colors are a little darker then I'd choose, but I really like how she does her elements and what themes she's done. I have quite a few of her kits (and no - I'm not a ct member, and I don't even hang at SO much).
I haven't been able to find anything I like at SO for ages. Like going on two years now.
^I know what you mean. Actually, I've been having a hard time finding much of anything I think is worth buying for a long time now. In the past year to 18 months, I've bought maybe 3 things.
The last 2 years I only shop at SO 2 times a year when they have the Farmer's Market and then I spend my points buying whatever else I want.
I don't see many things I would buy at regular price or 30% off.
I'm glad WM[squared] Designs is finally back with some good designs. She was top dog at Scrap Matters but since she moved to SO I wasn't too impressed by her kits.
Sugary Fancy is making lovely things lately.
Kristin Aagard: I once used to love her style but I guess I'm not into cartoon people anymore. I don't have kids so her style doesn't suit me.
Or maybe I have too many of her kits already.
I think I have tons of digi supplies and I'm can't be easily impressed anymore. I have spent a fortune and have every kind of flower, ribbon, button out there.
There comes a time when you lose your digi customer mojo.
I'm sick of seeing the same themes over and over again.
I'm 135.
Although I have tons of stuff I would still buy some of these themes that are not that common. Yes there are 10-20 kits out there but that's not enough. Not all of them are good.

-----------------------
I think this is me as well. In the past couple of years, I've only bought maybe 3 to 5 things-anywhere.
If you think baby's first year kits are uncommon, you don't get around enough. Good grief, there are tons of them. But I will agree with you that many of them are bad.
#138 Recommend me a few good ones.
Because I have almost all the kits from the famous designers in the top shops and I'm not impressed. I tried to scrap a baby album for my best friend and had trouble finding good elements.
The only kit I liked and used a lot was Megan Fisher's Baby's first year. Of course it was a 3 part kit if I'm correct.
I just checked my baby stash and I have a total of 180 previews from kits to brag books to wordarts and imagine I don't even have a kid and I don't have much baby stuff compared to other themes.
I'm crazy, I know..
139, unfortunately I can't recommend any good ones that are still available for sale. The only ones that I have and like are at least 3 years old.
I did say that I agree with you that many of them are bad ;) Maybe I should have said virtually all of them are bad!!
In a "What the hell was I thinking" moment, I bought one from somebody at SSD-both the girl and boy parts, and I haven't used it at all. I could kick myself for that purchase b/c I don't think I ever will use it for anything. I ought to just delete it.
I just realized that Megan Fisher retired.
I also realised that I like that hand drawn style.
Similar designs that I also likes and have retired.

These designers were very creative and I have no idea if they used CU products or not, but each time a new kit came out it was something new.
It's sad that these talented designers have retired and there are sooo many out there with horrible designs-taste and using so many cu products.
Everyone must be having a great holiday since it is quiet in here!
Some of my favorite kits regarding the themes 136 mentioned. Not sure if they're still available.

I won't be shocked if I already own most of these kits..
Thanks to poster #143 for being so helpful with your list :)

It is crap, but then again you have to remember this store and others just like it cater to the signature tag crowd, so honestly this has nothing much to do with traditional scrappers. You gotta realize there are different types of designers out there, and 99 percent of those smacked here are those more traditional scrappers or wannabe scrappers, but let each type of designer have their area of talent, or in some cases no talent.
Joyce just officially announced the merge of MScraps and Scrapflower.
Another ton of designers moving over to the already too full MScraps.
And wasn't it clear to everyone that Scrapflower couldn't last?
yes, not a surprise here.
Who are reliable CT members? Ones whose layouts may not be noticed - people who aren't included in the "in" crowd? I'm curious. I just want to see who and what their pages look like? Are there certain CT's or stores that seem to have reliable/creative people? Maybe I'll make a list, instead of a headache/heartache of a call. I'd rather have quality scrappers than ones who bail after a month or two.
whatever happened to lisa siseneros (sp)? I think she was the old owner of ScrapFlower?
reliable cts? your best bet look at designers that you think have the style you love, and produce quality on a regular basis and look at their gallery. You will see many names overlap of good pages. You can look at a calendar and see if they are producing pages for them on a reliable basis. You alone know what kind of quality you want. Look to the stores you would want to sell in, and see who has been there more than 3 months. :) if the store releases on certain days, how long until CT uploads. Usually they same layouts will appear at the main sites. It isn't real hard to see those that produce great pages with a good attitude.
I'm not sure what to think of this:
http://wilma4ever.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=52_210&products_id=22507
Obviously going for a real life full figure, but ???
and obviously I'm not into tagger posers of any shape in bikini's, but there are also two other sets in jeans.
It does resemble my current body shape more than I like, but I wouldn't scrap with that anymore than I would wear that bikini in real life.
Is this empowering for all the young girls out there with full figures?
152 - No, but maybe it's empowering to girls with elf ears.
Wow!! I just saw Suzy Q's new repackaging of her old kits and they look totally different, 10 times better.
I just realised how important good packaging is.
Copyright police! Here ya go!
http://www.mscraps.com/shop/mscraps-pow/
Well then. I guess we can all assume mscraps was not the shop sued for copyright infringement lol
The mscraps logo gives me hives.
151-You are right on everything you posted. There are a LOT of really good CTMs out there. Most of them are on multiple teams, as the word gets out they are reliable and do their work well and on time. I have several girls on my team that are on about 10 teams. I've checked them out with the other designers they ct for before choosing them. They have been with me for up to 2 years now.
I agree that SuzyQ's previews look far better. I also think it's kind of ironic as so many people have tried to emulate her previous preview style (ie:elements spread out all over the page) and here she has turned it on it's head with this elements clustered in meaningful ways in the center of the page approach.
I kind of both resent her for having the balls to teach a class on designing and then turn on her own ideas, and respect her at the same time for being able to see past her own ego and grow.
The mscraps logo gives me hives.
^^^
It makes me realize as soon as I land on the page that it's not the site for me.
I had a HORRIBLE experience with mscraps customer service. I will never EVER EVER spend .01 there again.
154 and 159- WTF are you talking about?
With the exception of collabs, it looks like the only difference is the SO vs SBG packaging when I compared the new previews to those on her blog. For example:
http://suzyqscraps.com/2013/01/24/winner-sweethearts-collection/
http://suzyqscraps.com/2012/12/22/play-date-memories-moments-winter/
http://shop.scrapbookgraphics.com/SuzyQ-Scraps/
I think they are comparing her older kits, like this:
http://suzyqscraps.com/2011/04/13/an-unlikely-pair-bunny-imposters-and-sunshine/
and
http://shop.scrapbookgraphics.com/Sunshine-Digital-Scrapbook-Kit.html
I agree.
That SO preview with the angle has always been hideous.
Copyright police! Here ya go!
http://www.mscraps.com/shop/mscraps-pow/
and you think what has been copyrighted and used in this kit??? I see absolutely nothing with a copyright so just wondering what I"m not seeing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman_logo
How much would you pay for an Alpha? (All letters, numbers and symbols - Upper and Lower, not part of a kit)
I'm surprised at prices I see... $2.99, $3.49, $3.99 and over $4!! I guess they are all like that... I just looked at SBG, SM, SO, and SSD.... Looks like I'm not a stand alone alpha buyer!
So, designers - how do you determine costs of element packs, kits or bundles? I'm just curious after looking at the alphas
I wonder if alphas, priced at that point is not just a marketing strategy: seeing that the alpha costs $3 and the clusters cost $3, and the wordarts cost $3 and so on if bought separately, it just gives an anchor point to then say "the bundle is only $12 instead of $20 if purchased separately". Maybe they rarely sell those separately, but it just makes the bundles look better?
Dammit, I wish designers would check the freebies their CTs are offering. I downloaded a QP freebie from one of Connie Prince's girls today and there are jaggies all over the paper edges. Do designers not realize how this reflects on them if their CT members are offering up shitty freebies?
SO's site is just so juvenile looking. Even if their products aren't, I don't really know, because the overall site design makes me feel like they are and I rarely get off the home page.
"Dammit, I wish designers would check the freebies their CTs are offering. I downloaded a QP freebie from one of Connie Prince's girls today and there are jaggies all over the paper edges. Do designers not realize how this reflects on them if their CT members are offering up shitty freebies?"
Wow, such a big reaction over a free gift. Just delete it. It was free, after all. And, aren't the QPs made from Connie's designs? Not the CTs fault. They are not designers. Why so entitled? I dislike your attitude, and I doubt that will change anything.
Not the OP but I'm sure she will just delete it. And I'm sure she won't dl or buy from Connie Prince.
And maybe it won't change anything.
But maybe it will considering how many designers read here.
169 - You say that as if all her CT's freebies are bad. State which one is bad so we can figure out if it's Connie's products or the CT. I'm not about to download everything on her blog to figure it out and I'm sure she wouldn't either.
It's like emailing a designer that one of their elements in one of their kits is jagged. You really think that lack of specific is going to inspire any change?
It's comments like yours that make me believe some scrappers don't give a shit about making things right, they just want to bitch.
I can't speak for all of her freebies, but I did download the one posted yesterday, the Sweeter Than Sweet QP. If that's the one #169 is talking about, I see what she means. The scallops are jagged and so are the papers. The photo opening has jagged edges, too. In this case, it's seems to be a CT issue and not a designer issue.
Not the op but its not my job to qc blog freebies
Anyone out there see that Traci Reed has started a new business doing podcasts to teach designers and other crafters how to make money on their business? If not, I recommend listening to her first podcast. Not the entire thing, mind you, but just listen beginning at around 7:15 or so. You will get a huge laugh! She's so clueless about how she presents herself to the world online.
"My biggest pet peeve and what I think people need to work on the most is how they present themselves on the internet." = Traci Reed
LMAO! Just yesterday, this was one of her comments on the SSD facebook page right there for the shop's customers to read and everything: "I make pretty journal cards so screw you both :P"
If I were Robin, I'd be getting Traci in check ASAP and probably banning her from teaching a class on the proper way to present yourself on the internet so as to grow your business. SMH.
Was her "screw you both" comment on the PL thread? Because it's not there anymore. Guess someone is reading here and getting her attitude in check, huh?
But really, I am sure she was responding to one or two of her "friends" and that is the problem with SSD, overall. The designers and babes have certain customers they regard as "friends" and will have their conversations in public with those friends on the forum and on the facebook page. And I don't think one of them stops to consider how exclusionary it feels to the rest of their buying customers when they're not "in" on the inside jokes. I think they could do a better job of keeping it friendly, but professional, in their public spaces -- and equally divide their attention to all their customers, and not just the few they think are cool enough to talk to.
Never mind, I found it and it IS still there. And just like I thought, she was engaged in a personal conversation with her pets Laura and Trish.
Not the "trash the feebie" conversation again. Don't you guys get tired of that? I sure do. Just don't download freebies if you think they are trash.
Maybe Traci should focus more on how she presents herself in a professional manner on the internet - by proofreading her newsletters. She just sent one out about the new podcast thingy and at the bottom in giant bold print she misspelled "BUISNESS" and I get that typos happen, but they shouldn't happen if you're trying to market yourself as someone who can teach others how to present yourself professionally in the biz. Someday maybe she will grow up and get a clue.
180 it's not about trashing a freebie. It's about designers who don't realize that if they don't control their business (in other words, QC the freebies they have their CTMs make for them) then it reflects badly on them and deters people from wanting to buy what they're selling. It's lazy.
Then again, maybe Connie Prince should sign up for Traci Reed's new classes. *eyeroll*
Isn't Traci like late-20s or early-30s? This would explain a lot. I remember 10 years ago when I was that age thinking that I knew everything about everything. You wouldn't have been able to convince me otherwise. It's that age when people start to feel like they've finally grown up and aren't 20 anymore, but yet haven't lived enough to really have a clue and know that they don't really know anything yet. 10 years makes a big difference, and I look back at myself a decade ago and wonder how many people thought I was a self-important ass? I am sure I will say the same thing in another 10 years when I look back at my 40-ish self too.
Good point 183 - but there are a ton of Traci haters here that will always find something to nitpick about her no matter what. I don't care one way or another about her (I like her designs & buy the kits I want, that's all there is to it for me, at the end of the day anyways). But yeah - there are some that just hate her with a passion, and they vent here about it all the time. Giving an excuse for her behavior won't help - they won't shut up ever, so it's best just to ignore them and eventually they'll move on.
Traci's "screw you" comment is extremely unprofessional. Even if it's a reply to her pets, it's on the SSD page, and that's horribly tacky. It doesn't encourage me, as a shopper, to visit.
If you're going to run a business and teach people about running a business, you better act like a business woman. No matter what age you are. Traci's age is no excuse for her being trashy on SSD's fanpage.
Who would be a good designer to teach people about running a business? Just curious....
I'm 183 and I wasn't trying to excuse her behavior AT ALL. Didn't mean to give that impression. I just meant that she obviously thinks she knows everything, and it will be years before she understands why the rest of us perceive her to be such a snotty, stuck-up, know-it-all. I listened to her podcast out of curiosity (15 minutes of my life that I will never get back), and was astounded at how full of herself she is. Having confidence is one thing. Making statements like "in my infinite wisdom and knowledge" and "I realize that I have learned a lot in this industry and keeping it to myself and failing to share it with everyone else would be selfish and wrong" etc is just going to turn people off. Plain and simple. And it will likely be a decade before she understands why the rest of us feel that way. No trust me I was not trying to excuse her behavior at all. I have had it up to here with Traci Reed.
187, I think I'd love to hear more from people who are really successful, but are also quiet and aren't in your face all the time telling you how great they are. People like Kristin Cronin-Barrow. Or Kate Hadfield. Or Liz of Paislee Press. Or Nicole Seitler. I've always admired their work, and their marketing seems more professional and less "be my friend, I'm needy!"
I almost choked. Nicole Seitler is the queen of telling people how great she is and how much she knows and how crappy all the lesser scrappers pages are and the right way to scrap and the right way to shove a stick up your ass.
The others are much more humble for sure - and all of them, even Nicole, are far more talented than Traci Reed.
#187 - NOT Royanna!!
189- I'm with 190 on this.
The posting of the LO with the thread title and topic "this layout is useless without journaling. Why would you do that?" As the gist while owner of TDC comes to mind as well.
KCB might act more professional than- oh I don't know traci reed- but as a costumer I don't love that I know she is always working right up until the last minute. That's not professional. Mistakes also happen when you're working late or rushing.
I know tons of designers that are professional and wonderful to ct with and/or buy from. I've also read here long enough to know not to bring up a name unless I want them smacked lol
^^^
I can't speak for other designers, but for me, I don't increase the prices of alphas or clusters to make the bundle look like a better value. Alphas take ages to make - even if its the same alpha in multiple colors they take ages to make. I actually look at designers who sell alphas for dirt cheap and wonder how they can do that to themselves. Similarly, clusters take a lot of careful work.
Bundles are discounted because it's a trade off - I am making a bigger dollar amount on the whole bundle, so I am willing to make less per piece. It works like that with volume buying everywhere.
I also don't sell primarily bundles - lots of customers will buy just the it, or just an addon, or the kit plus one addon. People who love it all go for the bundle, but not everyone.
cUstomer not costumer. Lol!
Of course designers should QC blog freebies, if they represent their brand. If they don't it means they don't understand how important blog freebies are.
So Nicole Seitler once started a thread at TDC (while owner) that people got upset about because she questioned why someone would make a page with no journaling. I do remember that. But other than that one episode, what else has she ever done that presents a holier-than-thou attitude? I still stand by my list @ 189. She's talented, as are the others I named, and I don't hear any of them spouting off on facebook or in the forums or elsewhere about how great they are in the same manner that Traci Reed does every minute of every day. I remember the incident you referred to above, but that's all I remember negatively about Nicole. Other than that (and I'm willing to give people a pass now and then) I'd listen to most anything she'd be willing to pass along. She's very talented and she has built a solid business for herself over the years even despite a bad decision in one forum post at TDC. Hold a grudge much?
Didn't Nicole start an entire blogsite about how to educate people on the right way to scrap?
Scrapflower is now all CU. :)
Does Scrapflower have only 5 designers? I thought it was much bigger than that.
197- that sounds very familiar
And 196- I am 195. I don't hold a grudge. I really don't care about her. It was more of a true LOL moment that someone who would post a photo of another's LO as evidence for a thread about people scrapping wrong (she might have even said "I don't get it") is humorous. There are tons of other exampls, that just happens to be particularly offensive and the first thing that came to mind
