September: Help Wanted!

Hey, guys!

It's that time... I need to pass the torch. Although this doesn't take up a lot of time, it's just one more thing on a growing list of things I need to do.

So, if someone would like to take over this blog as DigiSmacker, I can give you the account login information. Just shoot me an email or contact me via FB, and we'll get it worked out.

Or, if someone wants to start an entirely new blog, feel free. :)

With all these designers around here surely you'd think people could offer better...
------------
And designers have been complaining of lack of "community feel". Where were the designers when THEIR input was asked? If you (general you) don't get involved, don't expect others to do it for you.

Part of the reason forums and galleries are ugly is that everyone uses the free VBulletin software. We looked at all kinds of forum software for our site and the ones that weren't VB were slow or had very limited functionality. Paid ones weren't much better. Or they were too hard to integrate with a gallery.
Most of us don't have the resources to have one custom built, so we resort to the cheap/free option.
------------------------------------------------
vBulletin is NOT a free forum. Forums like phpBB are open source and free. But any of these forums can be customized. It doesn't take much to change the color of the forum at all.

Anonymous said...

I have to say that I hardly ever post my layouts, i know those on CTs do but because I just make layouts for my own use with kits, I usually just put them on my FB page for my family members too and that is my gallery -- I don't need the public recognition for my page "work" ...

re: the blog train -- I did like the colors but it annoys me when some designers really stray off of the color palette!! Most pieces I wasn't interested in but there were some pieces that I will keep.. I collect flowers, frames, and papers, so the keepers for me were

Jen C and Jusme seem stuck with making their kits out of slightly puffy kraft elements only - ack - just had to say because these 2 crank out kits like they change their underpants and jusme, I wouldn't take not one of her kits for free! Jen C is very hit or miss, mostly miss and really with all of the kraft?

Mandy King - i think it's cute, but big - i like the stitched newspaper frame.
Sweet DigiScraps, like the papers and flowers.
Just Jaimee - nothing to write home about.
Trixie Scraps, I liked the whole mini overall. I like the wood.
Traci Stroud - cute alpha!
Amber Shaw - Nice and clean, i think the flowers and the lacey frame are gorgeous
Metawundalari -cute birds, soft papers
Krystal Harley - gorgeous everything

That was I all I took away

Anonymous said...

I loved Mandy King's kit. She always does a great job. Amber Shaws was very nice too. I loved Just Jaimee's kit also (Probably because I love her style).

Hummie should have to pay $39 a month for us to put up with her.

Anonymous said...

LOL ... yes she should have to pay!

Anonymous said...

to the new smacker that is taking over: Can you have weekly or daily (probably too much) posts instead of monthly? so hard to read through hundreds of posts! just a suggestion!

Anonymous said...

to the new smacker that is taking over: Can you have weekly or daily (probably too much) posts instead of monthly? so hard to read through hundreds of posts! just a suggestion!

^^^

I disagree with this. Having the monthly post is so much better than checking into multiple posts to see what you missed. The old smack blog had new posts sporadically and there would be thousands and thousands of comments - this is way better!

Anonymous said...

I don't see a problem with charging designers the $39/year, and with that, their CTs are allowed to upload more than 2 layouts a day, but I'm not sure how you'd police that. Also, it's hilarious to see all these designers say they don't make enough to be able to afford $39/year for advertising. Here's your sign.

Anonymous said...

Most designers aren't saying they don't make enough. They are saying that what DST is offering for $39 isn't worth that cost since the traffic has decreased.

Anonymous said...

vBulletin is NOT a free forum.
--------
true, not anymore, but it was for years, and the free version is still active on lots of sites including my own. So because it was free it became the default. And have you ever tried to post as a newbie on a phpBB forum? UGH!

Anonymous said...

Hummie should have to pay $39 a month for us to put up with her.
* * *
HA, I'd charge a hell of a lot more than that. She had this snarky thing in her signature about nothing she does being good enough for DST - yet SHE was the one couldn't seem to understand the rules. Most people get it, and if they're out of order it's just a quick correction. Happened to me, I adjusted it, no need for snarky statement. And with the snark under your name every time you comment, you wonder why people jump on you?

Anonymous said...

I admit I only scanned the thread, but I saw more "can't afford" than "isn't worth it".

Anonymous said...

Sorry it was hard for you. I said I was a designer who didn't participate much who would just quietly leave, and I suspected hundreds of others would do the same. You then came back and said there weren't hundreds of active designers - which proves you didn't understand me since I was never talking about active designers.
------

It wasn't hard for me, you weren't very clear. How was I know when you were talking about yourself you were also talking about everyone else.

Thanks for playing.

Anonymous said...

but I would not like it if I posted a layout and then 2 other CT members posted 10 each and my layout is off the page. How would that help MY layout get exposure for my designer? It might be more convenient to be able to upload everything on the same day, but in the end, what is the benefit if nobody has time to view them?
-------

Exactly! But I see that some designers just don't see it like that. If they took the time to see how many views their CTM layouts get, maybe they would rethink their strategy.

Digismacker said...

#8 Sorry, but nothing about the existing format will be changed.

I agree that the current system is much better than the previous blog, and having a monthly thread seems to be working for the majority.

Anonymous said...

"Where were the designers when THEIR input was asked? If you (general you) don't get involved, don't expect others to do it for you."

excellent point, thank you

Anonymous said...

17-from what I read on the thread, several designers said they didn't get an email asking them anything. Since I'm not a designer, I have no idea though.

Anonymous said...

The survey they did was cheesy. I answered it- all 6 questions.

Anonymous said...

It was horrible. Paraphrasing -- Question 1: Have you ever purchased advertising at DST? Question 2: If so, did you feel it was worth it? Radio button answers, and no way to skip #2 since the answer to #1 was no.

Anonymous said...

#18 - I was refering to the colors and the logo for the site redesign. If there are so many designers in the forum, and they could not find anything "that looks good" (as one had mentioned) maybe they did not get many entries and had to pick one from what they got.

Anonymous said...

There were several pleasing to the eye color palettes, but most of the people who responded in the thread voted for the existing one. Bad taste is universal.

Ironically, it's not that dissimilar to the original version, which a lot of people intensely disliked.

Anonymous said...

who the heck is Stella Viaggiatore? She joined DST in February 2007, has made 50 posts and is all over KY rainbow who joined in January 2009 and has 864 comments. She said KY rainbow doesn't participate at DST??

Anonymous said...

#23 - I don't know. Anyway, she didn't say KY Rainbow didn't participate, she said KY Rainbow didn't post in the forums much. I guess all of KY Rainbow's comments are in the gallery. Who really cares?

Anonymous said...

I just thought it was really strange that she'd call someone out for not participating when she did hardly any participating herself.

Anonymous said...

I was thinking the same thing #25.

Anonymous said...

I called her our because she flounced. Flouncers deserve to be called out.

Besides, I never said she didn't participate, some of you need to learn to read. I very clearly said she participated by uploading to the gallery but she didn't post in the forums.

Anonymous said...

Is a position at ScrapMatters a step up from places like Scrappity-doo-dah, Scraptakeout, Stuff to Scrap, Scrapable, etc or is it in the same league?

Anonymous said...

Definitely a step up!

Anonymous said...

#29 And what other stores too ? (for a step up)

Anonymous said...

Pickleberrypop, Gotta Pixel. Not sure about Scrapbook Bytes. It used to be considered a middle tier store, but the owner isn't very reliable these days.

Anonymous said...

23- she did have a point. If KY Rainbow hadn't posted in the forums in a year, what's the point of coming and making a big scene about why she won't be participating in the forum. She obviously already doesn't, and is just stirring the pot (which they both were, but I'm just saying).

Anonymous said...

Also, I venture to guess that the "hobby scrapper" that they all keep pretending to defend would find 2 uploads a day to be sufficient. Even if they did 3 in one day, they could just upload one of them the following day. It's the CT members with lots of teams that are having a big fit about it because they can't upload their 10 layouts on release day or whatever. They aren't "hobbyists". They're doing it as a poorly paying job. Maybe they SHOULD pay for flooding the gallery.

Anonymous said...

KYRainbow is a staff member at DSA. Both she and Sara are using this as a way to promote their own site, which is, much slower and less user friendly than DST.

Sara is an opportunist, that's for sure.

Anonymous said...

There were lots of comments about how it is "important" for so and so to have more than 2 (or 5) uploads in a day for their CT duties. One thing that strikes me is that it is the designers who have those requirements. It is the designers who require the LO to be posted on a particular release day. It is the designers who have DST as a mandatory gallery to post. But why are the designers doing that? What do they REALLY gain by having all those pages in the gallery? How many people go and browse pages after pages? Once a page is off the first or second page, they might be out of the loop (I am guessing here). I don`t browse to page 10 when I go. So if all those designers require all their CT members to post all their LO on the same day, it seems to defeat the very purpose they are using the gallery in the first place.
Anyone can clarify that for me? To me, it does not make sense, and worse, it does not make sense that they want that without any limitation (numbers or $$).

Anonymous said...

That is true #35. Maybe if they keep the limits we'll see designer's policies change to require layouts posted sometime during the week after release.

I actually think that would be smart - no one is dumping batches of layouts in the gallery, and it expands exposure - that designer is ensured that someone will see a layout with their kit on Friday and also on Monday as well. Or whatever.

Anonymous said...

#31 thanks

Anonymous said...

As a designer, layouts are best used in newsletters/blog posts, in product descriptions, and in sneak peek threads - you know, where CUSTOMERS actually look. I require my CT to only post in my stores gallery, my Facebook Fan Page, and in sneak peek threads. Other places used to be important maybe 4 years ago, but certainly not now since most galleries get so few views.

Any designer or CTM putting up a fuss about the 2 pages/day @ DST have no clue what works as far as marketing and what doesn't.

DSA as an alternative is laughable. Their site is beyond SLOW and has next to zero activity. Their monthly Fix is a hot mess filled with crappy products I wouldn't download for free. With all the connections those owners have, one would think they could produce a better site with better product offerings.

Anonymous said...

#38- I agree with you! DSA is filled with a bunch of a-holes who are on staff there. Not very friendly and snotty. It's the poor mans SSD with the same shitty products (The Fix).

Anonymous said...

35-almost ALL the designers I'm associated with have taken DST off the requirement list as of yesterday. Some had already taken it off a few months ago.

Anonymous said...

33-I dare to say if the CTM's quit using DST for their galleries, there won't be many posts there.

Anonymous said...

I dare to say if the CTM's quit using DST for their galleries, there won't be many posts there.
------------
Maybe the "real" scrappers will find it more cozy and use it more. I can definitely see that their layout gets overlooked when there are 10 times more CT layouts.

#40 - Maybe in the end, it is a good way to make it more of a community. I miss the time when one could find things to read and discuss instead of a ton of ads, CT layouts and various commercial promotions. It is almost spammy at this point.

Anonymous said...

I certainly like the idea of adding in some classes and tutorials, a small shop with featured designers, and trying to get a community feel there. I'm the first to admit that I don't hang out there-- ever-- but I would absolutely do it if there was a sense of community, because I'm sick of hanging out at places like SSD or DSA... those are the main reasons I've had zero scrap mojo for months.

Anonymous said...

I miss the community feeling too. But now, it has been overtaken by designers and CT flooding everywhere I look. No fun. There are designers/CT promotions in the ISO, the Challenges/Chats/Games, the Happy Place, the New Products, the Digital Site & Designer Announcements, the New from sponsors, the CTEnabling theads, even the Members Specialties and the calls (yes, it is advertising too). Now how many places are there for "normal scrappers"?

Anonymous said...

Hey, I don't even look at those sections most of the time anymore. I would rather get the newsletter from my favorite stores than sift through pages of threads in DST.

Anonymous said...

42-I'm a CTM, but I consider myself a REAL SCRAPPER. Thank you. I use my own photos, my journaling, and kits from my designers and other ones that I buy myself.

Anonymous said...

#46 - Touchy touchy.

Anonymous said...

they've retracted the pricing at DST.

Anonymous said...

47-yes I am. Thank you. (I'm polite too.)

Anonymous said...

#49 he he

Anonymous said...

Ky Rainbow (Sally) is a bitch. She is so far up Traci Reed's ass you could see the top of her head if you looked in Traci's mouth.

Anonymous said...

#51- I wouldn't say she is a bitch but she is up Traci's ass. Who isn't up Traci's ass?

Anonymous said...

Ok, I just found this site yesterday and think you can answer some questions I have had for a long time. As a customer, I am curious as to what are considered the top tier, middle tier, and lower tier scrapbook stores. I want to make sure I am shopping at the right places. Lol. Also, which designers have quality products AND are they type of individuals whose small business I want to support? Last, what type of income do designers at top tier stores generate monthly?

Anonymous said...

Jesus fucking christ. Go back and read a bit. You will find your questions asked and answered almost every month.

Shopping at the right places? Buy whatever the hell you want. Why do you need a bunch of anons to tell you what to buy?

Anonymous said...

Thank you so much for your answer. For your information, I did read the last three months worth of comments, and I would not be asking if I had found the answers. It seems that SO and SSD have decent designers according to some posters, but after that it is quite murky. Even though posters are anon here, several appeared to have thoughtful responses, and as a new scrapper, I thought it would help if I had some guidance. There is absolutely no need to be so incredibly rude.

Anonymous said...

Hon - its always rude here. Either get used to it, or stop reading here NOW. There is alot of information available on this blog, and its not always easy to weed through it all. It just gets tiresome to have to repeat the same information over and over again. Basically what you have found is NOT an information blog by any means. Its a place where people come to bitch about or have complaints about shops, designers, CT members.

Anonymous said...

53 - NO it's NOT always rude here, just people like 54, that was uncalled for.

I shop at Scrapbookgrahics, Oscraps, Lilypad and a few others. There are so many designers an so many shops, you just have to take a chance and see what works for you.

Since you're new, a couple things you should know, if you mention a designer by name and say anything nice, you will be accused of being said designer.

PLEASE, if you love someone, NEVER mention them here.

If you say you hate a designer or store, you will be accused of not being chosen for a CT spot.

Basically, you need a thick skin to play here.

However, not all of us are snarky, we come here for info we can't get anywhere else.

Anonymous said...

Surprisingly, I do have a thick skin, and it's nice to know the rules! Lol.

Anonymous said...

#55 it all really depends upon your tastes...what type of kits do you like? papery, fantasy, childish/kiddish, shabby? I will tell you some quality designers that I personally like. Each store carries different styles so if you answer that you may get a better answer if some people feel like being nice here (but don't count on it!)

There are some designers I like at both SSD particulary Kristin Cronin Barrow and Krystal Hartely and that is becuase one side of me likes shabby but papery kits. When I want something fun, I like Libby's stuff.

At SO, Bella Gypsy has really grown on me since they moved to that store. I like the bright/fun/cute yet still the papery feel. I enjoy Little Green Frogs templates too.

One my new faves is Amber Shaw, she does shabby really well and since my other side likes fun/bright (but NOT doodly)she has had some cute bright and happy kit latelty that I have gotten from PBP and really like.

I also Ju Kniepp. Does that help?

Anonymous said...

Yes, and I have never heard of Amber or Ju. I like shabby, cute, and papery. I don't like fantasy.

Anonymous said...

It's a smack blog, not a Q&A blog. I don't get why it matters to you who people here consider decent> If you like people's stuff, then buy it?

Anonymous said...

I have purchased several things and been extremely disappointed with the quality, so if you don't have any recommendations on who to buy from, then smack away at whom I should avoid!!

Anonymous said...

23- she did have a point. If KY Rainbow hadn't posted in the forums in a year, what's the point of coming and making a big scene about why she won't be participating in the forum. She obviously already doesn't, and is just stirring the pot (which they both were, but I'm just saying).
-------

Exactly and I was quite obviously stirring the pot.

Anonymous said...

Ky Rainbow (Sally) is a bitch.
------

That was quite obvious from the way she was posting in that thread.

Anonymous said...

#60 and I am assuming #62 is the same person. the suggestions I have given you I have never had an issue with quality. I know "most" of them have been in the Digi Files and if I am correct they have to have quality stuff to be featured there?? I could be wrong.... but I also like the shabby yet papery is my style too. I don't remember how I found Amber and Ju but it was definitely shabby kits with both. They might have freebies on FB or blogs or somewhere that you could check their quality and that could for any designer for that matter!

Anonymous said...

NO it's NOT always rude here, just people like 54, that was uncalled for.
----

Not the OP but I didn't find #54 all that rude. It would been rude and uncalled for if she had said something like - You are a fucking moron, go back and reread all posts - but she didn't say that. She was merely expressing her frustration at seeing the same question which has been asked a zillion times and having to answer that question.

Anonymous said...

Well that's a matter of opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. I DID find it rude, obviously the poster is new here, cut them a little slack.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, yeah, yeah, because a smack blog is the first place I would go to to seek helpful advice.

Anonymous said...

There's always someone trying to pretend they're so nice. Sorry, but if you're so nice, why are you on a blog that was created to gossip and talk about people behind their backs?

Anonymous said...

52--not me.

Anonymous said...

I'm here, and I'm nice. :)

I hear people complaining about the "tier" question constantly, but in all the time I've been here (over a year) I've never seen an actual answer. Here's my opinion:

Top Tier:
Sweet Shoppe Designs
Design House Digital
Scrap Orchard
OScraps
Scrap Matters

I also think that the best designers at these stores are making a minimum of $2K+/month fairly consistently.

Anonymous said...

I have this theory, it's called the Turd Theory.

Person 1 will give you a present. It's prettily wrapped and presented. You are very happy and can't wait to open the present. You open it and find a turd. You are very disappointed.

Person 2 will give a present. It's in a simple brown paper bag. You appreciate the gesture, but don't expect much because of the wrapping. You open it and find a turd. You are still disappointed.

Person 3 will give a present. It's a clear ziploc bag with a turd in it. You refuse it.

While person 3 was the most honest about their gift, you didn't want it. This is why people sell their crap and tell you their crap in nicer packages; because at least you will pay attention. The honest person generally doesn't stand a chance.

Anonymous said...

^ WTF?

Anonymous said...

#72- LOL! There are alot of designers that use the turd theory then.

Anonymous said...

^ WTF?
----

You don't understand or don't get why I posted it? Either way, it's pretty obvious.

Anonymous said...

I LOVED the Turd Theory. Throwing out my Ziploc bags. :)

Yes #71. Agreed.

Traffic has picked up here. Thank you DST.

This blog cracks me up. I live to read it every day and see what tomfoolery is going on. Does that make me a bad person? so be it.

I don't think that we are anonymous to the owner so I still try to behave myself.

Anonymous said...

There are alot of designers that use the turd theory then.
----------

Lots of people use that theory. All the ones that say nasty things but in nice ways.

Anonymous said...

DHD and Oscraps being top tier is laughable.

Anonymous said...

But you have no problem with the other three? Maybe you are the one that is laughable.

Anonymous said...

Scrap Matters?? Top Tier? I don't think so. I'd put M Scraps, After 5 and TDC above Scrap Matters. DHD and OScraps are ok but all flat scrapper stuff.

Anonymous said...

What does flat scrapper stuff mean?

Anonymous said...

I'm probably a flat scrapper. My layouts look a lot like my paper ones did and I love O and DHD

Anonymous said...

#81- I did leave off SM by mistake. That store is laughable too.

Anonymous said...

I'm 71: I'd add TDC, I forgot about them. I wouldn't consider MScraps or A5D top, though.

And I'm a flat scrapper. :)

Anonymous said...

I'm not a flat scrapper and I like Oscraps.

Anonymous said...

they've retracted the pricing at DST.
------

I noticed and I predict that almost everyone who bitched and moaned in the original thread will disappear back into the woodwork.

Anonymous said...

Top Tier is SBG, TLP, SSD and SO

Anonymous said...

Ugh. I think SBG is horrific! Just goes to show!

Anonymous said...

#68 you made me laugh right out loud. That was funny

Anonymous said...

Top tier would depend on your definition. If Top Tier is Person 1 in the Turd Theory ... sadly, this has often been my experience.

Anonymous said...

Something completely different: I applied for Jady Day Studio's CT and didn't make it. Too bad for me but as some sort of 'consolation' she sends everyone who didn't get in a f****** template! A coupon for her store would have been much more appreciated. (As SuzyQ did for the people who didn't make her freelance CT)
(And some don't even send out anything)

Anonymous said...

#93 - wow, a lot of designers don't send anything at all, be glad you got the template, if it does fuck - is it in 50 shades of grey?

Digismacker said...

#94 - LMAO

Anonymous said...

My favorite stores are TLP, Scrapflower and OSD (hit or miss). They're the ones that seem to match my style. I don't shop based on what's cool to everyone else.

Anonymous said...

DST is down-hmmmmmm

Anonymous said...

its working for me

Anonymous said...

88-I'm not sure you are right. I've been contacted by several designers to NOT post anything at DST. Unfortunately, I think DST shot themselves in the foot. Several people have stated on the retract thread that they are gone anyhow. It does make you feel like the rug will be pulled out from under you at any moment.

Anonymous said...

I know I won't buy advertising at DST you never know when they will close the site. Too unstable.

Anonymous said...

100-That.

Anonymous said...

one person in the forum made a good point, they asked if DST stirred the hornets nest so they could get the forum members to brainstorm for them... interesting observation at the very least!

Anonymous said...

99- I noticed that too. Why go onto a site to say you are still leaving a site? Just shut up and go.

Anonymous said...

I doubt they did that on purpose to get the brainstorm going. Honestly, it would be more stupid than doing that as a real mistake. I think they really thought they had a viable answer but had no clue that the community might work and feel differently than other communities they have worked with in the past. Stupid action? possible. But they retracted fast enough. Maybe they learned quickly that you don't mess with a bunch of women like that. And it did lead to a brainstorm (not sure that was their intention) and I was even surprised by some of the creative ideas members mentioned.

Anonymous said...

Why go onto a site to say you are still leaving a site? Just shut up and go.
-------

Yep, I dislike flouncers intensely.

Anonymous said...

#93 Why would you complain that she gave you a template? She didn't have to send a rejection notice with a kind gesture. Doesn't she send coupons in her newsletter anyways? Sounds like someone got their feelings hurt for not being accepted on the team! I would be thankful for getting the template and go about my day!

Anonymous said...

I agree with you and seeing this I am happy she didn't take you. Too bad for you !

Top tier means what....higher profile or higher profits? If you are talking higher earners then you have it all wrong.....sorry!
I don't sell at any of the stores listed here, and I know I am in the top 5% of digi earners.
Customers don't care who wins the school minded popularity contests....they just want good quality digi products.

Anonymous said...

Good point. It would be interesting to compare the "top tier/profit" to the "top tier/profile" (and any other "top tier" definition). It would not change my mind as to where I will shop, but I would be curious.

#53 Hello there..I'm also new here too and I'm not here to bitch.
I read a bitchy post about DST on a designers facebook status and clicked to see what it's all about out of curiosity.I was always curious about digi scrap world and what's going on behind the scenes but I couldn't find any answers anywhere until someone on the DST forum mentioned digismack and voila here I am.So don't pay attention to the sarcasm here.I'm guessing most commenters are either CT Members, store owners, designers and generally people from digiland that know each other.I'm a customer and a good one and I'll try to help you out as much as I can.
Although I spend hours browsing stores, facebook pages and reading through newsletters I never heard of DST before.I'm mentioning this just to show that it's not that big a deal as many people here think it is.I'm guessing at least not to customers. If I don't know DST then who does?I know most designers from the day they started designing and can remember most of their moves from store to store.Yes I once registered to DST but I never visited again.Anyway..just giving my opinion about a site that's considered huge.
A little about me.At some point a few years ago I registered to hundreds of sites when I first discovered digital scrapbooking so I could download as many freebies as possible. Then I got addicted to the "good stuff" which is digi stuff you buy.I'm an addicted digi scrapbook customer for the past 4 years.I've spent thousands of dollars on digi supplies,I have 1.5TB purchased digi scrapbook supplies. What can I say I'm a sucker for sales.I can't resist and I'll tell you from my personal experience and style which designers I think are top and which stores I find Top Tier or whatever they're calling them.

----

Your definition of 100% quality and mine must differ.

Anonymous said...

I never heard of DST before.I'm mentioning this just to show that it's not that big a deal as many people here think it is.I'm guessing at least not to customers. If I don't know DST then who does?I know most designers from the day they started designing and can remember most of their moves from store to store.Yes I once registered to DST
-----

You've never heard of it before but you once registered there.

I do love it though, that just because you've never heard of it before, it means that no one else has either.

And if you know most designers from the day they started, then you would definitely have heard of DST because that's where most of them used to hang and were a lot of them started out.

You're a real peach.

I don't get why people keep putting TLP as top tier when they get so few page views. They can't be that popular. Domain thelilypad.com
Daily Pageview 77

My blog gets more page views than that!

Anonymous said...

Blogs always get more page views because of the bots.

And clearly TLP are that popular if people keep listing it.

Anonymous said...

My bad wrong domain, forgot the hyphen.

Anonymous said...

#116 Yes I am peachy.Thank you. What?Did I leave you out of my favorite lists?
Just to make things clear:I registered to hundreds of sites when I first discovered digital scrapbooking so I can't remember them all. When I visited DST a few days ago with all the drama going on it was a new site for me and I was surprised when I realised how "huge" it is.When I tried to register It appeared I already had done that a few years ago.I personally think it's not that "huge" for customers and that's my personal opinion. There are other ways to be informed about digiland then DST you know.I receive most newsletters from stores and designers and follow most of the designers on facebook.I log in to most of the stores to view the new products,I follow 40-50 blogs and I've been doing this daily for the past 4 years. So yes I admit it was a surprise to realise I wasn't familiar with DST.I prefer browsing my favorite stores galleries where my favorite designers sell their stuff.I go to the source right away.

Anonymous said...

Did I leave you out of my favorite lists?
---------

What a moronic statement. It has no relevance to anything. I'm not even a designer. Surprise!

I don't give a rats about DST either, just pointing your inconsistencies.

Anonymous said...

#117 I see The Lily Pad has 232 daily views not 77

http://valeur-du-site.com/value/www.the-lilypad.com

Anonymous said...

#121 so what's your problem?
They're not inconsistencies.I'm just giving a perosonal opinion and my experience as a shopper.I'm tired of reading about CT members opinions and designer opinions. The customer is the one that matters and I don't see their opinions anywhere.I keep reading about how "huge" DST is and some other stuff that I'm pointing out are irrelevant to most shoppers.Again this is my personal opinion. You don't have to get so touchy about it.

Anonymous said...

when you accuse me of being "left out of your favorite's list" you are making it about me. Why did you ask that question? Yeah, I get touchy when I see idiotic statements.

Anonymous said...

#114 Did I mention I'm addicted to digi shopping, that I spent and keep spending thousands of dollars on digi products and that I have 1.5TB digi files?
Don't forget these are my favorite designers.I've bought products from 100-120 other designers but they are not top notch for me.

Anonymous said...

Do you actually scrap with those products? With all the blog following, newsletters, logging into stores on a daily basis, where do you find the time?

Anonymous said...

#124 well you started it LOL and you seemed kind of offended so I started guessing..I'm not making it about you.You striked at me first so I had to hit back.:)
But lets get serious,I just wanted to write my opinion as a shopper, nothing else.I'm guessing lots of designers log in to read the comments so it's not bad for them to hear a customer's opinion.
By the way I love the facebook game Leave a comment and I'll pick 1,2,3 winners later tonight. That's a great way to sell your product. Also a great layout does wonders to a kit.I've bought so many kits just because of a great layout.Kuddos to the great Ct members out there.

Anonymous said...

#126 Yes I scrap but not daily.I've done a few speedscraps.
I usually sit down and finish a theme album in 1-2 days straight with 20-30 pages.
I love the project life idea,I've bought tons of journal cards and I have the photos but I haven't started yet.
I like the idea of having the products for whenever I need them.

Anonymous said...

#126 I'm also single with no kids and my job is on the internet at home so I have the time.:)

Anonymous said...

I wish I had a job on the internet.

Anonymous said...

#124 I'll bet you are a designer...otherwise, why so defensive? So sorry you didn't make the op's favorites list. You shouldn't take it to heart though. I'm sure someone somewhere likes your stuff!

Anonymous said...

...andi KNOW you said you weren't a designer. I just don't believe you for a second.

Anonymous said...

#131 - whatever. I don't believe you have a brain, so even if you say you do, I won't believe you.

Anonymous said...

So sorry you didn't make the op's favorites list. You shouldn't take it to heart though.
------

I didn't even address her favorite's list, so what's there to take to heart? Oh, nothing. I was talking about her and DST, how that got to be about favorites is beyond me.

Anonymous said...

#93 Cudos to Jady Day for having the good sense to pass you up. My guess is your talent is only second to your graciousness....

Anonymous said...

#133 I guess you told me.

(what are you?...12?)

Oh, and your defensiveness is STILL obvious. I am sure someone somewhere Iikes your designs.

Anonymous said...

Jady Day has the worst customer service so I'm shocked she even returned your email.

Anonymous said...

#120- You don't have to defend your scrapping to anyone here. I agree with you on some of your picks in post #112. I have no clue who some of those designers are but the ones I do know I also buy from.

Anonymous said...

#114- There are alot of designers out there than what is on her list. So I would say there are alot of people she doesn't buy from. Are you upset because your shop isn't listed there?

Anonymous said...

(what are you?...12?)

Oh, and your defensiveness is STILL obvious. I am sure someone somewhere Iikes your designs.
------

Yes! No, I lie, I'm 8, so too young to be a designer. See, I told I wasn't one.

When you resort to calling me a child, you've lost your argument. Now I need to ask - why are you so determined to think I'm defensive? Seems defensive to me.

Anonymous said...

Are you upset because your shop isn't listed there?
----

Is that the best you can come up with?

I worry about you, I really do.

Anonymous said...

#133 I guess you told me.
----------

I sure did, didn't I? Hurrah for me, hip hip hurrah.

Anonymous said...

#141- I guess you need a life then if your worried about a post.

#141- I guess you need a life then if your worried about a post.

I do? Can I have yours then? It seems to be so full of ... oh, never mind, you are on a smack blog ... I guess you need a life too, huh?

Anonymous said...

Clearly the new troll has more supplies and a better life than all of us, so I guess she must be right about everything.

Anonymous said...

The troll is single, has a job on the internet, and spends thousands on digi scrap supplies... That about says it all to me.

Anonymous said...

Whatever. Her list is full of really great designers, but obviously, just a spit in the bucket of what great designers are out there. If she wishes to spend thousands on digital supplies, then that is a list of lucky designers. She has a hook in her lip that you can see a mile away. Reel her in!! If your name is not on the list now, just give her time. She is shopping her way through the entire digital community. Shop till you drop, girl.

Anonymous said...

WOW sounds like alot of jealous housewives that just posted.

Anonymous said...

148 - Yes.

Anonymous said...

So not to change the subject.. but what are the good CU shops these days? I've been away for a while and want to know what's changed in the last year or so and what's new. Any suggestions?

Anonymous said...

150- SugarHill

Anonymous said...

151-I don't think there are many CU shops anymore. That is probably why a lot of the kits "look alike." Everybody buys the bones from the same shop.

Anonymous said...

How many drinks was it again when someone plays the jealousy card?

Anonymous said...

I'll drink to that!

Anonymous said...

WOW sounds like alot of jealous housewives that just posted.

Does it? Maybe the just have better things to do with their money, ever think of that?

Anonymous said...

How many drinks was it again when someone plays the jealousy card?

One, because it comes up too often to be any more than that.

New troll?Hahaha ladies you're funny!!
#147:I've been shopping my way through the digital community for 4 years now so don't mistake me for easy bait.I just love digi products.I prefer spending my money on digi supplies than on expensive makeup or clothes. The only thing I can't resist is a good sale.I'll always buy a few things.Epsecially if it's a retirement sale.

#150 you can find a few good cu products at Digital Crea

On another note- What is happening with DST and the memberships now?

Anonymous said...

#157- If your new to this blog then I would back away quickly.

Anonymous said...

#158 - go to DST and find out. There's a big announcement. Here, I'll make it easy

http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/showthread.php?t=308514

Anonymous said...

I think they are taking back what they said they were changing ... after the crazy amounts of negative feedback!

Anonymous said...

By the way I love the facebook game Leave a comment and I'll pick 1,2,3 winners later tonight. That's a great way to sell your product.

^^
This is actually very clearly in violation of Facebook's rules. You can post a coupon code (for everyone) but not a 'I'll pick a few' as that is a contest and is required to be done through an app. Doing this puts the designer at risk of losing the entire business facebook page (it has happened before).

Anonymous said...

#155- She is single and has no kids. Does it bother you that much what she does with her money?
--

Doesn't bother me in the last, why ask me? I was just pointing out that it's not necessarily jealous housewives and that's all I said on the subject.

http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Mary_Marvel

but then again, this is SSD so it's not like I am surprised.

Anonymous said...

#164 yeah, that is pretty blatant. But you're right, I'm not surprised, either. Wouldn't it be nice to be so invincible! Doubtful many other designers could do it without being ripped apart here, though.

Anonymous said...

SSD gets ripped apart on here regularly, so what's your point #165?

Anonymous said...

#164 - did you report it to Marvel?

Anonymous said...

My dream job would be the contact person for Marvel who would handle important complaints such as this...what a fulfilling position that would be...

Anonymous said...

#168 - whatever. Marvel takes infringement of their product very seriously. It's important to them, even if it's not important to you.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone think One Little Bird is about to announce a move to The Lilypad? I *think* she said on last week's Digi Show that she had an announcement for this coming week plus her guest spot at TLP is now going into its third month with no new release at Oscraps. Thoughts?

Anonymous said...

Do your research - it didn't take me long to find that that image is indeed in public domain.

Only the golden age version of Mary Marvel (as depicted in the comics that fell into public domain) is public domain. Non-public domain Golden Age appearances are under copyright of DC Comics, which owns the version of the character based on those comics and all subsequent versions published under DC comics banner such as her white costume which first appeared in the Power of Shazam! #28 .

Anonymous said...

Link for the above - http://pdsh.wikia.com/wiki/Mary_Marvel

Anonymous said...

Marvel is owned by Disney and they take Copyright very very seriously. But I don't think that they'd really care enough about a 2 bit designer who probably makes nothing but a couple of hundred off of an infringement like that.

Anonymous said...

Yet, they can come down by surprise at any time, if they think it can somehow set a little example. I would not want to be the one receiving such a surprise! Maybe one employee is thinking of scrapbooking and could find it by accident or by googling. You never know. Better safe than sorry. Others have done kits inspired by... and did a great job.

Anonymous said...

I actually know of a CT member on a few SSD teams who works for Disney. I have to send her a message on FB and see if her employer would be interested in seeing this kit.

Anonymous said...

Disney doesn't care. I reported a couple of women who have been selling Disney kits for years on Ebay. They just right click the graphics on the net and use them as their own. I also reported the women to Ebay. No response from either and those women have been on their a long, long time. So don't waste your time reporting cause that's just what it is - a waste of time.

Anonymous said...

Disney does not care...period. However, the figure in question is not applicable anyway so it's a moot point. Might wanna check your facts (can you imagine...checking to make sure something is actually true before posting it?) before you go another witch hunt; it might save you some time that you could maybe use to hone your own designing skills...

Anonymous said...

The kit in question is sure to be a big seller. I'm sure the designer is thankful to the few who have brought it to potential buyers' attention! You ladies in your quest to nail someone actually probably help them with sales. What blessings you are!

Anonymous said...

..albeit, blessings in disguise...heavy disguise.

Anonymous said...

@#175..you do that by golly. I'll bet this employee of Disney is so glad you know her place of employment so you can bug the shit out of her with your trivial MISinformation. Get a grip and at least talk TRUE smack, you little ray of sunshine, you.

Anonymous said...

#164 - I agree that it is blatant copyright infringement. Funny how things change. A while back designers got TORN APART for their kits that were way less than this. But now, everyone just turns their heads.

It comes down the the store owner. If they want a reputation where they allow dishonesty to make a buck.... I will now not shop there. That store reputation is now ruined for me. I feel that the buck should stop with the store owner. Ultimately it is their responsibility and if she does not care, that says a lot about their integrity.

Anonymous said...

Haha-omg. 181 isn't gonna shop there anymore-BOO HOO-over one kit that it appears as if you are all wrong and that the copyright has expired, looks like after my own digging as long as Mary Marvel isn't wearing a white dress then its public domain.
Go ahead 181-find me one store in all of digi that doesn't have some sort of copyright infringement even if it is on the edge or precieved. I would think you would have no where to shop-then again I doubt you shop SSD much anyway, you are probably just one who likes to bitch about SSD-just like all the other haters. Before anyone quotes me and calls me names-I'll do it for you.
Yep, I'm an opinionated bitch who wakes up awesome every morning.
I just got off my high horse to scrap a few pages.
I drop my LO's off in open galleries without participating in the community on any real level.
I have close internet friends whom are scrapbook designers (so call me an ass kisser, cause that is always fun)
I could go on-but I won't. I'm sure you will all think of a few more for me!

Anonymous said...

#182- Let me guess you're a SSD groupie or better yet a designer there? With your awesome attitude you sound JUST like a few SSD designers I know. Do you wake up every morning and go check the forum before your coffee too?

Anonymous said...

#181- Of course they turn their heads. It's SSD after all.

Anonymous said...

UGH Traci must have called in her crew to defend her.

Anonymous said...

Did DST ever resolved the new membership rules? I'm wondering if its still OK to post there.

Anonymous said...

Sad how people are willing to sell their integrity for a few bucks. If I remember correctly, a while back a few designers that did not sell at such "caliber" stores as SSD were TORN apart for selling inspired kits that were MUCH MUCH less obvious as this because they took someone else idea and designed around it. Even if it is public domain... what happened to all those "holier than thou" people on here that gripe about not being original.

Forget the whole fact that it may or may not infringe on copyright..... it is not an original idea in the slightest. She TOOK someone else drawing and changed the colors. That take no talent at all. Just a dishonest person who likes to claim others ideas as her own.

Anonymous said...

Im #186 I meant resolve. Stupid phone.

Anonymous said...

182: I sincerely tried to get through that incoherent babble, but your improper usage of "whom" threw me right off the edge.

Trying to sound smarter than you are = FAIL.

Anonymous said...

#187- Did she change the dress color from white to match the kit? The artwork with the white dress is still copyrighted. If she didn't change it or use that image then she didn't violate anything.

Anonymous said...

#189- The part about everyone being SSD haters made me stop reading that post. That clued me in right there that it was someone who hangs there and would have an attitude problem.

Anonymous said...

I am not 164 but I am glad to know that the pre-1970's Mary Marvel is in the public domain, as I had concerns about copyright infringement as well. Glad to know there is no trouble there.

Anonymous said...

I think about a year ago ScrapMatters was a site that was nearing top tier but then designers and team members started mass exiting and the site fell apart right when Andrea flaked out and had her breakdown. It's a shame because the challenges and designers were quality above most sites.

Anonymous said...

#186 - Check the link:
http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/showthread.php?p=3241416
It should be pretty obvious. And people are still posting.

Anonymous said...

Having seen people get their reputation destroyed for tribute kits that don't have exact images in them, it doesn't actually matter to me if that version of Mary Marvel is in the public domain or not. It still a total lack of design integrity to put it in a kit you 'designed' when all you did was copy it. I expect that from the ebay sellers but I definitely expect more from SSD.

Anonymous said...

192. Only certain Mary Marvel etc is in the Public Domain. One needs to know what issues still have copyright. Search makes it easy to find out

Anonymous said...

#195 Get off your "design integrity" high horse. You, my dear, are a liar. It's obvious you have a h....on for the designer. This has nothing to do with reputation..oh, wait, yeah it does..you're trying to ruin Traci Reed's..which, of course, ain't ever gonna happen but you keep on tryin'! After all, you obviously need something to do!!!!

Anonymous said...

I agree that it is blatant copyright infringement. Funny how things change. A while back designers got TORN APART for their kits that were way less than this. But now, everyone just turns their heads.
-----

Oh they did not and they do not. Stop being dramatic.

Anonymous said...

#197- There was more than one person talking about that kit having a possible copyright violation. I have seen it happen with more than just Traci Reed being called out on that kind of stuff.

Anonymous said...

Did DST ever resolved the new membership rules? I'm wondering if its still OK to post there.
-----

Yes, for the tenth time. Either go to DST or check previous comments, because this has already been answered more than once.
