Nobody? How the hell do you know what people care about? Are you the all-knowing mind reader around here? Just because you don't care doesn't mean others don't.
-------

I'm still waiting for your answer ...

Anonymous said...

If that's all the OP sees on the previews and there's no description, then the designer is doing herself a disservice, isn't she?
--
Well, yeah, however that's not really relevant to anything. The point was that was ALL that was in the kit. My question was how does the op know that.
------

Because that's all she saw.

Anonymous said...

Papers, buttons, and ribbons... Sounds like Gina miller

Because the designer clearly stated in the item description that the kit had "XX papers and XX coordinating flowers, ribbons, and buttons"

Sorry I left off the flowers in my OP, but still...

Does anyone knows of any good template designers? I usually buy Rainy Dayz Designs' templates but her store is closed temporarily. I need to get some similar templates like she makes. Not too crazily-packed with elements but not too minimalist-ly empty...

Something like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TfXYuvdayYg/UgbuMZEt7II/AAAAAAAADXY/A01BfahW4YI/s640/rdd-lazydays-LRG.jpg

I'm aware of a few template designers like Fiddle Dee but I think her templates lack focus. Little Green Frog's are nice but they look similar. Would appreciate it if anyone could point me to some designers similar to Rainy Dayz Designs' style. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

There's several great template designers depending on what you like: Scrapping w/Liz at Scrap Orchard, Nettio and Cindy Schneider at SSD, AKDesigns at Scraps N Pieces Store, North Meets South at Gotta Pixel, Meagan's Creations at Scrap Matters and many, many others. Just look through the stores. You should be able to find something you like. There's a ton of template designers out there.

Anonymous said...

I forgot about the flowers in my OP but still...
__
Yeah, you forgot about it because it helped you make your point more. Several kits are predominately ribbons, buttons and flowers. Don't like it; don't buy it. That will get a msg. to the designer faster than anything else!

Anonymous said...

Amber Morrison...I find I use hers over and over. Southern Serenity Designs at the Digichick.

Anonymous said...

OMG, now this is turning into a ISO thread? FFS people. It's also really transparent when you enable yourself, Amber.

Anonymous said...

12 - I'm #8. Sorry if it annoys you. I don't know a lot of shops or designers so I thought I should ask those who do.

9 & 11 - Thanks for your suggestions.

Anonymous said...

Find a forum. You can't possibly be telling me that the only digi site you know about is this one. BULLSHIT.

Anonymous said...

I use a lot of Aprilisa's templates. You can find her at GingerScraps and gotta Pixel. I probably use more of hers than anybody elses. She usually makes a grab bag once a month or so, and you get 4 packs of templates for about 4.00, so that is when I buy them. I was going to post about Amber Morrison at TDC--but I see that someone else already did. I'm not Amber--don't know if the other person was or not. I like her templates and I love Rainy Dayz templates too.

Anonymous said...

stop the insanity

Anonymous said...

Anyone who's been around this blog for very long knows that the LAST thing you want is for your name to show up on this blog. People who actually like someone's products don't enable them here, because it never ends well. So IMO the only people who would be on this blog enabling designers would be those designers themselves, especially new designers like Amber who don't know any better.

Amber stop. It's not going to end well for you.

Anonymous said...

People who actually like someone's products don't enable them here, because it never ends well.
-----

that's not true, I wouldn't say never. most of the time though, it doesn't end well.

Anonymous said...

So, if by someone's logic around here, if #11 is Amber, then #8 must be Rainy Dayz and #9 must be all those other people and #15 must be Aprilisa. Who knew?

Anonymous said...

Shut up 19 you get the point, and if you read the tone of the Amber posts it's pretty obvious. I'm not the OP who called her on it but I would have to agree.

"I was going to post about Amber Morrison at TDC--but I see that someone else already did. I'm not Amber--don't know if the other person was or not. I like her templates"

Um OK

If you consider yourself an intermediate or advanced user of Photoshop (or PS Elements), do you still purchase templates?

If you are an advanced user - why do you purchase templates when you have the skills to make your own? I'm asking sincerely, not trying to be snarky. Is it for the convenience? Takes too long to make yourself? Feel like other designers have a better design or style compared to yourself?

Or do you think it's just beginners that buy templates?

Anonymous said...

I've been using PS for years, scrapping for years, and designing for years and I still use other designer's templates (and kits too for that matter). When I have time to scrapbook, I like being able to do it quickly without thinking too much about it. I make my own layouts too, but sometimes it's nice to just use a template so my brain can go on vacation. Same thing for kits. I could make anything I could buy, yes, but if someone else has already done the work and it turned out cute, then why reinvent the wheel? The variety makes it more fun than scrapbooking with my own products all the time, which I do too.

Anonymous said...

Who the hell is Amber MOrrison? Never heard of her before.

Anonymous said...

I just looked her up and first of all, her templates are way too busy and cluttered for what the OP is looking for and second of all, what in the world happened to the Digi Chick?

Anonymous said...

The Fix is better this month than it has been the last couple of months.

Tiffany said...

"If you consider yourself an intermediate or advanced user of Photoshop (or PS Elements), do you still purchase templates?"

I consider myself an intermediate or advanced user. I make most of my pages with templates. I like the organization they provide, and I can make the page my own from there. I suppose the blank canvas is hard for me to conquer, but I don't see any reason why I need to conquer the blank page. I'm not a designer, and I don't think I need to be a designer to feel confident in my memory keeping.

Anonymous said...

Who the hell is Amber MOrrison? Never heard of her before.

You haven't been around much then.

Anonymous said...

Using templates has nothing to do with how experienced one is.

Anonymous said...

I just looked her up and first of all, her templates are way too busy and cluttered for what the OP is looking for and second of all, what in the world happened to the Digi Chick?
-
What do you mean what happened to the Digi Chick?

Anonymous said...

24, my question exactly. I can't understand why they would take on those two new designers, especially "Sweet Boutique"/Teresa Digi Scraps. I've always found her designs to be rather ugly and amateurish with bland palettes. I thought she would retire after Scrapable closes.

Anonymous said...

I'm not a designer, and I don't think I need to be a designer to feel confident in my memory keeping.

-----

Nice come back.

Anonymous said...

Or do you think it's just beginners that buy templates?
--
Absolutely not. If you read any of the scrap forums, you'd see a good percentage of those with lots of experience scrap with them more often than not.

Anonymous said...

If you are an advanced user - why do you purchase templates when you have the skills to make your own? I'm asking sincerely, not trying to be snarky. Is it for the convenience?
----------

Convenience. It's quicker to use pre-made when I'm making photo books as gifts.

It's like asking, if you can bake, why buy cookies, cake, ready made pastry or a loaf of bread - sometimes it's just quicker and easier to do so.

Anonymous said...

Who the hell is Amber MOrrison? Never heard of her before.
--
You haven't been around much then.
------

Not the OP, but around where? I've never heard of her either and I've been around since 2005 or so.

Anonymous said...

Convenience. It's quicker to use pre-made when I'm making photo books as gifts.
__

Especially so when I'm making a 30-40 page book and want it done for a particular occasion or sale.

Anonymous said...

30 -- She has HORRIBLE quality on a lot of things too. Lots of jaggies and she doesn't add texture to her word art, alpha, etc. It is really hard to scrap with something that's as flat looking as her stuff.

Anonymous said...

I'm #30 and I've never bought her stuff, so I don't know about the quality issues. Maybe she's improved??

Anonymous said...

#12 I am #11 and most definitely not Amber Morrison. So STFU!!!! You don't know what you are talking about!

Anonymous said...

#17 read above!

#12 I am #11 and most definitely not Amber Morrison. So STFU!!!! You don't know what you are talking about!

Unfortunately, posters like that will not EVER stfu. They absolutely HATE it when something positive is said about someone/anyone and will accuse the person saying something complimentary as having ulterior motives. It's absolutely illogical and ludicrous that people such as these think the only way someone can have something good and decent said about them and/or their work is through deception.

Anonymous said...

So IMO the only people who would be on this blog enabling designers would be those designers themselves, especially new designers like Amber who don't know any better.

Amber stop. It's not going to end well for you.
__
This is the kind of post that is so ridiculous it's comical. I talk about people all the time on here when I like their work just as I do when I don't. The dramatic admonishment at the end telling "Amber to stop" and warning her that it won't end well for her reminds me of something a twelve-year-old would say. Makes me wonder how this person would react in a REAL crisis.

Anonymous said...

It doesn't make sense that one person says no designer wants their name mentioned here, then someone else says it's the designer herself posting about her product. Think about it.

It makes perfect sense if you read the original statement, which was that only a new designer with no experience would do this because they don't know any better. Learn to read.

Flergs is closing store at SBG.

Anonymous said...

Arguing with each other isn't nearly as fun as smacking designers and scrappers. When are we getting back to that?

We can start by talking about Flergs again now that someone brought her back up!

Anonymous said...

Wow, wonder which store she's moving too. She's been at SBG forever ... is there a story behind this one?

Anonymous said...

According to her FB page, she's taking some time off until a guest spot in December.

Anonymous said...

If you read her blog entry, it seems like she'll be reopening elsewhere.

Anonymous said...

What 116 says makes no sense. If she's not leaving digi, then why in the world would she take time off and miss out on November? Nobody with a brain wants to be shopless over DSD.

Anonymous said...

Really surprising news, I remember a while back she had a funny post on her blog - something about guess where my store will be next year. Then at the end of it, said at SBG of course, it'll always be SBG. Wonder what happened there to make her leave and look for another store. She's been there since I started digi.

Anonymous said...

My guess is the SweetShoppe. Her stuff would fit in well there I think.

Studio Flergs - It won't be forever. I have a guest spot in December!

Anonymous said...

No way is she returning to SBG. If she was just taking a break there would be no need to close her store. And if her store was enabled during all of the upcoming sales times in November people would buy from her even if no new releases.

She is obviously moving stores people!

Anonymous said...

Flergs was always one of those snotty bitches who would go on and on about how a real, quality designer like herself didn't have to release new products regularly and have great sales figures.

If she was still making her sales quotas while not releasing products, she wouldn't be closing her shop while she takes a break.

Welcome to reality, Flergs.

Anonymous said...

snotty? did you know that she was a regular at DST that would for no reason, just RAK people! I know because that is how I found her, years ago. A PM there giving me a huge kit, a whole bundle. I have heard bad things here and there, but I know she showed kindness to me, and have heard others say the same. Many of her CT have gone on to design and do well. I am saddened that you didn't get along with her. She makes me smile. I look forward to seeing what transpires in her digital career.

Anonymous said...

I might start following Flergs if she leaves SBG.

Anonymous said...

Oh my, if she "went on and on" about being a quality designer, etc. then you must have several places we can go look at her posts stating such. So where did she do this shameless boasting? Fill us in, please!

Anonymous said...

127, I'm not the OP but I remember that one of my first tastes of Flergs was a blog post she did a few years ago about how "real" designers don't just recolor CU but they make it their own. It was a really good point that was totally lost because her tone was so condescending and bitchy. Very "holier than thou" for whoever wrote that phrase up above. ;-)

Anonymous said...

I'm not fond of her designs. I downloaded some free things of her once and I'm sure I never used it. I wish her well though, and hope she finds what she is looking for in life.

Anonymous said...

I always thought her stuff was cute (although omg enough with the glitter already), but agree with those above that her arrogance was fierce. Total turnoff.

Anonymous said...

126. I'm the opposite. I might start shopping at SBG now that Flergs is leaving.

Anonymous said...

I used to really like Flergs and looked forward to a sale at her store. Over the last while I just look at her kits and think 'meh',

Anonymous said...

I am a designer and I used to really look up to Flergs. But over the last year or so - I have really grown and she hasn't. I looked to buy at her sale but everything is kind of meh.

Anonymous said...

I have a big wishlist that I'm looking to fill at her closing sale. Her stuff is cute for kid photos. Someone mentioned that they were out of gamut, but I haven't checked to see if it's true.

It would appear that Maya is getting very desperate. I got spammed by her this weekend. I haven't bought anything at SBG in well over a year, and have never been on the mailing list there but nevertheless I got a newsletter from her (about a Photoshop course) on Saturday? Anyone else get this?

Anonymous said...

143 - I received that as well and wondered why. I don't get their newsletters, either. I haven't purchased anything from there in awhile either (at least a year). I wondered the same thing as you and just deleted it.

Anonymous said...

I didn't receive that newsletter but I still receive them from GDS, despite multiple requests to be removed from their mailing list.

I'm on their mailing list but I got it on another account that is not on their mailing list. Both emails are registered in their shop as customers though. It's not technically spam if you are a registered customer, is it? I have purchased from them in the last week.

Is SBG an exclusive store?

Anonymous said...

148 - yes it is

Anonymous said...

I am a designer and I used to really look up to Flergs. But over the last year or so - I have really grown and she hasn't.

Way to toot your own horn there. I wonder if the rest of us would agree.

Anonymous said...

I got the SBG email too. Haven't purchased from them in well over two years. Reported it as spam to my email provider.

Which blog trains do you frequent?

Anonymous said...

DSF and DST

___

I was always led to believe that there is a statute of limitations on how long a company can contact you after you make a purchase. I think it's 6 months? If you haven't purchased anything from the company within that time limit and they contact you based on a previous transaction, then they're abusing CAN-SPAM laws.

Flergs is going to end up at the Sweet Shoppe. Mark my words!

Anonymous said...

157, if she does I will never shop there again. What a twat (and I mean Robin).

_____

I had given up on blog trains almost completely until this summer when they started the DS Parade. So far I think it's the only one out there that I'd waste my time and hard drive space on.

I think she would be a great addition to the sweetshoppe, I love her stuff and it would fit in nicely there. Hope it happens :)

Ditto. Her designs fit in with SSD much moreso than SBG. She did a collab w/Jady Day last Christmas that's one of my faves.

Why is Robin a twat? Is it because she has a really successful store and appears to be well liked and respected by her customers and designers? Is it because the customer service at SSD is prompt and friendly? Oh, maybe as the store owner, it's because she ensures there are regular sales, freebies and new releases of product? Yeah, damn her!

Do you even know Robin?

Anonymous said...

did you know that she was a regular at DST that would for no reason, just RAK people!
---------

She had a reason - it was called marketing. She was very good at it.

Anonymous said...

I got a newsletter from her (about a Photoshop course) on Saturday? Anyone else get this?
--------

Yep and it annoyed me. Mostly because of the claims being made that she negotiated the deal of having the course offered at half price. I saw that course offered two weeks ago at, guess what ... half price.

Anonymous said...

Oh my, if she "went on and on" about being a quality designer, etc. then you must have several places we can go look at her posts stating such. So where did she do this shameless boasting? Fill us in, please!
----------

If memory serves, she did it a few times in the Designer forum at DST but at the time she was everyone's darling, so they just lapped it up. This is going back four or five years.

Anonymous said...

Wow, wonder which store she's moving too. She's been at SBG forever ... is there a story behind this one?
-------------

I honestly think baby #3 is keeping her busier than she thought it would. Prior to and after having him, she was hardly releasing anything, compared to the regular releases she used to do. I'm not even a fan of hers but to me it seems that life got in the way. And before anyone asks how do I know about the releases if I'm not a fan? I'm subbed to the SBG FB page and they posted about her sale, so I checked out her FB page. Yeah, I'm like, that sometimes I don't have anything better to do, which is why I'm here in the first place.

Anonymous said...

*Yeah, I'm like that, sometimes ... etc.

So much double checking and I still made an error.

#159, what is DS?

Anonymous said...

DS = Digi Scrap

Anonymous said...

162 and 164, go back to the designer forum at SSD and report that you did your job and kept the smack blog in check! Good boy. Pat pat.

And yes, I know Robin well enough to call her a twat. Whether she has a successful store has nothing to do with it. She's a twat either way.

Anonymous said...

#171 - I'm not finding the site??

Anonymous said...

173 it's the Digi Scrap Parade

Anonymous said...

Another designer leaving SHC, Just Jamiee.

Where else do y'all shop for cu?

Anonymous said...

I've been trying not to buy CU anymore.

Is it me or does Jaime move a lot. I know for CU she's stayed put for a while but for PU it seems like she is all over the place.

I bet Jaimee is going to TLP. She guested there forever.

#176 - really? how so? She's been guesting a lot and been in 2 store that shut down. How is that 'all over the place?

what about their designer?

Umm, what about them? I have never shopped at any of them. Haven't even heard of two of those mentioned.

You really think the only people who like and respect Robin are her designers? Seriously, you're really out of touch.

Oh, and her success has EVERYTHING to do with it. Your post drips with jealousy. You give NO reason for calling her a twat just that you are sure she is one. No matter what YOU think or say, she is successful and well-liked by her designers and customers. So you can act like a child (a very young one) and call her all the names you like if it makes you feel better.

after reading this blog for over 5yrs , this month has to be one of the lowest posts ever. Is everyone over it or has there just been a lack of anything to bitch about.
I haven't been shopping in ages so just checked out a few stores, nothing that just grabs me and forces me to bring out the plastic. . Getting to pickie, or I've just seen it all before. I like the new trend watch at TLP.

Anyone want to point me to some fabulous , funky designers (not at the TLP, SSB or SBG. )cheers

Funny thing, I was reading old posts on this blog yesterday and she was apparently leaving SHCO in June or July last year.

What do you like? I have a fondness for Anna Aspnes, Paula Kesselring and Cinzia Loosemore over at Oscraps. I also like Tumblefish Studios at Deviant Scrap.

Both I should think.

from STO today:

Our public forums will be closing Oct 1st, with the exception of the Sales Window and the Customer Service Counter, so that we can help keep you up to date on all the latest happenings, sales and goodies on our site. Our Wall of Fame will be ending too. The store is NOT closing, nor is the gallery...just our public forum. We are taking a little bit of a different direction beginning Oct 1st, and we think you'll enjoy it ♥ Stay tuned to our fan page and blog for the latest news!

Also, we have some new faces coming to the store next month! We're super excited to be welcoming several designers to our Culinary Specialist team, so keep your eyes peeled and your plates ready!

So, how long before another store bites the dust? It's actually lasted longer than I thought it would.

What are tubes? I mean in the digital design realm. I know about bike tubes, fallopian tubes, tube tops, etc ... Thanks!!

Who is STO? I don't see it on the list above.

STO = Scrap Take Out as far as I know.

Tubes - They are used in Paint Sho Pro, they are similar to brushes in photoshop.

They are more like clipart than can be used as brushes because they can be in color or not. PS Brushes are more limited.

-------------------------------
Many are like cliparts, but they can also be in "sets" that you can apply with a click, and have them randomly picked (so you can have a dozen different daisies to scatter on your page without having to copy and paste). There are also the directional tubes that are very interesting. There is one that comes with PSP and it creates a rope, wherever you draw with the mouse, in any length or shape. Those are cool.

Anonymous said...

^^^^^

PS brushes can scatter and be directional but they still aren't anywhere near as versatile as PSP tubes.

#186 I had forgotten about Oscraps, will check them out. thank you.

Anonymous said...

Hey 183, just because I have had a bad experience (or string of experiences, to be exact) with another person on this planet - it doesn't make me a child or even wrong. And now I think YOU are a twat, too, for defending someone so exuberantly when you have no idea what my background is with her. I can call her a twat on this blog if I want to. She is a twat. I don't even have to explain myself (as explaining myself would surely out who I am). Fuck you and your "you're a child!" bullshit. TWAT.

Anonymous said...

p.s. 183 if you're not Traci Reed, you're definitely one of her team members. This only amplifies your twattiness.

Anonymous said...

I predict STO will be gone in six months.

How about that. I don't think I even realized STO was still open.
